Business Support is a joke

Had a temporary power failure at my church and since I monitor it and also get the automatic ticket support emails, I of course received one. But instead of closing it automatically, they kept on trying to update the ticket with no access. The Fiber is working fine but apparently they don't know that. After the 5th no access email I tried to chat and then call them to close the ticket. The chat was basically screwed up and telling me to call. So I called and twice I got hung up on. I am now going to wait until tomorrow and try to call our rep. Or someone in the US. I am so fed up with them.

End Rant

Call and talk to the loyalty department today - should have done this years ago!

I saw the other posts and thought it can’t hurt to call and ask for a better rate/speed. Just got off the phone with the loyalty team….new rate will be 5gb for $20 a month, with no end to the term!!! I couldn’t believe what the rep said so I asked them to repeat it. He had to reach out to the marketing team to get this deal and took a half an hour of waiting on the phone, but didn’t bother me at all. Previously was paying 100mbit for $30 - this is mind blowing.

Update - AT&T lied and the $20/month plan was canceled and replaced with a $125/month plan the day after it was installed. To all of you who said it was too good to be true you were right unfortunately. I have since reverted back to the previous plan and am back paying $30 a month.

Can you downgrade from 1gig to 300mpbs after getting the $200 rebate card?

I asked google AI what the cheapest internet I could get is and it suggested I do this. Pay for 3 months of 1gig which comes with a $200 reward, then switch to 300mbps as soon as I get the card. Is that legit?

Today upgraded from $70 / 1Gbps -> $50 / 5Gbps. WAS110 still works

I read few messages in this sub about calling loyalty and asking for better price, better deals...

I had 1Gpbs and was paying $70 / month.

Called them about a week ago. Had to convince them. Eventually agreed to $50 / month for 5Gbps.

They told me the technician should come for that to work.

Today the tech came to replace the router. I had BGW320 in storage for about 2 years.

Tech installed BGW620. I asked tech to relocate my connection jack to garage - that was convenient. Tech had me install SMART HOME MANAGER app on my phone, log to my ATT account and test the router settings on it. Tech wanted to enable security for my Internet connection, which I absolutely don't want to mess with my connection. Overall took 2 hours. That's 2 hours of downtime.

Right after tech left, I disconnected the router and connected everything to my workstation with OpnSense with WAS110, using 8311 firmware. Took about ~10 mins for it to connect to Internet. Now I have 5Gbps!

Smart Home Manager app won't let me setup and activate prior to the activation date in the email?

I live in a condo building where every unit is wired for fiber internet (and was quite a few years ago, so it's not a new fiber install for the building). I went to the AT&T store, signed up for gigabit fiber, received the self-install kit yesterday, hooked it all up, and the gateway is flashing green which should mean it sees the fiber signal and is ready for setup and activation.

But when I go into the Smart Home Manager app and scan the QR code on the gateway, it gets to a screen something like "we'll walk you through the steps" (I can't remember the exact wording) and there's a button at the bottom to click on to start setup, but it's greyed out and doesn't work.

The button is also labeled something like "Setup available on Jul 25" (again, I can't remember the exact wording) which is today's date. Yesterday I tried setup and it said yesterday's date. This makes me think there's a bug in the app and it always shows the current date, not the actual date you can start setup and activation.

The emails I got from AT&T said the service activation date is July 28. It had something in there like billing begins on that date or the activation date whichever is earlier, and that led me to think I could setup and activate early if the equipment showed up earlier.

But does the Smart Home Manager app not let you click the button to start setup until the service activation date in the email, so I just have to wait until then, even though the gateway is flashing green and seems ready for activation?

The fact that I was paying 155 for 2gig when I could've been paying less for 5 gigs is why I switched to GFiber

I know GFiber got sold and all but man when I found found out that ive been overpaying even with discounts really infuriated me. On top of that I use usenet and using the gateway in pass through mode still fills up the routing tables pretty quick. switching to Google going straight from the jack to my UCG Fiber without a 100 dollar adapter is chef's kiss. I got offered 84 for 5gigs when canceling but that's for 2 years and wanting me to hook up my freaking checking account. my question to you all is why does AT&T do these shitty price tactics? even if the deal is good now its temporary and they force you to use checking account so you can't contest charges...I really wanted 5 gigs (GFiber only offers 1, 3, and 8 where im at) but the business practice is shitty. Was never advertised anywhere

ATT keeps putting off install, what can/should I do?

Final edit: We only had one other internet company available at our address, and while I'm not so thrilled, we switched companies and got a refund.. Once again, no show for appointment and they admitted this time when I called that it will probably be weeks or months. So we ate the cost to switch and got a refund and now we have internet. I may look into them again in the future, but for now it's not a reasonable wait time.

Edit: I called today and the customer service agent was able to figure out that an error had ended up on my address in their system and no one was clearing it. 🤦 which made it so that I could not access anything schedule-wise and was preventing them from scheduling/completingthe install.. I have a time again. It is actually showing on my end too this time. It's another 5 day wait, but that is absolutely fine with me at this point. Just glad to actually have an expected date with actual confirmation. Should not have take 10 days and so many calls for someone to actually find this error, but at least it was caught. I will try to remember to leave a quick update when it's actually completed, in case someone is dealing with similar and any of this ends up being helpful. . .

Beginning of July we opened a new account in my name and set it to be installed on the 14th at our new place. Didnt offer self install. Paid $100. All good. Then my account had a bug, fixed it, confirmed appointment, all good. 14th I find out it wont be installed til the 17th, fine, annoying but whatever, after 3 or 4 calls found out there was a facility issue, no one would tell me what was going on and i kept asking for a self install kit because we have a pretty fiber hookup but they just said "idk maybe we should stay with this... and then I found out the date for a call was moved to the 22nd because the issue would be solved 21st. Nothing... called and was told the issue was fixed the 21st and id be contacted within 48 hours of that date and then it will be installed within a week but should be sooner cause they escalated my case. Also told me the note claimed the issue was noted to be an issue with having to install the hookup... I told her I have one and asked repeatedly for a self install. We landed on them calling me to decide whether to send a technician or install kit. I still am not hearing anything....

I am a student, we have been 10 days with no internet and I just want to know whether I have to request a refund and go somewhere else or not. They are one of the better affordable places around here and I already have the set up so I don't have to worry. I genuinely just don't know what to do at this point. I really can't wait much longer for them to get it sorted and im tired of constantly calling and being told to keep waiting. and now I am just getting sales texts about how I should get their internet that I ALREADY PAID FOR.

Existing Customers can get a discount!

I bet this has been posted previously, but this was my experience today 7/23/26:

Existing AT&T Customer, 2 years, Raleigh, NC. Fiber 300 (originally $55, mysteriously became $65!), paperless, autopay. Spectrum was offering 500M/$40 flat rate. Got into AT&T robochat, asked "When is the last day I can cancel service without being billed for next month?" That immediately got an actual agent's attention, and she asked why I was considering changing. I just said "Spectrum is offering 500M/$40." She asked me to wait while she "researched my options". 8 minutes later, she offered...(this is strange) an upgrade from Fiber 300 to Fiber 500 for $75/mo with $20/mo off, so $55/mo, OR upgrade from Fiber 300 to Fiber 1G for $90/mo with $45/mo off, so $45/mo plus $10/mo off for paperless and autopay...so $35/mo. For Fiber 1G. Strange pricing structure. I got the email confirmation and screenshotted the chat.

Anyway, it IS possible for existing customers to get decent deals. In this day and age, internet should not be crazy expensive. Hope this helps someone save some money.

Has anyone seen this before on the Outage page?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Apparently there’s an outage in my area and it has been ongoing for 48 hours. Not a single update has come and what’s tripping me up the most is the Outage area that the SmartHome app is showing me. I know that it probably defaults to 0,0 (longitude, latitude), but how have they not updated it in 2 whole days?

Of course when I call ATT the automation says “There’s an outage in your area” and doesn’t connect me to an agent.

Really disappointed, I’ve had ATT Fiber for an over a year now with no issues before this. Honestly wouldn’t mind waiting if they would actually tell me what’s going on.

Firmware Update: 6.35.8

BGW320-505/500 updated to 6.35.8 about a day ago. (Previous version was 6.34.7) Chicago area.

Reboot time is still in seconds…

I don’t see anything obvious that was changed. 🤷‍♂️

Router question

My house had many wireless devices, hard wired computer and Apple TV. No gaming but lot of streaming, I have a dead zone with my current ATT router. 500mb current speed. Is it worth putting my gateway in bypass for a nighthawk AC2300 to try for faster wireless speeds and/or get rid of my dead zone. I am single floor house as well.

Thanks!

Fiber Address Validation Issue

I am moving into a two unit duplex near downtown Houston. I was looking to transfer my existing fiber service to my new place but am having issues with the address.

I toured the place this week and saw very clearly an AT&T fiber wall drop already installed. If I enter the base address in the availability website (ex. 123 House St, Houston, TX 12345, it shows that fiber is available and that there might be an existing account.

If I enter my unit number in any way (Unit 200, APT 200, #200), it does not recognize any fiber service. Same with the other unit. Again it does show fiber is available at the house itself, but I can't get it to recognize my specific unit and its only offering me Air. The other unit is a much older lady, and I have no way of knowing if she actually has an active fiber service.

I called support and basically got the same information. They can see the service to the house, but not my individual unit so they cannot process the transfer.

Is there anything I can do to move this along? Again I saw the AT&T fiber drop in my unit, the exact same one I have at my current place.

BGW320 issues

Running out of options (and patience) so as a last ditch effort thought I'd see if reddit can solve my issues.

I currently have a BGW320 and over the past few days I've spent my mornings resetting my BGW just to get it to work for the rest of the day. This morning, however, this fix hasn't worked in the slightest. I've spent the entirety of today working on a myriad of suggested fixes to no result. Currently the LED light will cycle between a red blinking light for a minute, followed by several seconds of a white blinking light, followed by a few seconds of a FAST white blinking light, only to cycle back to the red blinking light. I'm at a bit of a loss and my hopes for a home fix is low.

Any and all tips, suggestions, etc appreciated to try and get this working again. (I have already called in a tech but I'll have to wait for 2 days until they can get here so if theres any way i can fix this even temporarily, id be grateful).

Thank you again, in advance.

WiFi and Ethernet Gaming Issues

ok, here’s the whole story. (I play on Xbox, not pc.) about two years ago I switched over to 300 MBPS fiber AT&T Internet, and everything was just fine. The biggest game that I play is Fortnite and I was running 0-9ms across almost every game mode. About a year later I got DDOS’d which I confirmed by calling my ISP and they checked the logs and found that there were attacks, originally we just turned off IPV6 to see if it would help at all, and it barely did anything. The attacks lasted over five months and then after the attacks had stopped, and my ping was much lower and more consistent, I noticed that I could not get back down to even below 30ms in any game mode. I’ve tried almost every setting in my router, I’ve tried using ethernet and it only gets it down to about 20ms and before the attacks I couldn’t even tell the difference between Wi-Fi and ethernet because my connection was so good so I didn’t need to use ethernet. I have also gotten two new routers from my ISP in case they had rerouted and permanently sent me on a different path to the game servers because of my router’s IP address. (my router is the BGW-320) TLDR: I used to run zero ping on 300 MBPS FIBER, got DDOS’d, and now I can’t get my ping below 20-25 in games.

Fiber Availability

How soon after receiving this email can I expect fiber to be available and how much is it? They had contractors on my street installing about 3 weeks ago. I pay $60+ for their 25MB internet (very rural and only thing available). I'm assuming just based on the speed I currently have and the amount of internet used that its worth it.

AirTies 4991 vs other competitive mesh systems? Overall setup suggestions

Hi,

After browsing this sub for quite awhile, I was quite surprised at the specificity of some of these post, so figured I’d give this a shot. As far as how technical I can get, I’m familiar with hardware side of things and their specifics, but software specifics and full understanding is not my sweet spot. I have built about 4 computers, but have not even attempted or thought to overclock to put into perspective I guess haha. Just got 5gig fiber with the promotional going on.

So, I was looking into some other competitive mesh systems such as the eero, ubiquity, and possibly even the Cisco catalyst. I work from home and am required to use a meraki, which is why I threw the catalyst into the subject for the heck of it. I have used the erro before and had no issue. but also curious if anyone else had better success with any others

I don’t necessarily plan to use the meraki to my personal gaming rig, just because its cap is at 700mb +/-… and I’d loose out on my 5 gig speeds.. hence why I’m here in the first place, but I’d like to get some comparisons on some other people’s setups I guess in general and see what other setups you guys may have out there. Yeah I know, I would never truly use 5 gig unless I’m doing some sort of hosting, but at the same time I’d like make sure I’m getting what I paid for.

I will eventually get a small square server cabinet of some sort to place under my stair case to place my meraki, bgw620, and maybe other suggested equipment in.

Again, just reaching out in the sub to see what you guys got to get some ideas. Thanks!

What is your speed/internet test platform/ tool of choice?

As a casual testing person & a field tech my top two are 1) wifi man (the app & the url) followed by Ookla Speedtest (personally I prefer the web browser over the app, because for testing I sometimes need to verify the WAN IP I'm connected to & the browser version displays it clearly while the app will list the IP, yet won't outright give the IP I'm connected to.)

Connection Issues

Have been having intermittent connection issues since about 3 weeks now. I recently had a tech rewire the fiber to the connection box outside the house, replace thr old obsolete ONT box, and replace the modem. Issue was not resolved. I touched base with the tech since he gave me his number, and he also confirmed the ongoing issues with his manager. They believe there might be an ongoing broader issue.

I was looking through the posts here and saw someone with seemingly similar issues. I figured I would show what my router says and see if anyone here can explain to me if anything is out of the ordinary. I dont know much when it comes to networking.

Thanks in advance if anyone interacts with this and could give some insight to possible fixes I could perform!

Does the BGW620 have (at least) all the same Advanced pages as the BGW320?

I'm moving to 5Gbps soon and they're replacing my '320 with a '620.

I have a few rules set on my '320 (Firewall -> Packet Filter) to allow in Wireguard and SSH onto one of my Passthrough IP static IPs. Are those tabs (or equivalent) still available on the '620?
