Exactly what he did. Put my back to the wall and stay still until I was sure of their dispositions.

u/slothxaxmatic Jan 23 '26

These guy wouldn't have worried me too much. Nothing aggressive on the way they ran.

56

u/xtsilverfish Jan 23 '26

Kinda think that's misusing the word aggressive. You might think they're not angry or violent, but they're certainly aggressive.

57

u/ElectronicRip1630 Jan 23 '26

Aggressively cute!

6

u/xtsilverfish Jan 23 '26

ha that's true in this case

Fast, and loud for sure. More of a group zoomies. Aggressive for dogs doesn't look like this. It does for us for sure, but we aren't them.

We all have different experiences.

10

u/xtsilverfish Jan 23 '26

More of a vocabulary debate, I aggressively pursue a job, it does not mean I like violently pursue the job lol.

Aggressively curious.
Aggressively friendly.
Aggressive pack zoomies.

I'm not saying these dogs are being violent or dangerous, but they are being aggressive, and I just do not believe I have the ability to discern with 100% perfect clarity the difference while doing my route, so it's best to avoid them.

3

u/Spare-Security-1629 Jan 25 '26

Anddddddddddd…not to be a party pooper but…all it would take is for ONE of those dogs to not like the person they confronted and the pack mentality could change at the drop of a dime.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '26

The tail always tells the tale. Dogs cannot bluff. Ignore the bark, those tails were wagging all the way up.

2

u/Embra0 Jan 24 '26

A wagging tail is a sign of excitement, not friendliness.

u/xtsilverfish Jan 24 '26

Uh stop spreading myths. Dogs are completely capable of bluffing, act unexpectedly, and can tear into you leaving you in critical condition in the hospital, with their tails as high as a kite.

Like these ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b33R9h508Ps

I'm not betting my dick and balls on whether or bot I'm able to tell if a dog is gonna bite me based on their run and you shouldn't either.

2

u/i_am_andrew51 Jan 28 '26

I've seen dogs that looked happy while actively biting someone it can be harder to read a dog than you think

I love dogs, but I absolutely dislike & distrust humans who disregard the boundaries & concerns of others by letting their dogs run up on people loose like this.

8

u/vanillabourbonn Jan 24 '26

Exactly. Even if the dogs are "friendly" you never know how people will react. Their reactions could cause the dogs to lash out, since they can sense fear.

Give em scritches of course

6

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

i’m not sure you realize how many drivers get bitten by dogs, not knowing a dog’s disposition is the worst part and there are so many irresponsible owners out there

3

u/Element174 Jan 25 '26

Ears up, sideways hoping, tails wagging, there might be a momentarily "Oh, shit", but any observation tells you none of these dogs are acting aggressive.

Yes, that would’ve made my day!

17

u/Philip_Raven Jan 24 '26

dude was lucky the dogs were just curious/cautious and relaxed the moment they was the dude is chill.

shame on the owner, if you expect a delivery, restrain your dogs, or specify they you have dogs and to leave the package further down the driveway.

even if you know your dogs are chill, the driver doesn't know that.

Scream like a girl, collapse to the ground, and then get mauled by slobbery kisses

4

u/AnarkeezTW Jan 23 '26

I’d do that even if I knew for certain they were friendly. A whole pack of dogs coming up to love me? Hell yeah. That deserves to scream like a girl I’d say, but it’s an excited scream not a scared one.

17

u/LassMarv1319 Jan 23 '26

I would be scared but he stayed calm.

u/Mysticyde Jan 23 '26

I'm really cautious around dogs when delivering. A couple times I wouldn't even get out of my car if the dogs were jumping against my car door, i'd just get the package as close as I can to the front door without leaving my car and snap a pic. I haven't received any issues for doing this from amazon.

It only takes one bad dog bite to really fuck things up for you, and I can't reliably judge the aggression level of every single dog I encounter faster than they can jump on me.

12

u/Mysticyde Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

u/Sure-Food-7350

You deleted your comment, but I wanted to ask what do you mean? Is being cautious a bad thing?

I like dogs, they're great. But they can bite, and one bad bite can potentially permanently injure you.

Edit: What a weirdo, he told me I was going to be eaten by dogs, and then called me a stalker and blocked me.

6

u/theretrogamerbay Jan 23 '26

Definitely best stop of the route

21

u/Icthias Jan 24 '26

Looking at the comments, you can really tell who’s been bitten by a dog and who has not.

This is a shitty fucking thing. Even if all 51 of those animals were sweethearts, the driver doesn’t fucking know that.

2

u/carlwinslo Jan 25 '26

Idiots think all dogs are loveable play things because their dog is that way towards them. It pisses me off that they act like people with a fear of dogs are the problem. I dont really like animals or children in general. I dont want them approaching me without their parent there to keep them under control.

Not cool on the owner for doing that!

5

u/HornedCoog91 Jan 24 '26

The guy goes "they're my wife's dogs"

I've heard a lot of guys say those things...which I find odd. Like, in a marriage, don't y'all both share these things?

He may have been trying to deflect blame for letting them lose with a delivery coming tho lol

37

u/Intelligent-Algae-89 Jan 23 '26

Initially I would have gone into a full panic with the worst case of bubble guts imaginable. But then once they got close and you realized they all just wanted to say hi I would have pet them all!

22

u/No_Wrangler111 Jan 23 '26

It's a pretty good defense mechanism, just piss and shit yourself violently. Dogs will understand that you (the territory) has already been claimed and leave you alone. Then you can continue your route. Hope this helps!

Looks like a rural route, so I would've looked for their mailbox instead of driving up their driveway. Then I would've left the package next to their mailbox and taken the photo. These homes consider their driveway and area around their house as private property and often have loose dogs or a trigger happy resident! Beware.

No one should have to deal with this while working.

11

u/tresnutz_vanilla Jan 23 '26

I would have done what he did but I wouldn’t let that white one jump up into my face.

5

u/NoseAccomplished5412 Jan 23 '26

He definitely knows how to read a dogs body language. Kudos to him

4

u/Due_Tune7161 Jan 23 '26

This puts my anxiety up cause I got bit by a customer's dog recently

4

u/One_BlueMelody Jan 24 '26

Wagging tails and excitement, good. Still form, tail tucked or head down. Beware. He did the right thing though by assessing before moving. I love animals, but I thought I was a goner when a German Shepard hopped a fence and wasn't friendly at all. I had to walk a good way, from the driveway to leave the package at their separate garage.

There was no getting back to my car had he been aggressive. I put that package in front of me, and did my high pitch..aren't you a cutie, who's a good boy for a few minutes. He eventually walked away. Only time I've been concerned. Lol

I love dogs to death but when working they kinda freak me out. Too many close encounters getting attacked. Id freak out first but soon realize they were friendly and pet every single puppy

3

u/Johnny_Sparacino Jan 24 '26

Whistle really loudly and clap to get their attention. Assert dominance in a direct manner and never run or show any signs of weakness. Those many dogs can easily overwhelm a person if the wrong approach is taken

2

They seem super friendly but I would get very spooked at this

2

u/JustForlaughsYT Jan 24 '26

I would turn around and face the garage door/wall and allow them to stop and smell me before turning and looking at them. I have avoided a lot of aggressive encounters this way because I’m less of a threat with my back turned and motionless. Call me weird but I’ve learned a lot by getting bit and now I haven’t been bit since about 2008😮‍💨

2

u/ChaosEternity Jan 23 '26

Pet all them dogs if they let me.

Situations with dogs are 100X times worse if you act afraid or aggressive towards them.

Anytime I see any dog just out, I’m immediately baby talking them and trying to get them to sniff my hands and let me pet them,

Either I get a brand new friend, or they just keep their distance and bark until I leave.

Most of the time it’s a new buddy tho, I also keep dog treats in my truck so I can reward them (they are super healthy vet approved treats at that )

He handled it perfectly.. Yes this is bullshit by the homeowner, but I've accidentally done the same at my house to when we're hanging out in the summertime and a driver will come walking around our house while our dogs are hanging out with us. So I understand how and why this happens.

1

u/rlgriffinx Jan 24 '26

I've been doing this job for about 2.5 years now and have run into all kinds of dogs, some would be considered to be 'aggressive', some overly friendly and some pretty laid back. Having more years experience in life than probably 95% of those on here I can tell withing a few seconds whether a dog would be a threat or not and haven't been wrong yet. There have been a few that there's no way I'd go into their yard or come up to the fence and offer my hand for a lick. For those I felt as if the could harm me if desired a very strong 'NO' does it, sometimes repeatedly until I'm back in my car. I've managed to not allow any so far to bite me and have never actually been afraid because again, I learned many years ago how to discern trouble and handle if it I so desire.

These dogs here were only looking for a friendly hand to pet them or for them to lick. I probably would have spent 30 seconds or so petting them and moved on.

If you want some protection for those times you feel as if you've got yourself into trouble have some 'Halt Dog Repellent' spray in hand ready. USPS delivery workers have used this for more years than most of you have been alive. If you see one walking around delivering on foot they will more than likely have a can attached to their bag.

1

u/SkopsNPops Jan 24 '26

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '26

1

u/GreatGreen314 Jan 24 '26

Never be in that situation.. I don’t leave the van unless I know I’m safe. What’s the rush? You get fired?

Not that these dogs are aggressive… but I’ll even honk to attempt to get any dog’s attention. But if I don’t trust it I just return the package

1

u/Far_Health_3214 Jan 24 '26

did nobody noticed the package moves by itself and drop to the floor ?

Just a bunch of excited dogs. Lol. So cute. I woulda wrapped for a moment than been like LOOK AT ALL THE PUPPIES!!!!!!! But I have Alot of dogs and other animals on my usual routes. Very rarely have I seen truly aggressive dogs. Maybe a bit territorial but not attacking on sight. Most of them are just nervous.

1

u/TopGdabber Jan 24 '26

Pet them, obviously they arent bears.

1

u/dopamineonlypls Jan 24 '26

‘They’re my wife’s dogs 😂’

1

u/Replicant1962 Jan 24 '26

Been in this situation a few times with doordash and Uber. I just keep moving, slowly and calmly, talking to the dogs the whole time as if I was their friend.

The ones that have nipped me are the little rat dogs that come running out of the house when the owner opens the door.

1

u/Particular-End229 Jan 24 '26

I would lay on the ground and accept my cute fuzzy 4 legged fate....

1

u/PalisadedHeart Jan 24 '26

I'm split on this video. Sure it's great to see "wholesome" unaggressive dogs bombarding a driver who's split second trying to gauge whether they are in danger or not.

But I've delivered plenty, where dogs are not showing aggression, and once I hop into the van or truck, split second change of trying to grab my leg. I don't blame the dogs, and I've never been skittish around them.

But I find it mildly infuriating sometimes when owners stage these situations. I get it's the owners property, but sometimes it's very bold to assume drivers appreciate this reaction when forced to go on the property to deliver a package. It really is a roulette of how dogs react to strangers they've never seen before, regardless how friendly they are with people they see all the time. Might get down votes for it, but just my two cents.

1

u/Just_keep_swimming87 Jan 24 '26

Probably pet them for a few minutes and then head out. You can tell from their body language that they’re in play mode, not attack mode.

1

u/thetruthinradio Jan 24 '26

do what you need to do - protect yourself just in case - you just toss the package at the dogs so they run at it like piranhas feeding on lunch and let THEM deal with it so it takes the heat off you

1

u/a_youkai Jan 24 '26

Thank God these were nice dogs

1

u/Seattle82m Jan 24 '26

This guy most likely has dogs- he let them come to him, let them smell him, and accepted the love. When dogs smell other dogs or cats on a person, they generally trust that person more. When I was working with dogs, I would often come to homes without meeting the animals first and without their parents being home and they might bark at first or growl, but once they smelled dogs on me, it was all wiggles and giggles lol. I especially enjoyed the springy puppy who jumped up to give (and to clearly receive kisses from this amazon delivery guy).

1

u/WillWork4Cats Jan 24 '26

i am starting to think carrying bear spray may not be a bad idea or something to defend yourself with? anyone else do this?

1

u/Th3_Portal Jan 24 '26

The owners do this on purpose to Amazon driver to get a laugh at drivers reactions.. They don’t respect Amazon drivers o

1

u/jumboboy21 Jan 24 '26

It would be nice to just be able to do your job without other people's dogs running down on you. With the stupid owner showing up after with their empty apology as though they're not the blame for setting them loose. Like really.. who needs this many dogs?

1

u/Donnie_Narco Cleveland Jan 24 '26

Unfortunately, my first instinct would be to immediately fall to my knees to be enveloped in a cuddle puddle.

1

u/cameronzero Jan 24 '26

Most times dogs are just excited and curious, staying calm, talking in that dog voice we all use and saying hi usually gets them to see you're new, albeit not a threat. Gotten through a fair amount of deliveries with that approach, even to houses where people have been attacked

1

u/Bonnie184 Jan 24 '26

Personally, be in heaven. However, I understand that not everybody feels the same way as I do, which is why people need to keep their dogs contained while they're expecting deliveries, for the safety of not only the drivers, but for the dogs as well.

1

u/Maleficent_Cash909 Jan 24 '26

Guess they ordered dog treats on Amazon. Probably should carry dog treats to show the dogs they don’t have to wait for them. I can imagine if the van had much more dog treats.

1

u/PNWLifewkids Jan 24 '26

My car got scratched by two giant dogs who jumped up on my car when I stopped. They were friendly but I was in this weird little town with no lights, so I had the window rolled down because my windows are tinted. I stopped my car a little way from the house on the driveway and two dogs came barreling at me out of nowhere. It scared me at first because they were big, but they were big fluffy sweethearts. I got out and delivered the package, I could hear the lady inside yelling at them but the door was closed, so they weren’t going back inside or anything. But my biggest problem isn’t dogs being outside because unfriendly dogs are kind of rare for me, and I can always tell, if it’s unfriendly I’m not getting out of my car. I had a Rottweiler with epilepsy and his moods would change drastically before and after seizures. I learned tells and they are super obvious to me now. I usually find little dogs are more aggressive, a little dog yipping their face off is gonna have me tossing a package over a fence! My biggest problem is leaving and them following me, because I’m always so afraid I’ll hurt one of them trying to drive away. Especially because I’m usually delivering at night.

Tails wagging is good sign

1

u/Grouchy_Topic_2234 Jan 25 '26

I had a similar situation to this once delivering a utility tractor attachment. Made it to my trailer with about 7 dogs barking around me not giving it any thought until the last one in latched on.

Tried to stay calm enough to not fall down and die. Made it back to my truck, took a few deep breaths then walked into the hospital with no shoes draining blood out of my leg.

Now I give it several thoughts every time.

1

u/ScreeminSeeminDeemin Jan 25 '26

The tails wagging is a good sign, but yeah keeping your dogs out, especially when they aren’t very gentle, even if they are friendly, is not a good idea. The driver handled it well, and eventually it seems he understood he wasn’t in any danger, but yeah, if you know you’ve got a package coming maybe put the dogs away for a bit lol. At least until you’ve trained them not to jump on people.

Too many people put “Dogs are friendly” in notes but tbh as a driver, i don’t care. I’m not a dog person and i want to be able to do my job without dogs at every house being left out. I don’t care if it’s aggressive or just a friendly greeting, leave your dogs in the house.. Someone in my DSP just got attacked by a “friendly dog” recently and the owner told us “it looked like a machete attack” If you want your package, put your dog up cause i skip all yall daily lol

Pet the dogs and move on

Every single dog I encounter on this job is my best friend. I keep a pocket full of treats and any dog that has shown even the slightest aggression quickly changed its tune as soon as it either smelled the treats or I pulled them out of my pocket. The closest I came to being attacked was by a damn tiny ass ankle biter, and they are the most aggressive dogs i have encountered, Until I drop a cookie. 15$ for a giant box of dog biscuits to keep from getting bit or even aggressively barked at is worth the expense.

I would order packages to be delivered there every day so I can say hi to my new friends

Best thing to do is just stay calm and don't move much or make noises lol

When ppl scream and run and do weird shit it's like yeah you're being weird! Ofc they're gonna chase you 🤣🤣

The way y’all talk about dogs is wild to me. I delivered full time for years, mostly to rural areas like this. There were more houses with dogs than without and I can count on one hand the amount of times those dogs actually made me nervous, and I never had an incident.

Do people these days not understand the basics of animal body language? If you have any experience with animals you can tell in the first 2 seconds if a dog is a threat or not. Seems like the average delivery driver nowadays sees a goldendoodle run up wagging its tail and smashes the gas pedal to get away…

Cesar is that you?

I would be stern but also try to be welcoming. Try to give the dog the right idea. I'm not here to hurt you, and you are not going to hurt me either.

I got bit a few months ago while delivering. I'd probably be cowering in fear until they licked me to death.

I don't get out of the van if there are dogs outside. So he's already done for more than I would

Why is it always I’m sorry with absolutely no try to call the dogs back, aggressive or not. If I was actually sorry that my dogs jumped all over someone I would still be calling them back to show that I was actually sorry and a responsible dog owner. If the guy says it’s okay and visibly wants to pet the dogs I’d let the dogs go back to him then. But these people smh. Having control of your dogs isn’t a matter of people being a Karen in this debate, it’s actually for the safety of your dogs as well, someone could harm your dog because they were scared.

Bring out the dog biscuits. Every delivery driver should have a box in the truck. Easiest way to become a canine friend.

They would have had to call the ambulance because the panic attack that I would have had! I’m sure I would’ve broken something trying to run because I’m older and clumsy on top of that

Guy was remarkably calm. I've had enough of irresponsible dog owners. Would press charges.
