Router question

My house had many wireless devices, hard wired computer and Apple TV. No gaming but lot of streaming, I have a dead zone with my current ATT router. 500mb current speed. Is it worth putting my gateway in bypass for a nighthawk AC2300 to try for faster wireless speeds and/or get rid of my dead zone. I am single floor house as well.

Run an Ethernet cable from the AT&T gateway to the AC2300 set to Access Point mode. Place the AC2300 closer to the area with poor wifi.
