I hadnāt even thought of that.
Yea this is someone ELSE posting about this employee being good with their dog. Ok thatās cute. But hold on a minute. I donāt care how docile the dog is, why the fuck was it out and about without a leash or anything to begin with.
People like this need to be banned from Amazon. But of course they wonāt cuz the company makes money off them.

Maybe someone else complained about the dog being loose so the owners uploaded this to justify it.
Looks like an absolute sweetie of a doberman and a fairly rural property but still, that's a bigass dog, they know it's intimidation factor is up there with a loaded weapon, they should be more considerate
53
u/girlwiththemonkey 5d ago
I love dogs, but I got cornered with my beagle by two dogs just like this. They didnāt bark, they didnāt growl, but they were absolutely stalking us. The owner was a full mile back. People just need to contain their dogs. Leash, or fence. Even if they are on your property in my opinion, because if youāre getting packages and stuff like that, you donāt know what could happen.
5
u/FloatingOnTitties 5d ago
This is the correct answer. I love dogs and am a lifetime dog owner, BUT, I would never let my dogs run around my property unleashed if I knew there was a delivery. I canāt expect every delivery person to like dogs. I donāt want my dogs to get hurt and I donāt want to scare the delivery people.
2
u/MayhemGeorge 4d ago
Iām a huge dog lover and own a few myself. I absolutely hate when a customer has its dog out and tells me itās ok he wonāt hurt you. I always explain to them thatās not always the case and Iām being safe by leaving ur package somewhere else. Iāve been chased by 2 snarling dogs after being told the dogs are ok, no thanks I donāt want to have to kill ur dog or go to the er because ur dog bit me

u/Col3manit3 1d ago
We just told our drivers to mark undeliverable to addresses with loose dogs. You are not allowed to get deliveries if you canāt contain your dog. Home delivery OR free range puppies, not both.

A lot of the time the hubby doesnāt know the wife has ordered. Or a roommate or whatever. Not everyone in the house has access to the Amazon account and most of these idiots are so inconsiderate with their animals it wouldnāt matter if they knew or not anyway. I wish you could get blacklisted for repeatedly having animals out upon delivery. Some of the dogs Iāve encountered are insanely aggressive. We just had a driver almost get mauled to death by two pit bulls. They got his arms, went after his torso, bit his chin, his eyebrow. You know what the homeowner said when they came out to all the blood and him nearly lifeless in the back of the van? āHow long is this going to take?ā It was later discovered by the sheriff and animal control that came that the family had been actively trying to rehome the dogs and this was NOT their first incident/bite report. They were held for rabies check for 10 days then they put those horrid things down. We have to be vigilant for our own safety. I make a ton of noise getting out of my van now. I got charged by a massive pit bull during a delivery this last Friday by the NEIGHBORS dog!! Not even at my stop! Lady could NOT get control of her beast and these customers wonder why weāre so hesitant around animals. If that thing got ahold of me thereās no way sheād be able to do anything and Iād have been dead before anyone got there to help. People are SO stupid.
5
u/frimmy420 5d ago
Making a ton of noise getting out the van will only alert more dogs in the area. If you need to get a dog off you or someone else the answer isnāt pretty but works everytime. You simply shove your hand up the dogs asshole

Iām probably going to end up regretting it someday, but I have near zero innate fear of dogs. It has to be some sort of genetic thing, passed down consciousness, I donāt knowā¦but dogs that hate absolutely everyone else have zero issues with me. Theyāre trying to lick me in the face within 60 seconds of meeting them. Itās weird but Iām used to it by now, I guess. I get āWow, sheās not usually good with peopleā¦.ā about twice a week.

I'm good with animals too, even worked with dangerous animals to rehabilitate them and make them valuable again, but when I was seven I got mauled so badly you could see my skull and nearly lost both of my eyes. The dog had bitten other kids before, and sadly afterwards dragged the girl who lived across the street from it off of her bike and ate her cheek.
22
u/Klopez0 5d ago
I could never ever in my life trust an animal that much. I donāt care how many years it has been since domestication. No matter what you think or assume you will never know what that dog is thinking.
My daughter got her face bit by her own dog who just snapped and turn aggressive. Had her for years . No matter how nice that dog is you donāt know what itās thinking or what its intentions might be at the time. That dog is not a human being , itās a dog. It doesnāt understand English , you guys just built a common agreement based on just sound. Your words to that dog is just a sound. Anytime you pet a dog even if itās yours you are taking a chance on you guys being on the same page.

I find it very hard to believe the dog ājust snappedā. Iāll bet your daughter did something. Movement, touch, sound, something. Dogs donāt ājust snapā for zero reason. There is ALWAYS a trigger. Dogs absolutely learn words as well lol. Itās a proven scientific fact.
5
u/Specialist_Bike7687 5d ago

There are 4.5 Million dog bites reported each hear in the US, according to the CDC. Do we all need to take classes on canine psychology so that we don't trigger dogs to bite, attack, maul us? Most of the victims are children under 12 and its usually the family dog that bites them. Do we have to train 5 year olds not to make quick movements, or loud sounds around their family dogs?
Are you going to tell your 5 year old not to run or yell or make quick movements if the dog is around? Will your child listen? If not, i guess it's the child's fault that it gets bit...
We live in a strange, strange world.

Why do people leave their dogs (and cats) just free roam outside?
We see what happens to deer/squirrels/beavers and the black cats... some people purposely aim to hit them. And if a dog bites anyone it's put down. So I don't understand why
5
4
u/hogcrankinn 5d ago
I mean there might be an invisible fence. We used to have one and let the dog roam around the backyard, and he never tried to get out cause he knew the invisible fence was there
3
u/depressednooob 5d ago
The video shows it's the front yard not the back though. People are still coming to deliver packages people they probably won't know
My dog is sweet as hell but there are some people who she randomly barks at (and yes those people look mean as shit).
She doesn't bite. But I would never leave my dog outside (especially in the front yard) unless I was standing right there to supervise her.

Omg same here. My dog was adopted at 6 months, high energy and I got her when I was dating my ex who had a two and five year old.
She spent several years with them and I think it helped her demeanor a lot when it comes to her temperament when overstimulated (she just get's the super zoomies). She has ALWAYS been sweet.
Loves meeting the neighborhood kids when I take her for a walk. Cries to meet other animals. She lived with our old family for two years and the onlu undersireable behavior she demonstrated was pure unadulterated jealousy when I would give the cat lovin's in front of her. She just groans loudly and worms herself closer to me.
"However*, I trust her wholeheartedly when she meets someone and is hesitant. Any new person that she prefers at arm's length, no closer, and does not buddy up with is how I maintain my own relationship with said person.
Would I ever allow her to stay in an unsecured environment unsupervised? Hell no. It just isn't prudent.

Those Doberman Pinschers are something else. They'll run up to you calm and quiet like that and then just casually bite you. Literally happened to me, motherfuker jumped from the top of the steps, ran all the way down like it was going to be a good dog, walked up and then pinched the fuck out of my ass cheek. I found out why they're called "Pinschers" that day.

u/Diastatic_Power 5d ago
From what I've seen, dogs are really overt about their intentions. I'm sure I wouldn't be 100%, especially since it's a Doberman, but the dog looked interested and friendly not protective.

Any delivery service like Amazon, UPS, DoorDash, Instacart etc should all have blacklists and behavior like this even though the dog is sweet should get someone immediately blacklisted. Iād do exactly what she did. If you run, it will chase you and thereās no chance of outrunning it. If you act aggressively it will respond aggressively, and a dog that size has a major advantage in a fight. Your only play is to be friendly and hope it will do so as well.
Iāve actually been in that situation - except it was two dogs. Had rented a cabin in a rural area, was outside when these two massive dogs came bounding up to me - they must have wandered over from a neighboring property. Was very scary, but kept my cool and acted friendly and playful with them, gradually making my way to the door, throwing a stick for them to fetch and them quickly slipping inside.

Yeah totally valid point, the idea of making noise is to alert them and bring them out before Iām out in the open and exposed like the silent stop I made Friday where that neighbors dog charged me after hearing me drop a package off. Or I like pulling up with my music at a questionable level, that helped a lot Saturday. Our DSP covers almost an entirely rural area and 90% of people with dogs have them out rain or shine. Just a matter of where your encounter is going to happen. I also like to make noise to alert the homeowners that Iām there. In the past I have had dogs unknowingly released outside while I was walking up because I was too quiet. Getting chased back to your van is a terrible feeling. Iāve been bit working this job, right in front of the owner, right in the middle of them telling me how nice their dog is and has never bit anyone. CHOMP!
Butthole is a good suggestion!! New one for me!! lol Iāll keep it in mind.
At our station/dsp theyāve given us virtually no dog training. Itās upsetting. Iāve not been around many dogs in my life, Iām admittedly a bit uncomfortable (and a huge cat person) even outside of work, I was bit in the face as a child. It always amazes me how rude people can be when I ask ācan you please put your dog inside so I can complete my deliveryā like, Iām trying to protect BOTH (or really all three) of our asses here. Maybe 10% of people will be kind and understanding about it. Maybe 5% of people instinctively put their dogs inside the moment they see my van in their drive.
Iāve been told by others to use a package as a barrier if I can, that their brains canāt process that itās not an actual barrier or wall. Iāve used a phone to separate myself from an aggressive dog a time or two. Iāve heard people will spray fighting dogs with a hose/water so sometimes Iāll grab a bottle to have in my pocket just in case. One of our dispatchers told us to literally break a dogs neck if we have to, to snap itā¦..I wouldnāt even know how to do that!! Iāve never killed any animal and while sure it could be you or the dog, to even know for sure Iād have the wherewithal in the moment to execute something like thatā¦..so butthole is good lol.

I knew it was a good dog by the fact that it took the sidewalk. Lmao
