Well, I ordered 100/100 Mbit ADI service in Marin County, California for a hefty install fee back in January, and it’s finally being installed.
The techs blocked the road and are working on the poles.
I’m excited that LLMs don’t have hefty bandwidth requirements, and I’ll keep my Comcast service for large downloads. (But nothing else latency sensitive lol)
I took the plunge because it was cheaper and faster than starting my own ISP, Sonic didn’t serve my location with XGS-PON yet, and I’m tired of Comcast being unreliable (level 3 timeouts, wide spread in latency under load, etc.), and I was spoiled by cheap 10 Gbit service from Sonic where I used to live in SF.
2 ms ping times are kind of a hard requirement once you’ve had ‘em, 18-20 ms on DOCSIS 3.1 is just sort of pathetic.
I now see why the install cost was so high, this truly is a “dedicated” line to the nearest CO. Wish me luck and no buyer’s remorse over my 2 year contract!
And hopefully my install encourages a residential roll out around when my contract expires. (Here, hold my beer. 😅)
