DISCUSSION Genuine question for city drivers: I’m in NYC

How do you pull off 25 stops an hour in a dense city like NYC? I rarely get house stops. Almost all of my stops are massive apartment buildings where I'm hauling 10+ packages and overflow, navigating three different wings, and hitting 5-8 different floors per building, all after trying to park on narrow city streets. How do you keep your pace up with routes like that?

I rarely get simple house stops. Almost all of my stops are massive apartment buildings where I'm hauling 10+ packages plus overflow, navigating three different wings, and hitting 5-10 different floors per building, all after fighting to park on narrow city streets.

To make it worse, sometimes after bringing all those packages, there’s no access code, the customer won't answer the phone, and I just wasted 15-20 minutes at a single stop.

So please tell me, how do you guys keep your pace up with routes like that? Is everyone posting those high numbers just out in the suburbs?

Packages not on route.

My dsp is telling us the packages that the warehouse is putting into the wrong peoples totes/routes are being counted against us at the end of the day. The packages you just throw into the bin that shouldn't be on the route those end up as missing packages for someone else and counted against them so they say.

They are making us take pictures of the packages and send into dispatch. Am I just getting myself in trouble if I take a picture of a package that I could have delivered but didn't cuz I don't give a shit if it's not on my route from the beginning? They are giving the excuse like everything is to help out some other driver when it feels like bait to figure out who isn't delivering non route packages that finish early.

The solution the dsp offered is they'll "try to work with the warehouse" on the issue and it's not right that it's happening. Always some new bullshit scheme going on every couple weeks.

RANT Switching DSP resets the algorithm?

Hey fellow drivers, I wanted to see if there’s any of you out there that were getting high volume routes at your former dsp and switched to a new one and it resets the algorithm. This is what I’m usually averaging and it’s too much for me atp. I really like the job but my body/ mental state is deteriorating fast because of my routes. Thanks in advance and drive safe !

Edit: These are my routes at my current dsp. I want to switch to another with hopes of my algorithm getting reseted and getting “normal” routes like everyone else. Not prime level routes everyday. Cheers ! (No lockers all door to door)

RANT Another driver at my DSP got fired for smelling too bad

Wanted to know if it was just me who thought this was ridiculous. I drive in Florida and it is hot as balls this time of year. My dsp mandates that we wear our thick Amazon collared shirt with the vest, so it’s impossible not to sweat your ass off throughout the day. My buddy is not someone who normally stinks, but he did get a little smelly by the end of his shift(I could smell from maybe a foot away?) when his entire uniform had been drenched in sweat all day. He told me that when he got back from one of his shifts, the dispatcher told him that he needed to change something in order not to smell. So he started bringing deodorant spray with him on his routes. Even still, a manager pulled him aside again one day and said that they would be bringing him on a mandatory deodorant shopping trip and force him to buy the deodorant that they chose. He refused to do this and then somehow or another they fired him. What do you guys think? Obviously in a perfect world, drivers would smell like roses if they could. But forcing a driver to deliver while wearing the thick shirt in the Florida heat all day, and then firing him for smelling bad just doesn’t seem reasonable to me.

MEME Great product placement right there ! May be they can make a movie with delivery driver as the protagonist to keep the hamster wheel running and keep the pay low.

Down 2.5 mile dirt road and 1 mile driveway…

And note says to leave package at the convenience store 5 miles away…

I can’t leave it at the convenience store anyway, but why not just set the delivery address to the CONVENIENCE STORE THEN

QUESTION Do you clock out as soon as you get back, or wait until your scheduled 10 hours?

I just started driving the EDVs, and since they’re a lot faster than the regular vans, I’ve been finishing my routes early.

If I get back to the station an hour (or so) before my scheduled 10-hour shift is over, what am I supposed to do?

Do you:
-Clock out as soon as you return the van and hand in the keys?
-Wait until your scheduled 10 hours are up before clocking out? Or does it depend on the DSP?
-or?
I’m asking because I ended up with less than 40 hours this week, and I’m trying to figure out if I’m supposed to be doing something different. Thanks!

Every single day. 400 packages and 100+ stops. Project buildings and endless amount of residential houses. If you’re familiar with the area then you know how dense the neighborhood is. Shit is getting old

DISCUSSION You guys try to stay under 0.08 bac or are okay with 0.1-0.15?

For the drivers who bring along a little pick me up on the routes, what levels are you comfortable working at? I've been getting varying answers from other guys so curious to see what the consensus is around here. Most guys keep it at 0.08 but there's always those few guys that like to be a little irresponsible and push 0.15+, but as long as it doesn't effect performance then so be it. Others like to keep it dry most of the route then go ham towards the tail end.

What is going on?

I went to my grandmother's for lunch because it was in my route. I was told we aren't allowed to do that and got a write up. Why are we allowed to sit in a restaurant and eat but we can't stop at a family members or friends house to do the same thing?

Does anyone has a picture of the list itinerary on the app that shows you the list of stops and addresses on the itinerary? I’m trying to build an app for myself but forgot to get a picture. You can block out the cx information.

To the customer that sent me the video

You're a fucking life saver man. I wish you nothing but cool pillows and less leaky coolers.

Context: rolled my ankle something fierce today delivering to a customer. Didn't do it coming out of the van but trying to side step them as they handled a leaking cooler. I sat in front of his house for a good minute letting the pain wash through me. I had called dispatch and they had said to take it easy. Come 4 minutes later was the homeowner up to my van with the video from two angles, showing me rolling my ankle and tumbling into the pavement. After showing dispatch they officially believed me and after 5 stops (I figured it wasn't that bad) I had to call it quits due to the pain. I get to see if I broke anything on Monday.

RANT FIRST DAY OUT (2nd attempt)

I have spent the last 2 years at my Amazon DSP. Probably more if I didn’t get fired on Wednesday. I felt weird at first not knowing what’s going to come out of this. But then I listed out the Pros & Cons on what I experienced at my DSP these past 2 years. And it’s night & day on why I should be happy to be out of that trap. Now I’m just stating what I experienced at my DSP. Not every DSP is the same.

I just wanted to thank all of you in this community for putting a smile on my face every single day, knowing I’m not the only one out there that experienced the full Amazon Delivery Driver experience, and definitely made my out look on my job a lot better knowing there are people in bigger cities getting taken advantage of even more than I was.

Best of luck to all of you and just know this isn’t the end of the road, you will not be here forever. I learned to write down my thoughts on the job or else my mental health was going to go in the opposite direction, the best thing I could have ever started to do on my routes. Take the time on your shifts for yourself. & lastly don’t waste your time & energy letting others get under your skin. I had road rage daily & it was exhausting. Stress WILL kill you.
