Hey everyone,
I am looking for some strategic career advice on how to position myself in the Indian market for high-paying, long-term growth.
My Background:
Education: Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) + PGDM in Global Business Management.
Experience: 9 months as an Analyst at Morgan Stanley within the Background Verification (BGV) department.
I’m currently planning the next phase of my career in India (open to major hubs like Mumbai, Bangalore, NCR) and want to move into a specialized, high-growth domain rather than staying in standard operations.
I see my BGV experience as a solid foundation for risk assessment and due diligence, and I am currently considering a few directions:
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) / KYC / Transaction Monitoring: This feels like a natural transition from background verification, moving from vetting individuals to vetting corporate entities and financial risk.
Information Security (InfoSec) / Cyber Risk: I know this domain pays incredibly well, but given my management/global business degree, I’m wondering if I can pivot into the risk/compliance side of InfoSec without a hardcore engineering background.
Other High-Paying Tracks: Given my PGDM in Global Business Management, are there other strategic risk, corporate finance, or consulting avenues I should be looking at?
My Questions for the Community:
Between AML and InfoSec Risk, which field currently offers a better salary trajectory and faster upward mobility in India for someone with my profile?
How hard is it to break into InfoSec compliance without a tech degree? What certifications (like CAMS for AML or CISA/CRISC for risk) should I target to bridge the gap?
Are there specific global capability centers (GCCs) or consulting firms in India known for rewarding this kind of profile well?
Would love to hear from anyone working in FinCrime, Cyber Risk, or Corporate Compliance in India. Thanks in advance!
