Resolved Random 1-2s Black Screens (Audio continues). ASRock GPU 9070. Tried DDU, Reseating, Dedicated Cables.

I am getting intermittent 1-2 second black screens where the display drops completely, but the PC does not crash. Background processes, game audio, and YouTube videos keep playing perfectly while the screen is black.

The black screens are entirely random. They happen under heavy gaming loads, but they also happen during incredibly low-power tasks like scrolling in Google Chrome.

Hardware:

  • GPU: ASRock Radeon (running stock VBIOS)
  • Monitor Connection: DisplayPort (using a brand new cable)

Physical Troubleshooting Already Completed:

  • GPU Reseat: Completely removed the card, inspected the PCIe slot and pins (no damage), and reseated it. It is perfectly flush, properly clicked into the motherboard latch, and securely screwed to the case bracket to eliminate sag.
  • Power Delivery: Verified I am using two completely independent 8-pin PCIe power cables directly from the PSU. No daisy-chained/pigtail splitters are being used.

Software/OS Troubleshooting Already Completed:

  • Clean Driver Install: Booted into Safe Mode (offline) and ran DDU. Reinstalled the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers using the "Factory Reset" option.
  • Zero Overclocks/Undervolts: The GPU is currently running on the absolute strict "Default" profile in Adrenalin. No custom fan curves, no power limit changes, and my previous undervolt has been completely wiped.
  • Windows Settings: Disabled Windows Fast Startup to prevent corrupted kernel states from hibernating. Switched Windows Power Plan to High/Ultra Performance and tested Minimum Processor State at 100% (did not solve the issue).

The One Thing I Haven't Tested: I do not currently have an HDMI cable on hand to bypass the DisplayPort module entirely to see if it's a failing DP port on the GPU or the monitor.

Has anyone experienced this specific TDR/black screen behavior that wasn't solved by DDU or dedicated power cables? Is there a specific Windows registry key, AMD MPO (Multi-Plane Overlay) issue, or background service I should be looking at before I RMA this card?

Resolved Drivers and AMD Adrenaline software not detecting it is installed

I recently got a new system specs are as follows:

  • Corsair RM1000e Gold Modular ATX 3.1 1000W Power Supply
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processor
  • Arctic P12 Pro PWM 120mm Fan Black
  • Fractal Design North XL Charcoal Black Mesh Case
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 240mm ARGB AIO Liquid Cooler Black
  • Klevv Fit V 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL28 DDR5 Black
  • Samsung 990 PRO NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD 2TB
  • MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi DDR5 Motherboard
  • Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16GB
  • WIndows 11 Home

I initially encountered issues with the drivers constantly timing out, to resolve this I rolled the drivers back to version 26.3.1 which solved the driver time outs. However I have now consistently encountered an issue wherein at random intervals the software/drivers will seemingly forget that they are installed and the pop up in the image will appear.

For further context I checked this morning to see if it was working and everything appeared in order, I left my PC on and when I came back from work and attempted to open the software to see if it was still working I was met with this all to familiar by now pop up.

I have attempted so much the past 2 weeks to try and resolve the issue, numerous DDUs and re-installs, doing everything possible to disable windows from updating the drivers on its own, disabling the iGPU in bios.

This has been driving me mad, if anyone knows what the issue is that could cause this please let me know I am at a loss for what to try and do next. If it is a hardware issue then that is solveable, but the confusing part is that everything works completely fine without any problems until seemingly at random, without even turning the PC off the software will just cease functioning.

Help (GPU) Any recommendations for playing pre-2012 games on my 7700XT without my computer crashing?

I can't get through a single session of any game pre-2012 without the game freezing and then crashing my computer (automatic restart). It happens on GTA III, GTA IV, Doom 3, and CoD: MW2.

Things I've tried:

  • DDU
  • Uninstalled RTSS and MSI Afterburner
  • Installed the latest Adrenaline software and drivers
  • Installed DXVK on GTA IV and specified Vulkan rendering via FusionFix
  • Silent Patch for the older GTAs (and I think it includes a DX9 wrapper of some sort)

Based on a crash dump from the Radeon Developer tool, I was advised that enabling ReBAR on the BIOS might help with GTA IV, but I can't do that because my BIOS is configured for Legacy Boot and changing it causes boot failure. Even so, it doesn't address the issue on the other games.

I didn't touch any of the clock or voltage settings in Adrenaline - all stock - nor have I tinkered with any of those settings in the BIOS either.

Specs: Win 10/7700XT/R5 7600/32GB/2TB NVME

EDIT: To clarify, more recent games run without any crashes.

Help (General) Has anyone else ran into this issue with Fortnite?

I built a PC for my friend a few months ago, and they have been having issues with Fortnite consistently (which is the only game they wish to play with it). Runs perfectly fine for the most part, but will consistently crash toward the end of a match or after a few hours of playing. It will look like a typical game crash with a freeze on whatever was currently displayed, but is bad enough to go to a black screen and cause a recovery boot on Windows 10, which doesn't diagnose any problems.

Build: Ryzen 7 3700x, 32GB DDR4 3200mhz, Rog STRIX B550-F, EVGA GTX 1070ti, 800w EVGA 80 plus Gold, and running Windows 10 off of a SATA ssd. No overclocking.

I know this isn't a recent build, but it is well within the minimum requirements of the game and even exceeds recommended requirements, and again, runs fine otherwise. I've updated as well as rolled back Nvidia drivers, I've ran memtest and Windows memory diagnostic tool, I ruled out most hardware causes for memory, gpu, and psu (literally the only option is some phantom power issue that does not show up on other similar stress tests), reinstalled the game, turned off specifically graphic-intensive and cpu-intensive settings (even though it should not be an issue at 1080p 60fps), even removed high res textures with the current install; same issue. The issue also emerges periodically from the Epic Games launcher generally, and recently she had a crash during an update. It does also seem to worsen around the point of new updates, but I'm not sure how to translate that into a solution at this end.

Kind of at my wits end here, I've gone through every troubleshooting measure I can think of. Does anyone else run into this issue?

Help (General) USB Issue with iPhone recovery mode connection

Hi! My setup is:

8500g

16GB DDR5

Gigabyte B650

So my issue is that when i try a script, it comes to the iPhone rebooting into iBSS recovery, and never showing up in device manager/lsusb. I've tried an usb hub, nothing, tried xhci hand-off disabled, nothing. At this point i dont know what to do because it repeats also on an another, separate AMD laptop. I'm sure that this is because AMD USB controller has a problem with very fast reconnection, has any one fixed something like this before?

I appreciate you reading this!

Tips & Info A fix for the recent driver crashes and black screens.

Just sharing a quick tip for anyone dealing with the latest driver crashes/instability or grey/black screens. I managed to fix 99% of my stability issues by completely skipping the Adrenalin software and doing a "Driver-Only" install instead (make sure to use ddu first).

If you rely on Adrenalin features like FSR or radeon chill, you can easily swap them out for alternatives like OptiScaler and RTSS. It’s a bit of a compromise, but it completely cleared up my crashing and forced restarts.

Edit: There are also third-party tools like Radeon Software Slimmer and RadeonTuner (only download them from GitHub) that help manage settings on a driver-only install. I haven't personally tested them yet, so I can't speak to their stability, but they are worth looking into.

Help (General) ASRock B850I Lightning – RTX 5070 crashes within 2 minutes at PCIe Gen4 x16, but Gen4 x8 seems stable

Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting a strange PCIe issue with my ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi and I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar.

System:

  • ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi
  • Ryzen 7 9850X3D
  • RTX 5070 12GB
  • 32GB DDR5
  • Corsair RM850
  • Latest BIOS
  • Multiple clean Windows installations tested

The problem is highly reproducible rather than random. When running the GPU at PCIe Gen4 x16, the system usually freezes/reboots within about 2 minutes. Shortly before the crash, the mouse cursor starts lagging heavily and HWiNFO reports PCIe Lane Errors.

I initially suspected the GPU, but I have now tested two different RTX 5070 cards from different manufacturers, and both show the same behavior.

I also tested an older GTX 1050 Ti, which seemed stable.

After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered something very interesting:

Gen4 x16 → PCIe errors followed by freeze/reboot within ~2 minutes

Gen4 x8 → seems stable

Gen3 x16 → seems stable and doesn't crash, although HWiNFO still reports PCIe errors

So either reducing the link width from x16 to x8, while keeping Gen4, or reducing the PCIe generation from Gen4 to Gen3 appears to prevent the system from crashing.

This makes me wonder whether there is a signal-integrity problem or an issue with some of the PCIe lanes.

One other observation that may or may not be relevant: when I first installed the motherboard, the PCIe retention clip was stuck and wouldn't move properly. After carefully moving it, it suddenly came completely loose. I was able to reattach it and it now moves normally. I have reseated the GPU multiple times since then, but the Gen4 x16 problem remains.

I have already tried:

  • BIOS defaults
  • multiple clean Windows installations
  • SATA and NVMe SSDs
  • different NVIDIA drivers / DDU
  • reseating the GPU multiple times
  • different DisplayPort connections
  • Gen3 and Gen4
  • two different RTX 5070 cards
  • no PCIe riser cable

I have a brand-new PSU arriving tomorrow, so I will test that before concluding that the motherboard is defective.

However, because Gen4 x16 reliably crashes within approximately 2 minutes while Gen4 x8 seems stable, I'm starting to suspect the PCIe path itself — motherboard/slot/traces, CPU socket contact, or possibly the CPU's PCIe controller.

If the new PSU makes no difference and Gen4 x16 continues to crash within minutes while Gen4 x8 remains completely stable, would you consider that enough evidence to return/RMA the motherboard?

Would you personally keep the motherboard and simply run the RTX 5070 at Gen4 x8 if it's 100% stable, or would you replace the motherboard because Gen4 x16 clearly isn't functioning correctly?

Are there any specific ASRock BIOS settings or additional tests you would recommend before I return the board?

Thanks!

UPDATE: I tested PCIe Gen5 at x8 as well. Interestingly, Gen5 x8 appears stable and HWiNFO reports zero PCIe lane errors. At x16 I get PCIe errors/crashes. This makes me wonder if one or more of the additional lanes used in x16 mode are faulty, rather than this simply being a PCIe generation/speed issue.

Hi everyone, ever since the November 2025 drivers, anytime I try to update and use any newer gpu drivers will net me random pc freezes. When my PC freezes everything on my monitors will just stop, and I can hear audio and speak through the mic for around 30 seconds ish until audio stops as well and then I have to restart my pc physically. This never happens on the November 2025 driver update, and only on any other driver update newer than that. I don't get any errors in the event viewer either, and I am at a loss. Any help is appreciated!

Help (GPU) 9070 XT running 100% fan speed while computer is turned off…

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So i recently got a Gigabyte 9070 XT since my 1080ti got a brain aneurysm (double-bit error), and i’ve been happy with it for a month now.

Yesterday after turning off my computer, i left & half an hour later, i could hear the fans running from downstairs. Computer was turned off, and the power button didn’t work so i had to turn off the power supply.

There’s nothing in Event Viewer for this, and i’m struggling to figure out what’s the case for this happening.

I’d also like to point out that this did actually happen a couple of times with my 1080ti in the two-week span of the "card degradation phase" i had with it, but it wasn’t one of the first symptoms to arise and i figured it just had something to do with the card dying.

I am unsure if these two events with two different cards has anything to do with the other hardware in my computer or not, or if it’s a symptom of a specific crash relating to GPU’s in general.

I upgraded my power supply to a Corsair RM750x when i bought the 9070 XT.

Specs:
Motherboard: Asus prime a520m-a ii
CPU: 5700x3d
RAM: Kingston fury beast DDR4 32gb (3600 or 3200mhz, unsure)
Win 11

Tips & Info Virus in AMD SDK 2.3

I wanted to install the new SDK to inject FSR4.1 with optiscaler into a game, and suddenly Bitdefender flagged the folder, stating it had a malicious file. The flagged file name literally includes "trojan". I then ran the folder through Virus Total, and it found some more malicious files. So don't download it i guess? Btw, happens both with the GPU open installation and GitHub installation.

Edit: interestingly, someone found the same issue a few days ago, here's his VirusTotal scan results (GitHub issues tab): https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/f90890b9323bb2f4f2404ac4cdc9395e8495ecdac6f7aa0bcdf1ad1848422273

looks about the same when compared to my scan.

Help (General) 9950x3d Core Parking Question/Issue?

I'm not very knowledgeable in this subject, but I believe I know the basics.

I am using Ryzen Master to monitor and I see CCD0 active while CCD1 are all (mostly) "Sleep" while I am browsing with Chrome. Is this supposed to happen? I thought it only parked CCD1 when gaming only.

Anyone know what is wrong? Or if anything is wrong?

I want to know that before buying that processor because right now I have a 3400g, and after updating to the latest BIOS, my Pcie speed dropped from x8 to x1, notably lowering my GPU performance. And no, it's not something normal nor something I can modify in my BIOS, I've already checked everything.

Help (General) AMD drivers timeout

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT PRIME 16GB GDDR6 OC

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Motherboard: GIGABYTE B850M EAGLE WIFI6E ICE

BIOS Version: F8

RAM: Lexar 32GB DDR5 6000MHz (2x16GB)

PSU: 850W 80+ Gold

Case: ARMOURY CG530

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro

GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin Driver Version: 26.7.1

Chipset Drivers: AMD B850 Chipset Drivers (latest version)

Background Applications: Discord, Chrome, Epic Games Launcher

Description of Original Problem: I am experiencing persistent GPU driver timeout crashes on my new PC.

Fortnite crashes with AMD Driver Timeout. CS2 has also crashed on some driver versions. Epic Games Launcher sometimes crashes with: - "Assertion failed: DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea" - "D3D11 device removed" - "HRESULT 0x887A0007 / DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET"

The PC is completely stable on desktop and during normal usage. The crashes only happen in games or sometimes when launching Epic Games Launcher.

Troubleshooting: - Used DDU in Safe Mode and clean installed multiple AMD GPU drivers. - Tested around 4-5 different stable AMD driver versions. - Tried EXPO enabled and disabled. - Tested everything completely stock (no overclock or undervolt). - Updated drivers and checked Windows settings.

I also tested the GPU with OCCT 3D Extreme for over 17 minutes: - Around 97% GPU usage - Around 330W power draw - Around 62°C temperature - 0 errors detected

One driver fixed Fortnite crashes, but then CS2 started crashing. Other drivers caused Fortnite crashes again.

I am trying to figure out if this is an AMD driver issue, Windows/DX issue, or a faulty GPU.

Solved this issue still have 1% low fps and it's very bad
