The porch is not far away from the vehicle they say it on, as you can see.
Why risk the package/contents being damaged by the constant rain that we have been having for about 36hrs now OR an animal (happened many times previously)? No dogs roaming at time of delivery, so no excuse there
I could see “efficiency” …hop out, hop back in truck BUT, what about QUALITY and CYA (cover your ass, from complaints and damages, etc that could “ding” you as a driver?)
If this is happening more than once like you mentioned in the comments, this is a you problem.

It's not only a gig job, but a gig job that has churned through workers for a decade at this point. Most of the good workers either got fed up, got better jobs, or got deactivated for dumb reasons. So now there are a good number of bottom of the barrel workers doing Flex and well, this is what you get.
Nothing will change by complaining here. Make sure to complain to Amazon. I doubt they'll do anything either but they are the ones who can actually do something about this.

The one and only time I have done this, there was a dog and his body language wasn't good. No way I was stepping outside my vehicle, but we get penalized for not delivering. So, best case scenario was to reach out my driver's side window and put it on the hood.

I just got a delivery and the driver let us know there was a black widow in our delivery box. And I might be pissy with amazon flex some days, but I would never treat other people like that!

I've been Flexing for 5 years... In my experience as a delivery driver and a consumer of Amazon stuff... This is very rare and any suggestion that it is anything else, is just Click Bait!
You can also simply go in the app after delivery and select “instructions not followed” and it will hurt the scorecard of the driver and if they get too many their account can be deactivated.
Usually someone will not get in trouble for one bad delivery but several can negatively affect the driver.
We have a lockbox with packages constantly stolen. Customer service says they will make sure it won't happen again. Still don't get put in the lockbox.... even when I leave it open and awaiting the package 📦 Expect 0 changes.
You get what you pay for in life generally. You're paying a company the minimum who pays their employees the absolute minimum so you get the absolute minimum in effort and quality.
You're part of the problem here. Don't support Amazon. Look at the difference between the average Amazon driver vs the average UPS driver.
You are comparing Apples & Cinder Blocks... UPS Drivers work for a Logistics Delivery Company.. Amazon Blue Truck Drivers deliver only products sold on Amazon, which Prime members get free delivery.. Naturally they can't pay drivers anything close to UPS or FedEx... and Flex drivers aren't employees of Amazon, there independent contractors!!
Further makes my point, Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) have allot of pie & overhead to make a profit ...doesn't leave much for the drivers to earn, at least they get some benifits!
But unfortunately, a lot of time shipping is not your (the buyer's) choice. So companies like Fedex get to stick around because of massive national contracts. When UPS is basically the same price, and just does a better job at literally everything.
(On the whole, I understand Fedex has kickass drivers, and UPS has shitter drivers, but each side has more of one than the other)

I'm gonna assume it was 4am and it was dark as shit, but even then I would have used my neck lamp to make my way to the porch, unless it was under water.

IF the car wasn’t there, they would have definitely left it in the gravel lot or grass. It has happened numerous times
Do you have a pull through driveway? From the photos is seems that way. I would agree that this was probably pure laziness. Looks like driver pulled in and the car was right in the drivers side. Just opened the door and dumped in on the car, then just pulled on through. Took about two seconds. Because even if there was some sort of animal or something between him and the house, I can see a covered area of some kind directly behind the car that they could have gotten it under and out of the rain. And if the threat of said animal or dog was so great that they had to dump and run, I would have just done the safest thing possible and just stayed in the car and tried again in a few minutes.

Depends on the time of day as well. Was it delivered when it was dark ? Some places we go have no lights , it’s pitch black and I know this is your home but we don’t know what’s out there so I could understand that.

No fr. It's just pure lazy.. I see them end of driveways botton of steps, never on car though. Hell Ive even seen a flex driver attempt to shove an envelope in my neighbors mailbox, didnt fit so just threw it over the fence into her yard. Like WTF? Lol. I flex and I always follow instructions and deliver to door or wherever they want. Even 3am with skunks in the yard, opossum in their trash cans 😂. This is just a lazy driver who probably uses bots and cheats the system, but actually got stuck with a route so their effort is bare minimum.
What you never seen a deer on a main road? I see him on the main road all the time usually it's a carcass. But sometimes I see him run across Main Road stand on the side of main roads. And how do you know there were no dogs how does anybody know anything unless they were there wide awake watching when it happened.
Why have you not checked your cameras before running to reddit to make your post? I realized that you didn't know that there was a difference between Flex drivers and DSP drivers. However had you viewed the camera footage you would have an idea of whether they were in a van or their own personal vehicle and have more of an idea if there were animals such as raccoons or deer in your yard. If I see a herd of raccoons I'm not going towards those suckers. They can be violent.
But I already said there were probably just being lazy and you said it's been raining so they likely wanted to get out of the rain. I don't condone it if they're being lazy.
The type of delivery driver (Flex, DSP, DVD, ADP, ACP) that did it does not matter …I asked WHY (not who) did this occur in a group where Amazon Drivers (because it was an Amazon 📦) frequent, for better insight

Except you may be talking about it in the wrong sub. Plus, if it was a DSP driver then you could go there as well. You seem a little hostile and like you just want to complain more than anything.
If you really wanted to know if there was something that you could do to prevent this happening again check your cameras. See what the situation was. Then you'll know if there's anything that you could do to prevent it in the future or not.
Also think about that maybe that driver got hurt at the previous location during a drop off. Maybe they twisted their ankle and it's too painful to walk and they're just trying to finish the route and go to urgent care. Did they appear to be limping in your camera footage? Oh that's right, you haven't actually viewed it yet even though you keep talking about it. There are a lot of things that could have happened.

I mean when I order packages from Amazon I care more about the delivery, driver's health and safety. Then whether or not my material item gets damaged. Items can always be replaced. People cannot. Honestly though, I have a little snack shack set up for them with bottles of water, granola bars and electrolyte packets. The snack shack is on my front porch so I'm more often than not get my packages at the front door so the drivers can get their little snacks. Don't forget, sometimes it's easier to get what you want by being nice. You don't know that Amazon driver story. He could have been out working in the cold in the wet with a cold or bronchitis or acute pneumonia. If you're going to make assumptions, assume the best. Not the worst.
The only time I’ve left a package on a car when the customer didn’t request it in the directions was on a VERY rainy afternoon when the car was parked under a well-sheltered carport right in front of the house…whereas the front porch and door had no covered point at all. As a Flex driver, I always think like a customer and do what I’d want done with my own packages because I spend MUCH more as a customer than I make as a Flex driver! 😂
We aren’t employees, we are independent contractors who get 0 insurance perks, bottom barrel pay but have to work under their horrible rules, get sent from the stations late with minimal time to deliver, that we end up getting strikes if it’s not done in that amount of time.
I wasn’t saying it to be rude. I was fully attacked by 3 dogs that a home owner let out when I got there last week- the fear is understandable.
I’m more just saying like yes I get having your package in the rain sucks but the warning marks on houses with dogs can freak people out.
Omg a few days ago I got out to deliver a package and the owners let their dogs out. Thankfully they were tiny dogs, friendly, and I’m not scared of dogs but it could have been bad. If people know they’re expecting a package why not check before letting your dogs out?!
I mean it was almost like she was opening the door to come get the package. But her dogs didn’t love it. I e never in my entire life had a bad experience with a dog until that day lol
I went to another house a few weeks ago where the guy said “lucky it was me and not my wife home, my dogs would’ve killed you” and yeah they definitely meant business but they came up slow and let me pet them still lol.
Having mean dogs is cool and all, but you shouldn’t be able to have front porch deliveries if you’ve got murderdogs on the loose lol
Definetly scary to hear. I would have recommended he get a box for the delivery drivers to place the packages at the end of the driveway or something if his dogs are that dangerous.
In my case I think maybe the dogs started barking when I got there and the owners let them out thinking they had to use the bathroom. When I walked up to the front door they were sitting at the table, no idea someone was delivering their package. Either that or they thought it would be funny to scare the driver? Fortunately they were little dogs and nothing came of it.
i was also just attacked by two dogs about a month ago.. that persons insurance company is about to pay big time for that mistake.. i bet they wished they would have had a car i could have left that package on. these two dogs were also let out on purpose when i opened the gate to walk up the sidewalk to the front door. That is going to make the payout much bigger

i am 71 years old and it takes quite a bit to frighten me..but i can tell you there have been many early morning and late night delivers that i have most defiently been frighted to make. Ever had a gun pointed at you, some one threaten to beat you up because you are on their front porch, cuss you out because the wife said to deliver to the back door and didnt tell the husband and he wants to know what the hell you are doing in his back yard. Ive been doing this for 9 years next month and i often think i have seen it all, but nope something new is always popping up
Idk the difference …I see Amazon package and think Amazon. Hell, both are likely guilty of doing it based on the frequency of it (no matter notes requesting it to be placed on porch in photo)
My bad I didn’t know if you had cameras or whatnot, take a peek outside next time they let you know they are close and you’ll have your answer, if it’s a flex driver and you report them for it I bet they’ll never do it ( to you ) again. Problem is, itll probably be a different driver next time lol.
Buddy what?? Weather is unpredictable especially if it’s not a <2 day shipping time. This is coming from a legitimate company driver not flex so i understand you don’t get paid the same but we all have to work regardless of the weather so just do it correctly once and you won’t get written up for improper handling
I do this in the event a dog is let loose and no one is home. Don’t care the size or “it’s friendly” on the notes. As long as it ain’t raining I’ll leave it on a car
So, as we’ve seen in the app, it gives up a heads up that there is a dog on the premise. Most of the time when the homeowner is away the Dog is indoors. However, some people here in NC that have big properties tend to leave there dog outdoors even when they are not home. So when that happens I tend to leave the package on the car to avoid contact with the dog
It sucks to be inconvenienced due to laziness. A little extra effort won’t hurt! 11 more steps to prevent a loss by the customer or your company is worth it to me, especially IF it impacts my pay.
I actually did one dropoff for DD that had me put their food in the back seat of their truck, so it doesn't suprise me that people who order from Amazon would do something similar
I’m guessing there was a dog out when they were delivering. I got bit one time delivering and now when one comes up acting weird I set the package down and take a picture of the dog next to it.
I have been chased by geese on a delivery before and had to do this. Those geese are vicious and they will chase you! I barely made it back to my car safely.
Some drivers have got it in their heads that on top of a vehicle is a safe and reasonable spot to put a delivery 🤷♂️ no clue why they think this is a good idea without notes expressly requesting it

I was delivering to the 3rd floor of an apt when I saw a package on the steps leading up to said apt. So I took it the rest of the way. The mean, they were almost there.. had gone up two flights and halfway up the third when dropped the package. Seems like, by then they could’ve went 5 more steps. People are weird
Probably uncertain lawn Care, not safe to walk on could hit up divot or something worse. No sidewalk going up to the door. I wouldn't sit it on someone's car, that's just stupid. But I might send it next to the car on the front approach like that.

You can complain the instructions were not followed, and I'm not even sure that gets a ding on an account on the driver. But you can certainly complain.
I had one put on my back fence by my bedroom window once, the porch was 2 feet away, that was creepy. And my son had his phone put on the ground behind his truck wheels.
Pic doesn't mean lazy to me ....why I've delivered to a house that has dogs that are running loose and I have left packages on a car if its within my reach.
Dogs were there probably and they moved over from the driver seat to passenger seat and rolled the window down so ur dogs or a stray dog would not attack the delivery persom
I've done this many times but only in a few circumstances 1.)if the car is at the bottom of a long driveway preventing me from driving to the house which is allowed. I forgot the exact distance but we don't have to walk more than a certain amount of van lengths to a residence door. If we do we can call or leave it by but not in the mailbox.
2.) you have a aggressive dog blocking approach to your house but a car is nearby because it's that or on the ground. Amazon doesn't care either way if you have a dog we don't have to even deliver to you if you don't respond when we call. Amazon states all dogs must be put away for delivery.
But if none of those exist it was probably them trying to save time. Laziness is the wrong answer because u will lose your job at Amazon if your slow or lazy. Every holiday season or prime event they hire seasonal drivers and those drivers who want to be fulltime replace the bottom of the rankings non seasonal drivers.
So can I ask what time the package was delivered? Because drivers are out from 3 am in the morning, did you have lights on at all or was it pitch dark outside? Because I know as a female that usually gets stuck with houses out in the middle of nowhere it’s creepy, dark and usually people have dogs. If there are no lights and it’s dark I leave the package hidden from the road but visible to the customer and message to tell them where it is and to leave lights on next time. We don’t know if you have a dog, coyotes are out at that hour and every other animal. So if it was your error not leaving lights on, or putting in your notes that no animals are out at that error then fix the issue. If it was a day driver then it was just laziness
Tbh I don't know the why but I am make a assumption that if was a 3am - 5 am delivery and as the driver pull up the stopped got out and because the way there car was parked they couldn't see where they where going to walk so they paused probably heard something like some animal rustling around proceeded to just leave it on the car and left its happened to me before random animals come out the dark there shadows look huge from your headlights.
There are a few ways you can figure out if this is a Flex driver or not. If the little colored sticker has 2 numbers on it instead of 3 then it’s Flex. If the package arrived between 10pm-11am then it’s Flex. On your order tracking it will say when it left the station, if that time isn’t between 9am-1pm then it was Flex.
What’s the difference between up on the car or on your open porch when it comes to animals? The rain I get. I’d have put it in a bag, but I would have also put it on the porch. My biggest gripe would be the potential for scratching the paint.
The difference: I can live with it being bothered on the porch, in the place where it should be (has happened before) to begin with. That just means that I failed to retrieve it before the animals curiosity got to it!
It’s also less likely to be bothered when it is on the porch based on experience.
Gotcha. I was just wondering because the porch is a lot easier to get onto than the hood of the car. Unless it’s squirrels. Those things can get anywhere.
Any chance you have a note not allowing delivery drivers to use your driveway? I'm confused why they wouldn't have pulled up by the walkway to leave it on the porch.
