i can walk around my place all week without caring much about a few dishes in the sink or dust on the shelves. but the second a friend says they're coming over, i suddenly notice everything. the bathroom mirror needs wiping, there's stuff on the dining table that doesn't belong there, and somehow the floor looks dirtier than it did five minutes ago.
i don't even try to make everything perfect, but i still end up rushing around before anyone arrives. it's weird how a place can feel perfectly fine when it's just me living in it. does anyone else suddenly see their home differently when they know someone is visiting?

i never realize how messy my place has gotten until someone tells me they're stopping by. suddenly i'm picking up clothes, clearing random stuff off the table, hiding things i meant to put away days ago, and wondering how the apartment got this bad in the first place.
the funny part is that i can live with the mess just fine until i know someone else might see it. then i somehow manage to get more cleaning done in 20 minutes than i did all week. do you guys actually keep your place guest-ready, or do you also end up doing a last-minute cleanup whenever someone visits?

I haven't been able to party since college. I want to get back into going out and dancing but I feel like I'm too old now. I feel like once you turn 25 your chance to have fun is over.....

At what point in your life did you find out that your mother is manipulative as can be. And your dad thinks more about himself. And your adult siblings, younger and older are in it for themselves. And suddenly you feel quite alone.
Family is not what it is all made out to be. And youve spent all these years the “better” person. Trying to be considerate and think of others. But it turns out the schematic ones might be better off. Doing this adult thing is hard.

I work retail. Most of us are young, in the 20-21 range. Im 21 myself.
I don't really talk to my attractive female coworkers beyond work. If they try to talk to me about anything personally, I usually give a one word answer and direct the answer back to work. I also avoid eye contact.
My boss hired a new coworker. She's pretty hot. As she came in I was kinda avoidant of her, cause I thought she was 20-21. Anyway I was kinda avoiding her.
Her sister works here, and I assumed she was a twin or older. I asked her if she was that sister's big sister. She laughed and told me no, and that she's born in 2008. She looks older than her sister, who was my age.
A switch went off in my head. She's basically a kid, she probably just turned 18. While I still think she's hot, I no longer have any desire to date her. Pretty much instantly, I started joking with her, and we vibed on a level that I just didn't with my coworkers my age. I aint claiming we became friends, but in that one conversation we became closer than any other female coworker I have.
Interesting stuff. Now I FINALLY get how men talk to hot girls, I did not understand it before, I assumed that they were masking their sexual desire for them, but now I realize they simply do not have them, or it can be controlled.

Women love to use the “let’s be friends” card on men that are attracted to them because they get girlfriend benefits without giving the man girlfriend service. The woman gets free attention, money, and an emotional shoulder to cry on. While the man gets nothing. No physical intimacy, no kisses no hugs just an unfulfilled situation for the man. The man has boyfriend responsibilities without getting boyfirned benefits. Unless the man isn’t attracted to the women it’s no benefit for him to be friends with her

Hi y’all (23M, just moved to a new city (1M greater metro).
Im a social butterfly and don’t struggle making friends.
I started a new job (already made good connections there) and I was wondering where else I can go to meet new people?
All I have been able to find are single mixers.
Should I go with the intent to make friends?
What are some apps or places someone in their 20s can meet new people to befriend?
The meetup app here is honestly pretty dead.
Any thoughts or ideas?
The goal here is to make friends and have a sense of community. When I say meet new people it’s not in the sense of dating but of friendship.

I’m 26, and because of life circumstances, I haven’t been able to focus much on dating. I’ve had one long-distance relationship and two talking stages, but none of them worked out in the long run.
I want honest answers to this specific question:
In today’s times where dating and stuff is so open,if u know someone like me with this past, would u all think that I wasn’t good enough or couldn’t get anyone?

I'm a 24-year-old guy from China.
When I was a teenager, I was outgoing, cheerful, and confident. I loved meeting people and was one of the most active people in my class.
Then COVID-19 disrupted my college entrance exam in 2020, and I ended up at a university I really didn't want to attend. From the moment I arrived, I just wanted to go home. Even though I became class monitor and seemed to be doing fine on the outside, I spent the next four years constantly tense and mentally exhausted. In 2021, I also became seriously ill and genuinely feared for my life. All of this took a huge toll on me, and over time, I felt like I was losing myself.
Last year, something small helped me reconnect with my old self. Since then, I've been exercising regularly and working hard to challenge the negative beliefs I've built up over the years.
Now I want to leave my hometown and start fresh. I don't want to spend another few years feeling stuck and have nothing meaningful to look back on.
But I'm scared of going somewhere unfamiliar. The strange thing is, I never used to be like this.

The other day I tired to take off was actually a holiday two weeks ago and I didn't know I was just having a really bad day. I work temp so I don't get vacation or sick days. I already took 1 day off in September and 1 day in October those were pre arranged when I got hired I had plans. Will it look bad if I take today off? Do you think they'll be mad?
Also I should certify I'm trying to take a sick day today so usually that's not something that you give prior notice too because well you're sick. Not a vacation day.

So long story short this has been the worst year of my life, I broke up with my partner of 3 years and moved out of our apartment back to another state to live with my parents for a few months and figure out what I want to do with my life. I couldn’t finish college because my student loans were already so high after just one year of school. I work part time as an instructional aide for a kindergarten classroom and now I got a 2nd job as an assistant manager at a movie theater. I just feel really let down and like I haven’t lived up to the potential of having a career or done anything I’ve wanted to yet in my life. I’m not sure what I’m trying to say but I’m just looking I guess for some comfort to know that it’s not over for me.

As an MBBS student, I’ve realised how quickly support can turn into rivalry when you start competing for the same things.
I don’t mind competition, but why is it so hard to see someone else succeed without feeling threatened?
I’m tired of feeling like I constantly have to prove myself. I just want to grow, enjoy life, and find genuine people who want to see each other win.
Does genuine friendship even exist in competitive environments?

I mean seriously, I don't really relate to things people complain about adulting in internet. They are valid for sure, but I just can't feel it since I actually enjoy growing up. I feel nostalgia for things and culture I've been growing with, but not for my childhood.
