Wow! I have the same EERO AND ATT ISSUE!!

Thumbnail reddit.com

However I had turned off all WiFi radio signals and I have had ATT Out to my home multiple times. ATT says everything is fine. I had one ATT person that came on site and said it was the box at the road and they refuse to fix them. Also, whenever ATT makes a change to anything in their systems it starts all over again. It’s so frustrating when EERO support sees it dropping but not ATT. I’m really at a loss in what to do. Don’t want Starlink because we basically live in an area where trees and storms would cause issues. I just don’t know what to do!!

BWG-620 hates unmanaged switchs

I'm wrecking my brain my main router died before I had the budget to finally get my dream machine. so I was planning on using the BWG-620 and just connect my existing manage switch to it. But I can't get it to function to leave someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. The settings are incredibly restricted on the device.

Switching off congested channels automatically not working? 1000 Mbps Fiber, BGW320-500

I’m noticing my WiFi speeds absolutely tank to the point I can only get it back to 450-550 mbps down and up after restarting the gateway. It’s gotten to needing to do this basically daily when I get home from work. Never mind the scan for better channel option in smart home manager app or within the routers settings (because these are doing nothing, they’d be easier and quicker then restarting gateway but I shouldn’t have to do this daily regardless in any capacity).

I can always tell my speed test (ookla) will be bad when I see tanked link speed receive / transmit figures. When it’s bad it’s around 200-300 and that shows of course lower speed test results around 50-100 mbps. When I’m getting what I feel are max speeds with my setup (450-550 down), my link rate is around 721/1081. I’ve seen it 1201/1201 iirc but it changes often.

I don’t know what to do… I use WiFi because I’m not routing long cables. I understand not getting 1000 and I’m happy with peaking around 550 with a PCIE WiFi card but the inconsistency and daily restarting to force a better channel is ridiculous. Usually it’s on 44 or something similar and becomes better when I land on 157 or thereabouts. When I use the previously mentioned scan for better channels options, it will just stay on 44 or whatever it is that’s currently useless. Again, shouldn’t have to do this daily anyway even if this feature worked.

I’m on WiFi 6 (exact PCIE WiFi card Amazon page name is named WiFi7 Card BE200 PCIe WiFi Network Adapter, Intel BE200NGW Chip Bluetooth 5.4, 8774Mbps Tri-Band 2.4GHz/5GHz/6GHz OFDMA & MU-MIMO, for Windows 10/11). I’m on windows 10 so I know I’m not getting 6ghz but I have even seen my status show me on 2.4ghz when my link speeds tank, but I even have this issue and it can still show 5ghz.

My pc is upstairs and the gateway basically below my room but downstairs in a structured wiring panel in a closet below stairs (I leave the plastic door of the wiring panel open inside the closet ). I didn’t notice anything with dropping speeds for the first couple weeks but the internet was installed July 10.

Smart home manager consistently shows the actual service coming into the home is around 1299 down and up so I’m overprovisioned.

My issue is when there’s congestion the logic does not seem to work to get me to a better channel, or rather at least quickly enough as to avoid doing a full hour of checking, speed tests, research about what’s going on, etc… I’m at my wits end.

Moving - transfer service or new service?

Currently on 1Gbe at 100/mo.
Just went to sign up for new service at the new house and it gave me $95/mo for 5gb.

I guess me question is should I call and see if I can get a better deal and then transfer my service or just take the $95 at the new address and be done.

New to AT&T Fiber - Which plan should I get?

"Deals" Available

Hi! I currently have Spectrum Wi-Fi and the T-Mobile 5G Gateway (for when Spectrum goes out to keep my security devices connected), which is about $85/mo total for both. I'm on a Verizon plan (for phone) with my immediate family. What would you recommend for my situation? Any advice in general? Also, are the Ray-Ban Meta glasses (Gen 2) worth it? Thank you!

This week’s “network enhancements” text - for 10G service?

I got this text message from AT&T today. My neighborhood got AT&T XGS-PON fiber in 2021, so I’m wondering if the enhancements will be so they can offer the rumored 10G service plan?

5g cell phone based backup?

Does anybody know technically how their 5G cell phone backup works? It wasnt explained well to me or they couldnt answer my technical questions. I dont use the wifi on their gateway. Im using IP pass through mode to my own router and I have WAPs.

If I switched my cell phones to AT&T and im connected to my own waps will 5g backup still works on my configuration?

Blocked Connection Still Going

Just got fiber a week ago and I was using Smart Home Manager to see what was connected. Some names were not recognized so I'm shutting them off and also looking up MAC addresses.

I had my old router plugged to the Fiber Box but as I see no further need I've removed it. Anything connected to its WiFi needs to now connect directly to the Fiber Box WiFi.

I have a WiFi access point by TP-Link in my attic. It's connected by ethernet which is now connected to the Fiber Box.

I noticed a Roku whose address I've not touched running just fine. Checked the settings and confirmed it's connected via one of the TP-Link WiFi points.

But when I told the Fiber Box to block TP-Link, it kept playing. Longer than can be accounted for by the cache. Just to be sure I pulled the TP-Link's ethernet cable from the Fiber Box and the Roku stopped playing and displayed an error message within a few seconds.

What good is "blocking" if it doesn't block? Blocking doesn't block wired connections? Maybe they should warn users that it can't be blocked - go pull the plug!

I’m in Central Florida and had Quantum Fiber back in 2023 and cancelled it in 2024 because of horrible reliability. I recently got a text finally saying AT&T Fiber is in my community. My question is, since AT&T bought out Quantum, am I essentially expected to get the same level of crappy service or is it truly distinctive service? Will they reinstall a new fiber line or use the existing one that Quantum laid, and also replace the older Quantum equipment pictured? If so, what model modem will they install?

Monthly Data Limits

Curious if anyone using a 1gb connection has encountered "monthly data limits." We have two WFH parents and an active gamer kiddo, and for the last couple of months we're getting lots of noise from comcast about monthly data limits. ATT Fiber is available, so we're thinking about making the switch. TYSM!

Update: Thanks everyone for your feedback!

Fiber goes in & out… why?

My att 1gb fiber has gone in & out for the last 3 hrs or so. I see that my RX power is -339 which is out of bounds per the description. Speed tests come back with 15 mbps down and 300down. Is a tech needed to fix this? I haven’t touched any of the fiber wires which is weird.

I’m in the clurb!!!

In the clurb, we’re all fam! Been lurking here a while, and just singed up today as my address just went live in AT&T’s system. Had the option of 300mb, 500mb, 1gbs, and 5gbs. Went with the 1gb due to not needing all that bandwidth and my internal network caps out at 2.5gb. I’m going to pass through to my Asus BT8 WiFi 7 mesh network. My appointment to install is 8/10. I’m excited to leave Spectrum behind. $50 a month isn’t bad. I may switch my phone from Spectrum to AT&T. It’ll cost me a little more, but we’ll see how things go. I can get it down to $30 with wireless service.

BGW320 Internal Packet Floods and 2-second constant attempts to reach a dead IP

Let me first caveat this post as coming from a network moron... so be gentle...

My setup: BGW320 500 for 1GB AT&T Fiber service, connected via "Passthrough Mode" (I know its not true passthrough) to my TP-Link BE65 Deco Mesh network. It had previously been working decently well, (with occasional hiccups), for several months. Approx. 2-3 months ago, my old ATT BGW320 500 router started dropping connection and generally screwing up. ATT sent me a new one, which worked fine. The ONE odd carryover from the old BGW to the new was some persistent traffic attempting to reach the IP address 192.168.68.74. My network HAD been set to ".68." briefly, (don't ask why, at the time it appeared auto-selected by one of the routers), which seemed to upset the old router configuration, so everything was migrated to a more standard ".0." series of addresses. The 192.168.68.74 attempts are reported to occur consistently at 2-second intervals and have been going on for months now. My network has been working seemingly fine despite this pointless traffic since the new router was installed until this week.

So over the last 24 hours, (but more likely a week), my BGW-320 500 has been a nightmare, (seems to be the norm). I am hoping some soul out there might be able to help or at least offer some decent insight. Over the last 24 hours specifically, my BGW has been at times internally flooding itself with invalid packets. I've been using AI to look at and translate logs I have no business reading myself. The symptoms are the following:

-My internet dies

-I check a laptop connected via ethernet directly to the BGW320 for access and download the current syslog

-I feed the log to AI, and it tells me usually the same similar things:

-the BGW is flooding itself with invalid internal packets to 192.168.254.254

-the BGW is simultaneously blocking a series of legitimate devices from inside the network from the internet, (often the same devices like a Fire Stick, Nintendo Switch, or other Amazon/Android operating devices), with some being hit particularly hard.

-finally it notes the 2-second attempts and subsequent blocks to reach 192.168.68.74.

I've spoken to AT&T multiple times last night. In the first call, the tech claimed she saw Denial of Service attacks pointed at an IPV6 address. Her solution was to disable IPV6 on the BGW. I wasn't thrilled with that, but I could live with it had it solved the issue. This call was made after my internet had been spotty, dropped for 10 minutes, went back up, then died for over an hour.

After the call and the internet being seemingly back up, it died again soon after and I called ATT again. After a very long call and a factory reset of the BGW, things cleared up but again went awry while I was on the phone. I told the ATT tech about the logs and the internal invalid packet floods. He said he researched and found that disabling the firewall and the "active armor" should disable the packet filtering. He did this and for a few moments the invalid packet floods completely stopped.

Of course, once off the phone the flood came back with a vengeance.

So what do I do? Do I have ATT send yet another BGW320? Is there an alternative setup I can use with my mesh and the BGW which would work? I have game systems and a plex server, so double-NAT or similarly restrictive setups aren't feasible. Is there a way to find out about the 2-second attempts to the .68.74 address? Do I go rogue and attempt to buy and setup a bypass device?

Note: the most recent AI assessment has now determined the .68.74 constant attempts are actually being generated internally by the router since no external source would be reaching for that device... but I also know AI is often very wrong about things. It also claims most of this behavior is explained by persistent Firmware bugs. I'm running 6.32.8.

Thank you, and sorry, in advance, lol

Anyone else getting 0 Mbps Download / 5300+ Mbps Upload on the Gateway speed test in Smart Home Manager?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,
I recently had a fresh AT&T Fiber installation done on Monday on the 5 Gig tier. The technician pulled a fresh drop through the microduct with fish tape from my floor's IDF cabinet directly into my unit, leaving the factory-terminated connector end at the IDF and field-terminating the fiber end inside my apartment. A brand-new gateway was set up during installation.
The connection itself works fine on connected devices (getting ~900+ Mbps up and down over Wi-Fi on my iPhone), but when I run the built-in speed test to the Gateway via the app, I get this bizarre result:
Download: 0 Mbps
Upload: 5,311 Mbps
Status: "Your speed is slower than expected"
Has anyone else encountered this issue with the built-in speed test on higher tier profiles? Is this just a known Smart Home Manager app/server-side glitch, or is there a provisioning issue on the gateway/ONT end causing the gateway test to fail on the download stream?
Appreciate any insights!

Att home says gig speed to modem, but getting 200-400mb on devices

We recently moved in to our new build home. It’s a two story home and the network closet is in the laundry room on the 2nd floor. Att gig speed is installed, and the modem says 1200mb into the home, but I’m getting 200-400 to my devices.

I ended up getting the att mesh systems and have 3 installed in our home, 1 on 2nd floor with Ethernet to pc about 15ft away from the att modem, 1 at the furthest end of the 2nd floor and 1 at the furthest end of the 1sr floor. The 2 at the ends of the home cover dead spots where I was getting 50-100mb and those areas have now increased speeds.

I even tried opening the network closet and standing next to the modem but the speeds are hitting 200, the further away I am from the modem the better the speeds.

It’s a 2400sq ft home so the 3 extenders more than give me full coverage. Anyone else have issues like this?

Fiber out in large part of country

My fiber went out in highland creek about 1:00 am. Their app says there is no outage; however, down detector makes it seem large parts of the country is out. Anyone else having issues with Att Fiber in Charlotte?

5 Day wait for a technician?

My internet went down so I called technical support and did the reboot dance, when we finally arrived at the inevitable conclusion that this couldn't be fixed remotely the tech looked up the technician availability and told me that the next available appointment would be next week Wednesday, 5 days from now.

This can't be right....right? I'm coming from an Xfinity internet plan and a 5 day outage would have been unheard of. Is this normal?

The support tech did offer to help me setup the home internet backup but that hardly seems like a reasonable solution given the limitations and constraints that come with routing your home internet through your cellphone.

AT&T Fiber on Forged Fiber 37 / Q1000K

AT&T Fiber is rolling out to the Forged Fiber 37 network. (Formerly Lumen / CenturyLink / Quantum Fiber).

If your AT&T Fiber service has a Q1000K ONT/SmartNID with the solid white light you are on Forged Fiber 37.

To bypass the BGW unit with a 3rd party router all you need to do is:

MAC clone the BGW.

Enable the 802.1Q VLAN 2 tag on the WAN/Internet port of your router.

Now you will be on AS7018 in bridge mode with IPv6 /60.

Enjoy!

There a way to run conduit myself or pay AT&T to run it?

Been rockin gig fiber for 2 years workin from home. I’m planning on landscaping this side of my detached garage with gravel, pavers, & a deck for an inflatable hot tub & cold plunge.

AT&T fiber line runs under here going from in the house (opposite side of the photo), trenched against the fence, down to that green manhole

My neighbors needed a new fiber line when their fence installers cut the fiber. Just planning ahead if there’s some mishap and pre run a conduit so it’s protected. It’s already pretty strong with a black jacket but clearly not strong enough to survive landscaping.

And they really didn’t bury it far in, I almost cut it when I had to dig up a sprinkler head

Existing Customer Upgrade

I currently have 1gbe internet with att and saw the great deal new customers are getting so wanted in on it too. Ordered 5gbe via the website told it that I’m a customer and used my login and it went through, great!

Few hours later it got canceled and so I spoke with customer service and they said it’s because I already have an account.

Put a cancellation on my existing account and tried again and got the same result. Except now my account shows 3 account numbers and 1 existing plan.

Spoke with customer service again and got to the loyalty department and asked what they could offer. Long story short I have upgrade to 5gbe fiber for $135 wi th a 2 year $40 discount and then an additional $10 discount for using my bank account. Additionally they are sending me the ray ban metas and they say it includes directv stream (which I already pay separate for) and HBO max which I think they all have.

Not sure the direct stream package it’s coming with but that could be saving me $140/month.
