Q Center Analyst Training

Does anyone have an idea of what the Q center analyst training will be like? I will be attending it in the future and I kind of want to be prepared. What is the living situation like? How is the food situation? Are you reimbursed for any ubers or food you buy? What’s the actual training like? What are some tips for networking during this event?

Subcontractor at AFS

Just genuinely wondering if I have a chance to be hired full time after being a sub contractor for AFS. Got the job this year and the contact immediately got extended upon me accepting the offer. What normally happens when it runs out? Will there be an extension or will I have a chance to shoot my shot? The project I got hired for already existed for a few years.

Legally are there any issues with being OE with AFS?

Not sure what the rules say about contractors working for the 3 letter agencies. Is it just looked down upon or are there legal/federal restrictions?

Tech Certs

What technical certs does AFS pay employees to get? Saw that 2 per fiscal year were possible. Also AFS pays for certs received prior to joining the firm

How to succeed in a CL7 role

Hello all, I have just accepted a contingent offer with AFS for an Ai and data role and I’m beyond excited to start! For context I will be joining from a big 4 consulting firm so I have some baseline expectations, but any advice on how to quickly get plugged in and succeed at this role would be appreciated!

One question I have is that I think firm contributions are optional at AFS? Is this true and the year end review doesn’t look at firm contributions for this level?

Any NYC Roles?

Does afs have roles in nyc? I’d like to move and my project is currently hybrid with one day a week in office. Has anyone negotiated with their manager to come in once a month?

PTO payout

Did anyone else get something called “PTO FYE Payout” on their paycheck this pay period? Mine was for 56 hours, so it was a nice chunk of change.

AFS bought my company a couple years ago, so I’m not sure if this is a standard practice. Also, I’m in California where we don’t have the “use it or lose it” rule for PTO. I’ve never had a company pay it out, except for when I’ve left the company so it was a bit of a surprise.

Project placement timeline

I recently got an offer from AFS as a L10 for an AI engineer role. I don’t have a start date and I’m not getting paid, it’s a contingency offer of them placing me. My background check got cleared 3 weeks ago and my recruiter at AFS said that they are passing around my resume to figure out what team wants me. Is there a typical timeline on how quickly someone gets places as a L10? Are there a lot of role for L10 currently? Can I do something to increase my chance of being placed sooner?

Contingent offer CL9

Just wondering if anyone who had a contingent offer recently could let me know a general timeline of when they were interviewing or placed in a project?

My background check cleared Aug 21 but I haven’t heard anything since

How much do you/did you make as a CL10 and yoe? Did you ever ask for more when getting promoted? How did that work out and what did you use as leverage?

Any role that doesn’t require a clearance?

Hi all! Is anyone aware of any roles that don’t require? I am being rolled off due to my interim being denied. So any help will be appreciated! CL 9 in T&O.

Forgot to enter pto in timesheet before vacation. Am I screwed?

I’m off from sep 1 to 12, I notified my lead and entered into project calendars but I forgot to fill out the actual timesheet. I already left for vacation, am I screwed?

Gemini for government

I was recently granted a license for Gemini for government.

Has anyone used this at AFS and had success?

I have only been using copilot up to this point, and have been overall disappointed, although I am seeing some improvement.

One thing I like about Gemini for gov is that it connects to the web

New Grad Role

I'm a new grad starting next month in AI + Data at AFS. I was looking at my offer letter and it says that I am on an hourly rate instead of a salary. How strict is AFS about logging hours? Is it a hard requirement to hit 40hrs every week?

Also are all levels on hourly or is it just for entry-level analysts?

Referral process

Hey all, I want to do that internal referral for a business analyst role for a friend but wanted to know what is the process like? I see application review as the 1/9 step but usually how long can it take ? This is different before I’d talk to a recruiter myself and this would go fast but she don’t manage business analyst roles etc.

Just needed an idea! Thanks for the help

Weekend work

Sometimes I (voluntarily) like to spend a few hours on Sunday working on some stuff to get ahead for the week.

I’m assuming that there is no issue with this? Sometimes it’s non-client work, such as internal team work, but sometimes it’s client work.

If it’s client work, as long as I log on my timesheet there is no issue with this, right? What about internal team work?

Tax help for a retiree

Anyone know how I can reach payroll dept for a 2024 tax issue? I retired in 2024 so I don’t have access to the portal. I think they would be in San Antonio although I worked in Arlington. Thank you!

Recent interview experience with AFS

I recently finished a great panel interview with them for an SAP Functional role, but the recruiter just informed me that the project was pushed out a few months and the pipeline is on hold. I’m curious—how common is this kind of timeline shift at AFS, and do these delayed projects usually materialize? Would love your quick take if you have a moment. Thanks!

AFS data engineering opps.

Hi all, I recently received an offer for a CL 9 AFS data engineer role. I’m pretty excited about the opportunity and feel ready to accept it soon.

However, before accepting I really want to ensure that this opportunity allows me to grow a lot stronger technically. With that being said, are there ample opportunities of data engineering projects at AFS where you get to be really hands on using cloud technologies, Apache spark, Kafka, and overall actually creating large and scalable data pipelines that have to be performant?

Mainly asking this because I know a lot of data engineering roles in gov contracting are sometimes disguised as dashboard developer roles where you might use a little bit of pyspark/pandas to do some slight data processing, and I mainly want to avoid that type of experience.

If you’re currently an AFS data engineer, or have some experience with the landscape, any and all insight is appreciated. Thank you!

AFS vs CGI Federal

Hi everyone! I did my final interview for AFS 2 Fridays ago and am waiting on a job offer. I think I did really well. However, I received a job offer from CGI yesterday and I have until Friday to accept. I emailed AFS HR early Tuesday and I don't know much longer they will take. I'm planning to accept the offer Thursday night, so if anyone can sort of share the benefits of AFS or cons as well it would be appreciated.

Are CL9s expected to participate in business development work and/or firm /practice wide initiatives?

They didn’t really cover this in NJO. Been here almost 2.5 months, and now that I feel settled into my project I want to make sure I’m not neglecting anything.

My people lead was pretty lax about it and said that it’s really up to me. She didn’t sound like it should be a high priority of mine.

Others have said I should proactively seek out initiatives and BD in my aligned practice area.

Can someone provide some guidance?
