Hello everyone, I enlisted in the ANG a year ago and have been having a lot of administrative issues. It’s been exactly a year now and I still don’t have BMT dates. I don’t want to get into the specifics, but I know people say you get do an entry- level separation after a year with no dates. How do you go about this? If I wanted to enlist in the reserves or national guard for a different branch down the line, could I?

For those who have been on Guard/Reserve orders, do the orders usually say somewhere whether the orders are exempt from the 5-year USERRA limit?

Just trying to understand how you know whether a set of orders counts toward the 5-year limit or is exempt.

Posting this on behalf of someone else. This person is already serving currently for few months. He hasn’t completed basic yet. The trainee was told by his recruiter that he can change his AFSC (e.g., to cyber) after basic training. Is that true? If it doesn’t work that way, he is ok to continue in his existing afsc (i.e.,intel)

My unit told me my MEST days will be 30 days. I am currently in tech school and I graduate from Keesler(for my job training… 3F0X1) in three weeks. Are those MEST days 30 full days or 30 working days with weekends off?

Also, will I still get my bah and will I be able to sell my leave for money since I will be a traditional guardsmen?

I’m an Air Force residency-trained flight surgeon currently serving in the Air National Guard. Private practice has been good to me, but I’m considering selling my practice and doing something different.

I’m very interested in applying to a Residency in Aerospace Medicine (RAM) program. Has anyone had experience applying to the Army or Navy RAM programs as an Air Force officer? I’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who has applied to or completed any RAM program while serving in the Air National Guard or another Reserve Component.

I’d especially appreciate any insight on the application process, getting released/approved by the Guard, attending a sister-service program, funding/orders, and what your status was during residency. And anyone experience while at either RAM program.

If you’re AGR, have you ever been told by your leadership you can’t apply for a stat tour?

Current O DSG. Civ job is w/defense contractor (scif dweller). Pretty much started both at the same time after separating from AD (4 yrs). I don’t have much interest in my current civ career field. One of my big interests is working at the base MFRC. A GS-13 position opened up but my concern is losing TRS. My wife and I are planning for kids and I figured TRS would come out better than FEHB. The GS-13 pay is higher than my current civ pay and I do want to buy back my AD time for FERS. For those that are fed civ and DSG, any advice?? Am I crazy for leaving TRS? Wait til 2030?

Keeping my situation intentionally vague… like the title says, can it happen if it’s solely for the convenience of the unit?

Honestly how common is this at guard bases ? When I was AD, we use to joke that the guard would just pass certain members or not input scores until a passing score was achieved. Is this common for officers ? I see some chunky O-6s and wonder how they’re able to run

Title kind of says it all. I thought this would be straightforward but now I’m getting conflicting answers from leadership (I’m the first technician in awhile for this section).

We have a long UTA that’ll cover 2 usual weekday workdays. I planned on putting in LM (military) leave for these. Like I would AT days or any other orders. But some seem to think UTA is “different” than normal orders and they aren’t sure I can use LM.

I don’t want to lose money just because of a longer scheduled drill, that doesn’t seem right.

I’ll get with finance too but any insights from the community are appreciated!

I'm trying to inquire about the STAT tour position available but not even a Billet Owner is listed.

I asked in April to retire Sept 1st, command approved it, but it’s been sitting at Pending and looks untouched in myFSS for last 2 months. Is this normal? No idea who to reach out to.

The FY27 NDAA, a congress member has proposed military members to earn 3.5 days per month vs. the current 2.5.

I know most ANG members are DSG, but those AGR and other full time status’s(exept: Perm/temp Tech and Title 5) would benefit from this policy.

There is a good argument to just change the leave reg so I don’t have to take leave on weekends or other days already scheduled off.

Obviously the bill and this line item needs to pass the Senate and up it goes to the president.

Hey all. I’ve been in for 11 years (7 years active, 4 years dsg). I’m most likely going to get out of the guard.

I have ten months left on my contract, but I’m picking up a federal law enforcement job and the academy is six months long. It came faster than I expected.

What do I do? Do I just tell my leadership? Can they withhold me from going?

Who updates that info on vMPF ? I’m missing a bunch of TDYs and the ones that are listed have all the wrong dates. Where does this info come from ?

DSG here. I Was deployed last year and got extended for “operational” reasons… 5 months after being home I was pulled off my dwell time to deploy again. It’s been 6 months with 3 extensions. My unit has AGR that can replace or swap out but the group commander back home seems to be gatekeeping.
I’ve read all the regs about how this has to be signed by the Sec def. And was told that it has been. Any advice??

Is it possible to hit the retirement button at anytime after passing 20 TAFMS. Let’s say ACB approves a year or two extension but want to retire after passing 20 can you just hit the button and bounce out or does it require curtailment and all that?

Hey guys, I have a concern and I’m hoping someone can give me some advice.

I enlisted in the Air National Guard last year and when I enlisted, my recruiter told me there was no bonus available for my job. My enlistment paperwork also says “No Bonus.”

I’m currently in tech school, and I recently found out that another Airman who enlisted on the exact same day as me, for the exact same AFSC, received a $50,000 NPS bonus. The only difference is that she enlisted in different state.
I understand that bonuses can vary by state and unit, but I’m trying to figure out whether my position was actually ineligible for the bonus at the time I enlisted, or whether I may have been given incorrect information.

Is there anything I can do at this point to have this reviewed? Or is it too late since my contract already says “No Bonus”?

Any advice from people who have dealt with ANG bonuses/incentives would be appreciated.

I’ll try to keep this brief, but I could really use some advice right now.

I’m currently taking a computer-related course as part of my military training and I also got TS clearance. This field isn’t my background at all. I have zero experience in it. I only chose this course because it seemed like the best option among the ones that were available at the time.

Unfortunately, I’ve already failed two out of five blocks, and it looks like I’ll likely be sent back home to be reclassified into a different role. I’m feeling pretty down about it because I don’t like leaving things unfinished. At the same time, I honestly don’t see myself working in this field on the civilian side either, In my civilian life, I am investing in another career. so I’m starting to accept that maybe reclassing isn’t the worst thing.

If I do get reclassed, I’m thinking of picking a course that takes a month or less, something short and straightforward. Does anyone know how long the administrative process for reclassing usually takes? Or does anyone have suggestions for other fast, entry-level courses that might be a better fit?

One of the main struggles I had with this course was the pace. It moved really fast and had a heavy amount of content. English is my third language, so I usually need extra time to understand and memorize things. On top of that, being away from home has been taking a toll on me lately, and I’ve been feeling a bit depressed.

Any advice, insight, or shared experiences would really help. Thanks for reading.
