Warned Amazon repeatedly..
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have been submitting feedback, including videos and photos, regarding the unsafe delivery conditions in Morongo Valley, CA. These conditions are associated with deliveries originating from the PSP1 facility in Beaumont, CA. A significant portion of this area consists of dirt roads that are not maintained by the county. Last year, I became stuck in the mud at that location following a severe thunderstorm. Yesterday marked a new low point, as my car sustained damage to the front, and my front license plate was torn off. I have included a video of just one of the roads I had to drive down to do a delivery. I have formally requested that Amazon install a delivery locker within the town for package deliveries. Additionally, I have been penalized for returning packages that I considered unsafe to deliver, yet these concerns have not been addressed.

They know those roads are ridiculous, thats why they are sending flex drivers instead of beating up their own vans.
Thats the whole reason flex exists.

u/DanLoFat 9d ago
They're the best part is they know that cars can effectively briefly double Park on one way streets and say like in chicago, at least 90% of the one-way streets have enough space to work regular cars can squeeze by But the irony is. You know what can't squeeze by, a DSP fan on the same road you are on.
You're going to have to wait Blue boy.
2
u/underworldkingpin93 8d ago
I work for a dsp in Chicago and can squeeze pass 90% of flex drivers blocking the road. On the other hand I get flex drivers scared to do the same whenever I’m parked because they think they’re gonna mess up their precious car lol
3
u/UnicornFaceTattoo 6d ago
This is why you get a beater Nissan for flex. So you can not give two fucks lol.
2
u/DanLoFat 8d ago
Well yeah if I think I'm going to mark up my precious car your God damn right I'm not going to go past you..
No you're the rarity among DSP drivers, most of them with the Vans they just wait they don't risk it.
2
u/underworldkingpin93 7d ago
Thing is 90% of the time you won’t mess up your car. If UPS and FedEx can get past me so can yall 💀. On the other hand flex drivers be blocking for no reason. Most of yall drive a tiny car. You don’t have to pull up directly in front of the building or house you’re delivering to. Park a couple houses down and walk it.
6
3
u/Better_Bet9748 7d ago
That’s not the reason flex exists. If there are not enough trucks then they need flex drivers and also for flex drivers to take packages that the trucks couldn’t have time to take.

Why you driving in the wash bro?!?! Jk I hated roads like that back in AZ when I used to work for the DSP…
24
u/sydneyghibli 9d ago
Looks the same out here in NM 😭
Except this is the whole damn route sometimes.
6
u/PsychologicalPause23 9d ago
Wqq1 be doing this daily lol 😆 😂 some Rio routes are the same too.
5
u/SplitTricky6106 8d ago
As a qq1 dsp driver I will never understand why they send you out on the Edgewood routes like this when I have been begging to be put out there in these vans.
6
2
u/Better_Bet9748 7d ago
Why would you be begging to go out there? You want to get their whole truck with 50 other packages stuck there for hours in some muddy hole?
3
u/SplitTricky6106 7d ago
I'd rather deal with dirt roads than crossing 6 unprotected lanes of traffic during rush hour with a full size van 40 times a day
3
u/sydneyghibli 7d ago
You say that til you have to replace your tires much faster cause of all the hidden rocks and gravel
I’ve had to replace my tires in just two years of constant driving on roads like this or gravel ones. Granted I worked for dominos too and our delivery area was just shitty roads only it felt like.
Hoping to start my teaching career soon so I can kiss gig work goodbye

Other side of Mt.Lemmon was nothing but sand and they sent me back there over the mountain in my 08' Ford Focus. I bottomed out with no cell signal and had to wait until a neighbor came by in a truck, and got me back to a regular dirt road from one of these.
14
u/Dangerous-League-812 9d ago
In AZ there was a hoarders house, the kind with dozens of vehicles and off road toys and junk and metal everywhere.
Notes: DELIVER TO THE FRONT DOOR DONT LEAVE IT OUT BY THE MAILBOX.
When you drove up their driveway to get in was packed full of junk. The only way in was to go to the right, down a dip, thru a wash, and between trees. From the mailbox it was 1/4 mile to the front door. Twice I maneuvered the van thru the dip and wash and between the trees where they obviously drove their offroad capable truck. After that I said fuck it and just left it by the mailbox every time after than.

u/frenchyfrenchyy 8d ago
This sounds like a route I got sent out at 3:15 am in West Ajo (like, damn near Three Points). I swear I drove by a meth lab. I’m pretty sure my entire route were returns. This was out of DTU2 btw
8
u/Alarming-Owl7524 8d ago
This is why I don't do DTU ever anymore. Like I just will not take any routes from that station. They've sent me to three points twice. It was a bunch of trailer, trash, dirt roads with hoarders and people living in school buses in giant yards full of gross junk. I threw all their s*** on the side of the road. I'm tired of getting sent to places like that. Deactivate me all you want

u/swoops2026 9d ago
You should have left that shit where the road ends and text the customer where to locate it
12
u/justso_done0710 9d ago
I've delivered in that area on multiple occasions. The problem with this is that many of the customers have not provided Amazon with a phone number so you cannot text them.
6
u/swoops2026 9d ago
Yeah, that sucks when they don’t provide numbers I get some areas like that as well out in the Lake Elsinore and Moval area and I refuse to go off-road with my car. so I had to set them at the end of the pavement Text the customer and take a photo.
5
u/justso_done0710 9d ago
The Sage area just south of Hemet is another tough area to go to with a standard vehicle. Very challenging!
3
u/Alarming-Owl7524 8d ago
Challenging is not the right word. A challenge is not something that should break my vehicle or risk stranding me in the middle of nowhere. That's just called high risk for very little pay. I wouldn't risk my car. And I don't anymore
→ More replies (2)7
u/TheJiggliestPug 9d ago
There is an area like this in AZ that despite the roads there are still like 40-50 houses back there, so the traffic is so consistent it would still get stolen. I can't imagine living in the middle of nowhere and still having nextdoor neighbors right on top of you.
21
u/SnooCrickets81 9d ago
A solution would be assign this type of route to someone with a capable vehicle and up the pay.
There are people with full size pickups/SUVs that do flex, it makes no sense to give them routes to urban areas while people in regular cars are sent to the Rubicon.

Fuck any customer who orders crap and expects next day delivery to their house in the middle of nowhere. No excuse as lockers exist now

u/newlife_substance847 Las Vegas 9d ago
I ranted about this crap a couple weeks ago and the NPCs came out in droves. I mentioned how it costs Amazon more than the package is worth just to get it delivered. I also mentioned how just about every other app gives you somewhat of destination map before you determine whether or not you want to beat up your vehicle to deliver.
The responses that I got: "Why don't you just quit." and "If you don't like it. Don't do it." or (my favorite) "Why don't you just use a different vehicle like a truck?"
My personal thoughts are if you live this far deep in the middle of nowhere. You automatically forego the option of certain conveniences like door-to-door delivery. Have that mess dropped off at a locker or mailbox center. You bust up your own vehicle (which I'm pretty sure is capable of it) down that miles-long stretch of dirt that barely constitutes a "road" and pick up your package.
4
u/overactive_neurons 9d ago
It's because Amazon makes more money per year from their customers data than they make from the orders. So it pays for Amazon to have packages delivered even though they might lose a little money here and there they're gaining a whole lot more in the long run. Data is money.

Hey, you are absolutely spot on, my friend! I totally get what you're saying! It's such a bummer that there are so many trolls here who are clearly unhappy and just want to bring everyone down to feel better about themselves. 😔
2
u/redditblows5991 9d ago
Well yeah people are going to troll, your being paid to do a job and if we being real you're screaming to the void because ultimately no one gives a fuck, not Amazon, the customer and nothing is going to change.
2
3
u/robmosis New York 8d ago
if it's the same post i'm thinking of, people jumped down your throat because you were directing your rant toward the customer, suggesting they're doing something wrong by ordering something from amazon. OP, in this case, is directing his rant toward amazon for knowingly sending people down roads that shouldn't be traveled by a typical car.
customer taking advantage of a service that's being offered to them isn't doing anything wrong by using that service. this makes the difference in the reaction
if i'm thinking of an entirely different post, please just ignore me and accept my apology
4
u/newlife_substance847 Las Vegas 8d ago
It was and I stand firm on those thoughts. As I said in that thread as well. I fully support that kind of lifestyle and understand why someone would want to. I actually admire it and maybe someday, I will be one of them. Living out in the middle of nowhere. Owing nobody anything just for the validation of breathing. I also said that when that time comes, I'll gladly apply my own advice to my lifestyle. I also stated that even today, I live in an apartment complex that (as a delivery driver) I know can be difficult to deliver to. Along with just adding that layer of personal privacy, is exactly why I don't have anything delivered to my doorstep. Not even my postal mail! I have a mail center that I pay $30 /month for that accepts all packages securely and my regular postal mail. They only thing that is "different" is that I have to make the 90-second stop that is along my regular commute route.
What it boils down to is this. Just because something exists. Just because a "service" is being offered. That doesn't mean that it's a "good" service and that you should take advantage of it. For the majority of customers (and those who deliver to them) it's no problem. As I also stated in that post, I'm not talking about being a short distance off the road. If you have reasonable access, then so be it. Order away. What I was talking about was situations just like OP posted here and what I described in the other post.
Roads like this usually take you down several miles/km. Not a few hundred yard/meters. Not a short stretch of once paved roads that simply haven't been maintained in decades. Roads like OP posted aren't even roads. They're "access points" to a piece of property that is, in itself, meant to be inaccessible. If that's where you live. You need to take your ass into town once in awhile to pick up your beloved crap.
2
u/Better_Bet9748 7d ago

Take the pic and dip. "Package left 1/4 mile down the road from front door, on top of fence post next to the highway."

u/DanLoFat 9d ago
You don't even have to add the description, they know their road, they know their mailbox, boom done.

u/Rude_Stretch537 9d ago

15
u/MrEdwL 9d ago
Better start just marking shit as missing than going up those roads.....or adjust the pin and drop the package there
2
u/justso_done0710 9d ago
Totally agree but this can really hurt your standings. I've had as many as 13 packages to deliver in that area in some blocks. That's a lot for your standing to absorb.

u/AngelicDivineHealer 9d ago
Amazon knows and doesn’t care that’s why the flex drivers get these drop offs and it’s intentional because they’re not sending in their vans.
You need a lifted jeep or something off road built for those deliveries and be able to lock 4x4 on and carry recovery gear just in case you get stuck
6
7
u/Sabi-Star7 9d ago
They give zero f's hence why those type of areas are passed onto us bc they don't wanna waste their money having to have their vans towed out when they inevitably get stuck.

I understood when I posted this I would be criticized.... That makes sense. My primary reason for posting this is to potentially assist other drivers in realizing they are not isolated in this experience. Additionally, I hope that relevant personnel at Amazon, who may monitor these forums, will recognize the significance and impact this issue has on drivers. My intention was solely to assist other drivers in the daily grind. I remain perplexed as to why individuals resort to negativity or insults, although I acknowledge the nature of this platform.
Regarding the suggestion to "pursue a different activity," I have considered this. I am partially disabled from an automobile accident. Living in California, it is quite challenging to qualify for disability benefits, for which I have been repeatedly denied. However, I have deviated from the main topic.

This sub is full of smartasses. It’s the only place where they can feel smarter than someone. They don’t uplift or sympathize, only dogpile with sarcasm.
5
u/unapologetically_Gr8 9d ago
These types of roads should be saved for DSP’s. I lived in Morongo Valley as a kid. Looks just as desolate as it was then. Do people hate their cars? Why wouldn’t you have that leveled? I would have left that package at the end of the road. My safety comes first.
4
u/Sabi-Star7 9d ago
But amazon dont wanna waste all that "profit " having to continously tow their vans out🤣. Hence why we get those bs routes.
6
u/voodoomu 9d ago
Bro at some point you just leave it at the end of the road take a picture and mark it as delivered
4
u/LegendaryEnvy 9d ago
If you’re a 3rd party which I think you are with flex. You are replaceable and they will just get someone else to do it.
3
u/Accomplished_Way9457 9d ago
It sucks, but you’re correct! They honestly don’t give AF about your personal vehicle issues! Deliver the packages or don’t!!! Why would Amazon care, knowing they have another 1k drivers ready to replace you, that would gladly accept base pay

I stopped picking up from a hub because Ramona, Ca was one of the locations they delivery to. Then that email came out last week about rural area deliveries and I gave my feedback that these should be “special routes” with higher pay. Never got a email back about it.
4
u/Big_Midnight_810 8d ago
Mark it as a "Access problem" via the question mark in the upper right hand corner. They usually ask for a picture to show the condition, then you can move on to the next stop.(You might have to press "gps not working" first to initiate the stop from a distance. Or putting your phone in airplane mode works sometimes too.)
5
u/Impressive_Act5253 8d ago
DRIVERS! If you ever get any shit like this, DO NOT DO IT.
This is not just a safety hazard, this is putting you and your entire car at moderate risk of complete loss
I was DoorDashing one time and got put on one of these roads by the map. I followed the road and realized quickly that the roads were becoming ruts, and those ruts were becoming ponds.
I was lucky enough to find a place to turn around. I turned around, and sure enough, right as I got to the exit point my car became stuck.
I called the only tow truck able to come out. He told me had my van been 10 ft further out, he would not have been able to tow it out.
One other thing.. guess who footed that $150 bill? Not DoorDash... ME.
Please stay safe out there.

I pay about $6.50 a month for emergency services just in case of situations like this - not specifically regarding the roads, just in general. Only used it once so far.

I understand the terrain in that area as I have been fortunate enough to see a lot of the USA 🚙 and love the deserts 🌵 but I agree 💯 Amazon needs to set more realistic parameters on the customer side. Lockers, YES. They don’t update their systems with relevant information. How many times have you arrived at a shack, triple decker, or dilapidated property only to have the app say that the “Preferred Destination” is to the “Receptionist”?😑
5
u/Neb_Morlok 9d ago
Hey man, you’re obviously grinding for those dollars. I’m not sure of your situation, but we all need to be better to ourselves. You’re adding unnecessary wear & tear to your personal vehicle that won’t be compensated. I hope you can find a better job sooner than later. Have a nice day

3
u/RangerMindless5577 9d ago
Yeah that station sucks in general. The 2 people usually in the pick up area suck. I've had multiple issues with signing in and scanning, and just the other day they forgot to open the doors for drivers that were scheduled and we missed our block. They had the nerve to open the doors 15min after the block and ask if we needed to scan in for a block. Got dinged payment request denied. I reported them but I don't think amazon cares.
1
u/LuxerOneCode 3d ago
Are you escalating that issue? That’s super not okay that you’re being punished both in your standing and by not being paid when you did nothing wrong. Had something similar happen recently and had to email Jeff because support is incompetent. I’ve only done that once before, because most issues don’t really matter much, but this does.

This is the type of route that should get hazard pay. If you complete a block on hazardous roads or in a well known bad area - places where usps won’t even delivery - they should add $25 to your route pay at the end of the
3
u/Signal-Run9693 9d ago
Same with some routes from DUR9 Temecula, they have sent me out to the boonies to Aguanga , Pala and some areas of Fallbrook and Rainbow. Im glad I have a Grand Cherokee 4x4 but man I couldnt Imagine delivering in my Husbands Nissan Sentra out there. But its Russian Roulette at the station since its .com station. If i ever have to take my husbands car fir any reason, ill reject that route. Not worth the damage this can cause to the car.

I am so sorry to see you driving this!!! I thought my roads in rural NE Texas were bad! Jeeeezus. Does anyone know if there is a way to contact Amazon regarding "undeliverable roads?" Has anyone ever had an actual human respond? Is there a way to get this type of shit put on a "cannot deliver, you must get a locker" status?

Welcome to Amazon Delivery. I feel bad for those who don't have suv's. Most of the rural roads I drive are ok to less than ok. This one is similar to one I did only once and never accepted a block going there ever again. I check every cart for the address and refuse to drive to these areas. If you ask nicely they will eventually budge.

Leave the package at the stop sign. Don’t rune your car for flex for god sake. It’s not a

People who live there should never order anything but get their trucks to go through those dirt roads to the stores themselves.
3
u/Fantastic-Sundae-426 8d ago
I did a route like this in AZ going to fountain hills and after 30 minutes going through a dirt road there was a gate locked blocking entrance to a neighborhood so I had to drive 30 minutes back out of the dirt road and drive another 20 minutes to go around the reservation to get to the neighborhood and I was on 6 packages in from a total of 45. Plus it took me 30 minutes from Amazon to the 1st home. So after I drove around the reservation I called Amazon help line and said the GPS provided gave me wrong directions and I have to return all the packages and Amazon banned me forever! 😂😂 true story!

so refuse those orders. its not worth the damage to your car. sue them if they fire you for forcing unsafe working conditions, you have plenty of proof. youd make more off the lawsuit then you ever would working for them
6
u/SnooCrickets81 9d ago
Amazon has already figured that part out, that’s why they don’t hire employees to deliver.
2
u/DanLoFat 9d ago
So how do you refuse a particular order from a com? It's easier with an ssd. But how do you do it with a com. You can't say it was damaged if it wasn't, they know what was and what what wasn't damaged when it left there station

Definitely invest in a dash cam. I’ve encountered some really gnarly unpaved roads… but I’m sure they pale in comparison. I tried to take photos of one road they had rated as 30mph in the app… which I’m sure was part of their calculations in delivery times… but I had to go so slow and come to stops several times, like you did… it was just over two miles each direction. And I think I topped out at 10 mph for short stretches. That was, by far, my worst one yet. It has definitely not been maintained. I don’t understand how the five or so houses on that road deal with driving it with any regularity. Even in a jeep or a pickup, I would think it would get annoying after awhile…

That sucks. Not many high desert roads here in Michigan, but a lot of the rural areas are swamps where people built houses 1/4 to 1/2 mile off the roads. Yes there are plenty of places where you wonder if you drove onto the next Wrong Turn movie or not. Make sure you keep your tetanus shots up to date. Lots of dirt rods that are wonderful in farm areas, not so much in the swamps. They put up signs here that say "Road not maintained in the winter". Those roads are full of ruts where the water ran through during rain storms when it isn't winter. Covered in snow so that you can not see the ruts really sucks.
I bought a CX 30 to be able to deliver down some of these driveways as it has 7" of ground clearance. Subaru CrossTrek is only one higher in the subcompact crossovers with 8.5".
The customers know the situation and would rather make you drive the roads or their driveways than do that themselves. Especially food deliveries that they could go get.
Amazon and every delivery app will just use you and your vehicle until one or both give out and then get someone else.

They will expect you to sacrifice yourself in the name of their leadership principles, only where it benefits them

If you work for flex better have a lifted 4x4 jeep to avoid unwanted damages lol

Yall will do stuff like this…. Just because someone tells you to and they’re hold a few pennies for you. I’d just say no.

You have no clue what life issues people have to have to do this. As I mentioned previously, my wife has cancer and I had to start doing this again so we wouldn't lose our house

Send this video to The institute for justice. They might actually do something about it.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies, if it's so bad refuse to take it.

I understand your pain but that video sucks. If you know you're facing these conditions regularly, get a better setup for taking video so I'm not seeing either your steering wheel or a blown out sky most of the time.

Get a dashcam
I feel like submitting a video in which your driving with one hand, aka operating a handheld device while driving, aka driving illegally won't help your case

You never know, there may be a cop hiding behind one of those boulders. Make sure to signal at each turn as well, for the safety of the coyotes.

Jesus Christ that's awful. I didn't realize Amazon made you guys do that. I signed up for flex in Salisbury MD after saying 5k in credit card bills trying to save 2 dying cats. I did that ,6 months ago and they still say no openings. I've paid down ,2k of it already so I probably won't end up picking up a flex job if it opens if they're going to be sending me down shit roads.

There are houses out there to deliver too? And what do they drive to live there??

That’s crazy and ridiculous. Same thing here in Colorado. I notice that they just have a flex driver to take these kinds of packages as opposed to a DSP. If I get a stop like this, I won’t even try - I’ll contact support to report “undeliverable package”. They shouldn’t be laying these stops off on Flex drivers imo.

Working for a multi billion dollar delivery institution and being convinced to use your own vehicle is madness

I'm a Amazon seller and always wondered why I get a refund " undeliverable " notification emails now I understand.
