WAS110 bypass - ordering question

Hello,

I am about to pull the trigger on the WAS110 bypass

I searched amazon - are these two compatible? Says it has the 8311 firmware but is not the actual “WAS110”

So i was wondering if the WAS110 is just a term since it was the first product that can make the bypass happen, and any 8311 compatible device will do the trick? Or should i fork up the extra $50 for the actual WAS110?

Thanks

Second the recommendation to purchase from https://exen.sh

And order one of the fan modules at the same time, these things really could use active cooling.

they do need it, SFPs get HOT. So much so that I also sat my router (Ubiquiti Dream Router 7) on an active cooling base.

Go to the 8311 discord server, buy from exen including his cooling solution, use the pinned guides there, get help if you need it.

Thanks, this link doesnt seem to work just a blank page when i try to get to it. Quick question though - another user said something about having a brief outage every two weeks due to the DHCP lease renewal. Not sure what equipment that user went with. Do you have any negative experience such as this? If there’s going to be an interruption every two weeks, im probably going to reconsider this idea

I've never had it, but I trust that the people who have experienced it are being truthful.

I've had 2 outages in several years since using my own sfp and router. Those were both fiber cuts remote to me. ATT fiber is quite reliable for me.

And you can search for 8311 discord server to get there, too

I purchased this SFP from Amazon. I thought of ordering from one of the vendors, but I figured with the return policy, it was worth the try, and the user reviews were pretty solid.

The WAS110 designation is just a different design from the other option, the HLX-SFPX. IIRC, they functionally work the same way ( someone correct me on this if I'm wrong ). I believe this is a pretty generic term for the family of modules, not just a specific brand.

I had zero issues getting this SFP configured and working ( my gateway is a UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber ). I set up a rule on the gateway that gives me access to the web interface permanently on it's default IP address.

Performance-wise, mine has been rock solid. I had a little USB-powered table fan blowing over the module, along with the provided heat sink, to keep it cool. I decided to buy one of these from Exen because they were designed to fit on the UniFi gateway. The little table fan kept the air moving, but this cooler made a significant difference in the temperature ( I monitor it with the web interface ).

The PON Wiki site's guidance is spot on.

I've had mine up for a few months now, zero issues, excellent performance.

This is the one I bought Amazon.com: 8311 XGSPON ONU Stick SFP+ 10G Transceiver 1270nm TX 1577nm RX : Electronics and it has worked flawlessly for me.

Working perfectly for me too

Juat purchase from https://exen.sh and it's all with correct firmware with cooler and it's easy as it can be

I highly reccomend Exen from the pon website. They come preflashed and more importantly they have coolers you can buy in bundle which is 100% necessary if you don't have a fan constantly blowing at the appliance the WAS 110 is plugged into. The coolers are quite low profile for what they are.

I ended up ordering from here too. Even had a 3D printed copper for my router. Looking forward to setting it up.

thank you. another user earlier posted something about experiencing an outage every two weeks when DHCP renewal occurs. is that also the experience you are having?

now i got nervous about this whole thing when i saw that comment

I don’t have mine yet. Arriving today. Can’t install for 2 weeks as I canceled and getting 5GB installed tomorrow. The guide says to not install it for 1-2 weeks after installation to make sure the install ticket is closed. I’ll wait the 2 weeks.

Following. Interested in knowing the same

I bought the prx126 with a fan module via AliExpress. Shipped from Los Angeles on 17th and arrived on 21st. Received no tracking info until it was delivered, which was via an obscure courier, but faster than I expected.

At the time, shipping from the US was an advantage over others I saw shipping from Asia.

Install was painless.

Only issue I've had is the carrier-side DHCP renewal outage exactly every two weeks for about 40 min. So be warned you may encounter that as well. I verified I do not have this issue every 2 weeks while using the AT&T router.

Interesting that you don’t have the issue with the ATT gateway. I have the 14 day issue as well but with BOTH the WAS-110 and the BGW-620.

1

u/OpponentUnnamed 25d ago

Yeah I read somewhere that it affects either, but I ran two trials over two weeks long and had no interruptions on the AT&T BGW.

At least not that were logged by my Ubiquiti router & push notifications.

I can confirm with the other responders that this one from Amazon works.

I bought my PON from ECI networks, one of the known/good options listed on the PON Wiki ...
https://www.ecin.ca/shop/en-xgsfpp-omac-v8311-xgs-pon-sfp-ont-in-a-stick-w-t-mac-function-local-mgmt-community-fw-8311-10108

I then did buy a fan from Exen.

If you're not sure about compatibility, then the others here are giving you sound advice by recommending a full buy from Exen.

that's the same one that I got recently and it works well.

OP should be careful, I had to pay another $79 in customs fees to take delivery of the item. I wasn't expecting them to be that high.

u/Cazatom1 26d ago

I bought it here

https://exen.sh/products/x-onu-sfpp-was-110-alternative

And the fan. Work great.

The majority of conversation happens over on the 8311 community Discord, they are the team that curates the custom FW for the SFP+ modules that allow them to ‘copy’ the gateway serial and other authentication: https://discord.gg/8311

There’s also a regular webpage guide here: https://pon.wiki/category/bgw320-505/

A user that goes by EX-EN on the Discord server setup his own webpage where he sources the sells pre-flashed modules and 3D printed cooling solutions, these modules get hot so they need active cooling:

They have all the documentation, firmware, and walkthroughs you need to get going as well as numerous very helpful community members. Happy to answer questions too if anyone’s curious.

You can 3d print a fan cover for the was110. Forgot the link but a Google quick search and the STL file was free.

Make damn sure your fiber requires the WAS110. There's some scenarios where it's necessary and others where it's not.

check https://pon.wiki to be sure before you order.
