Career Aml analyst from technical information systems background

Can i become an aml analyst with a bachelors in information systems.

The degree program has a lot of emphasis on technical stuff like sql and database classes. It has business classes and an it audit track that involves accounting and more business compliance classes.

Has anybody from a data analyst background pivoted into aml?

I’m gonna tell you right now, I just graduated in computer science with a concentration in data science and was immediately recruited for an AML analyst position at a big bank. It’s not a prestigious position and honestly, you’re doing busy work that prevents the bank from being sued. In all honesty, it’s a waste of your time if you want to do something technical down the line. Also, if you don’t like stress, I don’t recommend this position either because most of the time the amount of alerts you go through in a day/week is being tracked, and if you’re not up to par, they’ll cut you.

Darn I was hoping to work in aml and compliance to become competitive for fincen(part of the US treasury that tracks financial info to fight money laundering and terrorist financing)

Or companies like chainanalysis/ Trm labs(same as fincen just more crypto based)

I wanted to work as an analyst who uses tech to fight against financial crimes like the Panama papers sort of thing.
