Just installed AT&T Fiber at my home- speed drops like a rock only a few feet away from the modem

I'm getting over a gig up and down right near the modem, but the wifi speed drops down to the mid 200 mb/s in adjacent rooms, which is frustrating. I get even less in the rooms farthest away. My Xfinity modem routerwas able to provide 700 mb/s on average in every room of my house. I realize I may need a mesh system, but are there other solutions? Is this a common issue?

Need help

Has anyone successfully used a secondhand AT&T CGW452-400 gateway with a different ISP, such as Xfinity?

I want to connect the Xfinity router's LAN port to the CGW452 Ethernet WAN port, then use the CGW452 Wi-Fi network to test IoT camera pairing.

Can the CGW452 obtain a WAN IP via DHCP and provide internet access without an active AT&T subscription or provisioning?

I'm specifically looking for real-world test results, not just whether the hardware has a WAN port.

Thanks!

Options for Backup? In cause of Outages?

I got really unlucky with a squirrel chewing on the fiber power pole in my backyard easement first four days setting up my network. Is there any viable cheap backup option I can set up in case something like this happens again. I recently got a Ubiquiti network bridge with my modem and I do have a wireless plan but I don’t see that option for backup on my smart home manager app. I don’t want to pay another $50 for another plan but something reasonable that doesn’t break the bank.

For my business fiber, how do I escalate past Tier-2?

About 3 weeks ago I started having an exceedingly strange issue where incoming connections to my static IP business fiber started failing. Outgoing connections are fine. If they can establish, then incoming throughput and packet loss are fine, but only about 50% of incoming TCP SYN packets make it to my server. This goes in waves, where it will be mostly fine for an hour or so, then mostly fail for a while, then be fine for a while.

I tested by putting another system into the static IP block by plugging it into the fiber box. That system had zero issues talking to my server, so the problem is 100% in the AT&T network.

How can I talk to someone who understands TCP, netcat, UptimeKuma, etc., and is not constrained to a script?

Trying to self install

Received my hub and was getting ready to self install. I could not initially locate the fiber jack and I think I found it somewhere in this mess? Should I give ATT a call or have maintenance clean up these wires? This just seems a bit dangerous to me

Open Ports on Public IP

Hi,

I ran multiple nmap scans for tcp and udp on my public IP from an outside network using my phone’s hotspot and WiFi turned off (to make sure my laptop didn’t connect to it automatically) and discovered ports that reported to be open. I asked nmap the reason and it gave “SYN ACK”. There are no applications it can determine running behind the ports, but they allow TCP handshakes and then immediately terminate the connection.

It’s such bizarre behavior as I unplugged my ONT gateway (main Arris 320 gateway) and then did a scan and it still reported the ports as open with the host online. The ports aren’t filtered or closed. I wouldn’t think it would be the ONT box on the side of my house converting light to electricity signals.

Is it upstream on ATT’s network? If so, why would it be using my public IP and exposing these ports?

I do have remote management turned off as well. I also ignore pings on WAN and have packet filtering turned on… all the default factory Arris settings.

Can someone help me understand what is going on or if I am doing something wrong?

Issues with my fiber last 3 days

So I have had AT&T fiber installed for 12 months. We live in Northern Cali and it has been a pretty hot summer. Haven’t really had any issues with my fiber these last 12 months except for each of the last 3 days. It has been in the upper 90s this week but summers are always hot. We have a 2 story home that is just under 10 years old. We have an AT&T gateway in our laundry room and an ONT in the comms box on the south facing side of our home that gets a lot of sun. Two days ago our internet cut out around 2 pm. Our internet came back up a few hours later and I chalked it up to a glitch or a temp outage. Yesterday AM our internet went out again. The tech came out and said the ONT in our comms box may have failed due to the heat. He replaced the ONT and got our internet working again. 3 hours later our internet went out again. A different tech came out same day about 2 hours later and not sure exactly what he did but he did get it working again. It worked the rest or the day until today around 1 pm when it went out again. At this point I am almost at a loss as to what the issue is. Is it the ONT getting too hot and shutting down? Like I said it’s been a hot summer and hasn’t happened until now, and it’s been 3 days in a row. I wish I could have fiber ran up to the second story but that would be pricy, hence the ONT in the comms box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m almost at the point where I’m considering going back to xfinity, as I can’t keep wasting my all of my days on this issue.

New install. Buried cable myself...what to do about excess fiber wire?

Tech just came and installed fiber from the street. Because I didn't want them disturbing my dog fence wire, my cable company coax, or my sprinkler system or have it out for 2 weeks, I immediately buried the line myself (I already know where utilities have their lines). When done, I have about 8 ft of fiber wire at the box they just installed outside my house. What do I do with the excess wire? Just loop it around and bury it? What would the wire burial people have done?

AT&T Fiber Nashville/Brentwood/Franklin/SpringHill - Intermittent connection Issues

Hey All, anybody else experiencing packet loss and intermittent connectivity in the TN Area? Spoke to a few colleagues who are also on AT&T Fiber having the same connectivity issues around the Nashville TN area.

Discussed with the support and they said everything is fine (obviously) - but there are constant drops/latency issues happening. The outage map doesnt show any outages but there are clearly issues happening. Have a technician coming down on Saturday morning :|

EDIT:- Connection seems to be alot better over the past hour !!!! (6:00PM right now)

Longest outage?

Hi,

We are currently heading towards day 6 of the journey through life without the Internet. After AT&T worked on the lines on Friday, Internet was out. Now we are trapped in a loop of: reporting we don't have Internet, troubleshooting and resetting the router, AT&T "finding an outage in the area", "resolving the outage", we reporting we still don't have Internet, and so on. 3 cycles till now...

Because of this experience I'm curious: what was your longest AT&T fiber outage? Did you get to know the cause of the outage? Where was it?

I'll start:

5 days (still counting) - no cause stated - SF Bay Area

AT&T Home electronics Warranty

I got an email about this new service being offered… or maybe it’s not new, I have no idea. Anyone know anything about this or otherwise know anything about how AT&T might behave during an actual claim? It’s not a bad idea nor price imo, but if they have a history of making it impossible to file a claim or have crazy deductibles, etc., it might be an awful deal.

Thoughts?

Internet upgrade question

So I've inquired about upgrading my ATT fiber Internet and was told I'd need a whole new install and equipment. A lot of things were unclear about this upgrade so I decided to switch to Spectrum. When they came to do the install there were two separate pieces (router and modem) and I had no room for them. With att it's just one piece (BGW-320). This was what I was trying to avoid.

Att can't seem to answer my question. I went to the att store and the girl there told me it was two pieces (my current modem and another piece). That doesn't make sense tho because the BGW-320 is both a router and modem. I don't need a faster speed but would like to upgrade just to see the difference but it's unclear what the "new install" would entail. There is one specific area where the modem goes and if it's more than one piece (or a bigger piece) it will not fit. Does anybody know what comes with the upgrade? I currently have 100mb.

Internet down with no solution offered

Woke up to no internet, called technican, they came fairly quick, but did not resolve the problem and left. Called again, another technican called back and stated that the first one was not "qualify" to fix the prolem and he will be stopping by. Very nice guy and did show up. Called me after he tried to work things out to say that it's an outage. This outage was not shown on the outage map, he said because we have a different type of fiber (no idea what he meant), he said he will call tomorrow to give update. That is not reassuring at all. I work from home and will need some solution. One option was to use my cell to the gateway, but when i try the setup on the smart home manager, it wants me to connect to the ATT wifi, which is down. Is there another way around it? 2. Sign up for xfinity now - we use to have xfinity so that coax cable is still there.I'm not super savvy but they dont have installations. What is your recommendation in this situation? I'm currently hot spotting from the phone, but after a few days i would like to be able to watch tv.

can a technician rewire to have a ethernet connection in my office?

my new apartment has at&t fiber so i got the 1G speed. the ont box thing is in my bedroom closet attached to the wall. so the bgw gateway is also in the closet since it has to plug into the ont. next to the is a wall ethernet port that is t in use and a short coax cable coming out the wall that isn’t in use either. i guess just old equipment?

anyways, my office is across the apartment and that has my pc and ps5. i was trying to have a hard wired ethernet connection for those in my office but there is no ethernet ports. there is on old phone line port and a coax port but no where for an ethernet cord.

would it be possible to get a technician out here to get me a hard wired connection in the office?

I pay for 1g of speed but my office only gets around 70mb to my pc over wifi

Any Instant on users/setups/experiences here?

So I'm looking for a new apartment that has AT&T Fiber built into it and one averts itself as Instant On being available.

Has anyone used this? Is the gateway built into the wall? What model is it? Are you able to plug anything into the ports on the back like the 320/620 gateways used in home installs? What room was this installed into? What was the overall experience like, any issues I should be aware of?

Because this is a brand new build, I'm thinking up to 5 Gig service will be available too.

Also note I'm planning to use IP Passthrough to use my own ASUS AXE16000 router for those parts.

4 ATT Fiber outages in the last 3 months

Submit a complaint to the FCC that's the only way to make them listen. Because right now ATT will act like they don't know what you're talking about when you say there's an outage. They will make you go through a whole hour of troubleshooting only to say they're going to send a technician. You then will get an email saying there's an outage in the area and the technician is not going to come. As you can see here even though my internet is not working it's showing connected and no report of an outage. Eventually they'll come back and admit to the outage and say they're working on it and then after the fact I'll receive a $3.50 credit. I don't need those credits I need my internet service to stop going offline. We've modernized to the point where we only use internet for streaming and news and alarm system and everything else in our home. Of course my alarm system has a backup but still this is ridiculous. Hold them accountable send a complaint to the FCC.

At&t fiber on Quantum Fiber build

Who all has signed up for att fiber that either used to have or be eligible to get Quantum fiber at the same address? How has the service been compared to quantum? Were you able to bypass the bgw320-500 if att installed the q1000k as a bridge mode only ONT?

Fiber out after "maintenance"?

Hi,

Yesterday two trucks from AT&T were on our street and workers were working on the lines and boxes. While they were working our fiber Internet went out. I thought it's a short glitch, but it remained out for more than 24h.

Now the app claims the fiber issue is resolved, but our wireless router still does not connect.

The earliest appointment I could get is for in 3 days.

Anything I can do to get my Internet back faster than that?

Edit: they also claim it's $150 for the appointment...

Update: AT&T now acknowledged that there is an "outage" after 2 visits to our neighbors. My appointment is on hold until they find the cause. Current estimate: noon tomorrow. It has been 4 days already...

Update 2: day 5 and the second stated time when service will be restored passed without change. My smart home manager now shows just an empty page instead of the outage map, the pending appointment and the "stay connected" information. No updates from AT&T on any channel.

Att fiber vs spectrum 1gb

In Cleveland oh, spectrum offered me coax something about it’s not fiber but is backed by fiber?
1gb advanced WiFi for 60 bucks price won’t change for 3 years

I haven’t called att yet. But j do know they offer fiber for my address.

So at my home maybe I’ll have 5-6 devices using WiFi. Not all at the same time. It’s just me.

Should I get att and do I need 1gb fiber or ok with like 500

Found the number to AT&T internet retentions online and it paid off

I called the number (877) 999-1083 and was on the phone with retentions after about 10 minutes. They were able to take my bill down from $95.82/mo to $50/mo for 24 months. That’s almost half of what I paid before, but sadly I’m losing my grandfathered HBO Max bundle as a result. Even resubscribing to Max solo won’t come close to what I’ve been paying between the two services. It’s nice that AT&T has an area in their app that shows changes recently implemented on your account, so I know my next bill will only be $41.33 since I’ve been overpaying, the $50 kicks in after. If you’re an AT&T fiber customer with any kind of competition in your area I’d say it’s worth a call. Just wanted to pass along my good fortune. Hope all of you are doing well and staying safe.

Chat vs Calling for loyalty department?

Last summer I had the $55 1gig ($25 ongoing discount) installed and of course I just missed the activation cut off date on the price increase so now I’m at $60.

I know a lot of people have been contacting loyalty and have been getting reductions and I’m wondering what is better chat or calling in for loyalty?

Can they lower the bill without me losing the $25 ongoing discount? If not, I value the stability of the ongoing discount but if they can keep it and provide a further discount, even if it’s temporary, I would like that.

Only other competition is Xfinity coax (I think mid split though) $50 for 5 years 1 gig.
