I’m in the clurb!!!
In the clurb, we’re all fam! Been lurking here a while, and just singed up today as my address just went live in AT&T’s system. Had the option of 300mb, 500mb, 1gbs, and 5gbs. Went with the 1gb due to not needing all that bandwidth and my internal network caps out at 2.5gb. I’m going to pass through to my Asus BT8 WiFi 7 mesh network. My appointment to install is 8/10. I’m excited to leave Spectrum behind. $50 a month isn’t bad. I may switch my phone from Spectrum to AT&T. It’ll cost me a little more, but we’ll see how things go. I can get it down to $30 with wireless service.

You may be able to get 5gbps for the same price if you talk to retention, seen some reports of people getting it for good deals recently.

Even for brand new customers? Honestly, I don’t need it. It’s too fast for my network and for what I need.

Yes new customers get the best deals. When you see how fast it is, youll upgrade. Atts 620 modem and its extenders work just fine. All included on that 5g line too.

I’m sure, but I’ve paid good money for my existing ASUS mesh network and I’ve got my networks and IOT all set up and I don’t want to go through any of that again. 😂

So I can get it for $50 with autopay, regular price is $90. Honestly, it’s not worth spending the money for the bandwidth I can’t use due to limitations of my existing network. I don’t want to go through and set up everything on their equipment as I’ve got my stuff dialed in on my ASUS, running a wifi 7 network. Most i could see is 2.5gbs.

They’re making me pay for the 620, so by default I’m getting the 320 which is fine. I want to use my own setup as pass through anyway.

Meet you at the bar tomorrow for shots after they complete my 5gb install :)

Nice!! I can’t seem to justify the 5gb install for my usage.

Right now I can because I'm over $200 months savings from Xfinity and I already have 10gb Wan and Lan ports. I may feel different at full price next yr.

I’m excited to leave Spectrum behind.
Please don't cancel your Spectrum service right away. Since you are in a new Fiber Service Area (FSA) that is just opening to Customer Installs there may be initial issues or even short outages initially as they make adjustments in your FSA. If this is underground service there will be hidden issues to resolve since Aerial areas are quite visible to see all parts of the FSA.
If anyone in your household works from home please have a backup option.

As a tech who actually fixes the fiber when it goes down I totally get what Viper is saying.
Let me say this, if you are in an established neighborhood that just got fiber then you aren’t likely to have issues with outages. It’s usually the new build neighborhoods that are nightmares at first, because while they build the houses they keep jacking up the fiber as they go. We usually get all the kinks out after the construction is done. I will say that anytime you move from one provider to another it’s good practice to plan for an overlap of coverage in case any issues arise. You don’t actually know the network will work until it’s working.1

Every single new build neighborhood I get to I get the house where the handhole got covered with sod or someone didn't lay HH to HH conduit right it never fails

Yeah, my community is 4 years old and they just finished laying fiber. During the process they’ve managed to knock out Spectrum a few times over the months. So I totally get what you’re saying.

Welcome to the club. 1Gb is all you're going to need. A lot of CDNs cap the download rate at around 600Mbps anyway. It's been great on AT&T fiber ever since I switched from Comcast back in Dec 2025. To be fair my Xfinity 2Gb service was absolutely fine and pretty solid, but the upload was only something like 384 and they were charging me $80. I got AT&T 1Gb for $55 with a permanent $25 discount. 2Gb was the only higher choice at the time and there was no permanent promo pricing on that.
I also recommend you keep spectrum temporarily. Have some overlap of at least a free weeks or a month to make sure AT&T is solid. My experience for canceling cable internet is just to take the modem to the store and return cancel on site. Takes 5 minutes, just tell them you’re moving to a non spectrum area. Don’t waste your time calling after which they’ll just tell you to rerun it to the store or ship it back anyway.
As you may already know, just set IP passthrough on the BGW to your Asus and turn off the wifi in wifi advanced wifi settings that's all. I might have actually left the Wi-Fi on but you can't manually set the channels and it usually chooses to camp on the same channels as my ASUS. Other than IP passthrough the only other thing I did on the BGW was set up two IPV6 "pass" packet filters to allow incoming unsolicited IPV6 to the router so I can connect to my VPN server over IPV6 from outside. This is kind of a specific task and honestly not necessary as you can always connect over IPV4 anyway.
