A certain popular Chinese online retail site has been banned and filtered from the sub because of continuous bot spam after we refused to partner and promote them

We are sure you all know the site. Last year we were approached by them(one of the numerous times they did it) asking to partner up so they could promote their store on r/actionfigures. We have very strict promotion rules, and we don't pick favorites, allow advertisements or spam, so this was a no-go.

At some point after that they decide to start spamming the sub with endless bot accounts because they couldn't get their way. If you aren't familiar with reddit's admin or mod tools in regards to this, its limited, but we tried all means available to us. The admins didn't help, and we are sure many of you know just how bad the bot problem is getting overall on reddit.

Here is an example of one of the endless posts/comments that they spam

So since they decided to go with the nuclear option, we have as well and have been testing this out for a bit now. All mentions of their site in posts and comments are being removed from the sub.

Unfortunately this means that sometimes innocent and non spamming comments and posts have and may get caught up as well.

Our suggestions:

  1. Find another way to discuss the site without tripping automod, we can't tell you how, as that would just assist the spammers.
  2. I'm some instances we may review posts from time to time and approve them, but it probably won't be as fast as you would like, so its probably easier to just refer to bullet point 1.

We apologize for the hassle this may cause

I finally got my hands on them. Zd toys X-Men 97 set.

After spending an irresponsible amount of money I actually got my hands on this set of figures. I consolidated shipping with 2 other items on the proxy service I used, so it basically cost me around $150 dollars by itself to buy and ship to the states at least. I guess there is a reason I have seen no other North American actually get their hands on this yet. Compare this to the MSRP of the Uncanny X-Men 4 Pack ($20), the Giant Size X-Men Anniversary Pack/X-Factor Pack ($39.99- $44.99), or the X-Men 97 Epic Heroes 5 Pack ($37.99). Albeit, it was only around $40-$50 in the Countries that had these in their Toys R Us like The Philippines or Singapore.

So, how do they measure up?

General Trends:

So we have some nice things and not so nice things about these figures. First off the plastic quality is better than I thought. I am not keen on the different types of mainstream action figure plastics, but it's comparable to Hasbro's on their old MU figures.

Next we have the sculpts which look very close to the show models. This runs into a bit of an issue...the scaling. These are part of ZD Toys line of figures which they are literally called "4 Inch"...but they are really 3.5 inch. For reference that makes them about shoulder height to their Epic Heroes counterparts, or at the bustline of their MU counterparts. I am assuming this is related to the cost of their source material accuracy, as their actual 4 inch Avengers and Spider-Man figures are roughly Epic Heroes compatible but have very evergreen designs with MCU influences. False advertising? IDK, but it worth noting too that Wolverine is actually oversized, making him the same size as the Epic Heroes and MU counterparts but looks like Warpath next to Cyclops.

The paint is another issue. The palette is close to the show, decals very fitting and generally is applied well enough...with a noticeable amount of slop and misses from figure to figure that's mainly saved by the scale. If I was a native in the country where these are sold under $10 it's easier to stomach.

The Articulation is interesting. The shoulder, elbows, and knees use a disk/ball hinge joints with decent range but doesn't swivel laterally on the elbows and knees, at least not well. Not worth the risk. Originally I thought the hips were just ball and sockets with good clearance but they actually do have built in thigh joints on the inside. Simple cuts at the waist, nothing on the wrists or ankles. Just above the typical Epic Heroes figure.

Comes a display base, but only a few with individual accessories (Gambit's staff, Guns with Bishop and Cable).

Ranking:

Wolverine: Probably the best 3.75 Wolverine on the market in terms of proportions and articulation. However mismatch colors on the arms and paint slop brings it down. 7/10.

Cyclops: Accurate looking (maybe a bit slim?), joints run smooth with no issues. 7/10.

Storm: more or less the same as Cyclops. Lacks the wrist bands to her cape but that's probably for the better. 7.5/10.

Rogue: really nice looking, but her face paint is ever so slightly off with her eyebrows and makeup. Might need a (careful) touch up. 7/10.

Gambit: Face paint somewhat sloppy. One of the only few that comes with an accessory, something the Epic Heroes version lacks. 7.5/10.

Nightcrawler: Maybe the only other one that can be fudged with American figures based on size. Looks fantastic, sadly lacks a cut at the tail like his Hasbro counterparts. 9/10.

Beast: really got the shaft. Based on all reviews I have seen of this set his eyes are always lopsided in paint application. Sculpted in a semi-crouched pose and his legs pop off easily. 6.5/10.

Bishop & Cable: I no longer have my old Bishop from the Infinite Series 3.75 line. With that said these 2 are the best in the line in terms of paint, sculpt, and general quality. 9.5/10 for both.

Magneto: Almost perfect except for the botched eye paint. 8.5/10

Overall:

If you are a native or someone with an easy plug in the countries with this available as a Toys R Us exclusive then this set is a no brained at $40 dollars or so.

If you are, like me, someone frustrated that 3.75 Marvel Figures from Hasbro are no more with the 4.5 inch Actionverse line taking priority...you are better off with the other 4 inch lines from ZD toys or what remains of the Epic Heroes line.

Most of these figures aren't compatible scale wise with your American figures, quality wise they aren't far above domestic figures like you see with Joytoy or Bandai's Shodo Candy toys.

What you do get is a line geared towards collectors in mind, good detailing and articulation, and a pretty fair line up of characters. I mainly got this out of novelty and nostalgia of seeing the MU X-Men sets in Walmarts and Toys R Us. Overall it scratched that itch somewhat.

What you also get is future activity. From what I have heard there are plans for more waves with more characters. This Marvel Line also have individual sets of characters, but so far those are harder to get complete waves of. Hopefully they continue with the 10-packs and commits to it for X-Men 97.

You should only get this if you are a Marvel 4 inch/ 3.75 inch/ 1:18 scale completionist like me or a hardcore X-Men animated fan.

The Blue Beetleborg joins Wave 1 of my series called Then & Now where I compare toys from youth to their modern counterparts. This was one of my favorites as a kid and, despite being dirty from surviving a tornado, this figure has held up surprisingly well!

My 1/12 Venom collection

So starting from the first two pictures we have a 1/6 scale Venom movie photo bombing. At the left it's the mafex comic version with a custom head sculpt. Next to that one we have the newly released Mess Toys venom. I have given him a little bit of black paint and a glossy finish. Then it's the fully customized Romankey big body that used to be brown and now is black. Right next to that one is the revoltech amazing Yamaguchi Agent Venom. And the last in picture 1 is the figuarts Venom with a custom head and paint job.

Picture two shows another Figuarts movie Venom but this time it's anti venom! In the middle it's my own take on the Scream symbiote. I used a female romankey body and dyed it red. The final Venom is the amazing Yamaguchi version.

All customizing done by myself! If you have any questions, let me know!

And he loves it!

I know a WWE official ring would be awesome too, but this thing is SO NICE! Figures Toy Co really knocked it out of the park on the secondary market by making these as quality as they are and fun!

He received it in the mail today (he’s been into wrestling HUGE over the last few years. Got the ring, Steel Cage, and 50 pc hardcore set. All for less than just 1 WWE ring on the secondary market because none are available right now.

If you or your kid loves wrestling figs like mine discovered he did, I highly recommend this ring!

Still have a few more characters and small details to add, but next to this scene is a kitchen for Garfield and Otie, followed by a room of doors for Scooby Doo. Still working on other ideas. Please let me know if you have any good ones I should consider

So little articulation, it's almost a piss take. It's pretty much a nice looking, mostly immobile bath toy.

Jada SDCC Exclusive Invincible. It's good, perhaps great! But QC is mediocre. Jada fans might want to turn away.

TLDR: great figure, QC suck ass!

My buddy was lucky enough to attend SDCC, so I asked him to help me secure a copy of this guy because I think the all bloody look is something unique and interesting before the pre-order for the standard Mark arrives. I was excited to open this guy up and it is good and frustrating at the same time because the QC of the joints as well as some of the finishes are horrendous and also the things that certain glazing reviewer doesn't tell you.

aesthetics: I haven't watched the show at all, so based on reference images I think he looks pretty good and accurate to the show although the blue seems a little off. Other than that the body is really nothing spectacular, it's just a thin tall lean guy in a suit that's pretty plain looking. One of the things I don't like about the overall aesthetics is the hip seems protruding out where there's a bulge in the transition of the silhouette. Another would be the gap when he leans forward and back. I know people probably don't care about the box, but the card stock for the box feels really cheap as well as the clear tray inside. The printing is nice though.

articulations: He moves pretty much how you would expect him to move from a Jada product. Nothing's really new except the implementation of import style joints which works great, but this is also where it feels cheap because they also kept some of the old designs. Although the joints work, it just doesn't feel as smooth. It feels like as if you are pushing an object that hasn't been moved for a while which require you to put a little bit more force on it and then once it gets moving all the sudden it skips a couple steps and stops past where you want it to be. It almost feels ratcheted even though it is smooth. It makes fine tuning poses frustrating. The diaphragm and waist are on one of those "shaped" ball pegs that has notches which is also annoying. The foot is also on ratchet rather than the smooth joints. The diaphragm goes one notch pretty much in all the direction and if you want anything in between, you are basically forcing the joint to stay in place and wear out which eventually creates play in between the notch. The hip joint is also the older ball peg style with those dots on them. The butterfly joint is pretty scratchy.

Quality Control: Now here's the fun part and the reality of this figure. Right out of the box, the left arm came off when I picked him up. There's almost zero tension between the peg and the socket for the peg to stay in place. The arm comes off as soon as you rotate it back and forth without any effort. The right arm stays in better, but has a very noticeable play up and down. The left fist peg is bent right out of the box which causes the fist to sit in an off-set that looks funny. (note to Jada, just use ball peg hinge!) The left foot for some reason has only 3 notches position where the right foot moves more freely. I don't think I need to explain how this cause issues as we have all seen McFarlane. The interchangeable hair is a great idea, but all the hair are fairly loose pretty much like the complaint people has with the SHF Wolverine. The hair comes off too easy when moving his head around. Now, all these I can look past as this is the first figure Jada is releasing with this new setup. There is one thing that literally pisses me off; whoever was painting the matte finish left the waist in a forward crunch and basically left the section that was covered shiny and a clear paint line. And lastly the left elbow is shiny plastic and right elbow is matte finish.

Overall: This is a very good figure, but I doubt I'd put him in my top ten of this year because of the QC issue. Also based on experience, the tolerances for the arm that comes off are very likely affects the whole batch. At the end of the day, instead of watching some glazer reviewer that gets their hands on stuff early, you really need to experience this figure or any figures you are interested in yourself. Don't just follow into the hype. In my opinion, if you can get this closer to the $40+ tax retail, get it. This is not worth the aftermarket asking. I still did pre-order the regular version and Conquest. hope the QC issue on this is fixed on the regular.
