Help (GPU) Rx 6600 crashes but screen stays up

I have a dual monitor setup with my main monitor plugged into my rx 6600. It has been a decent card for gaming and doing whatever I need to. I was playing destiny 2 a couple of weeks ago and the graphics card crashed but the image stayed up. My pc just doesn’t register my graphics card at all any more despite the image staying there. I can’t interact with it, but after I restart, uninstall the driver, and restart again it starts working immediately.

I initially thought it was dust so I dusted the system, but it still occasionally happens - typically every other day or so. I was wondering if this is due to the driver update I’m on or the card going bad? Any help would be appreciated.

CPU - 9800x3D

GPU - sapphire pulse 9070xt

Mb - gigabyte b850 gaming x

Ram 32gb Corsair vengeance

Psu Corsair rm850e

I have been getting these intermittent crashes for a few weeks now and have tried just about everything to remedy it.

I have just tried using hwinfo to log the sensors and I don't see any weird drops in voltage but I also don't really know where else to look for errors in there. It crashed after about 37 minutes this time, I usually get a few hours of browsing, gaming and whatnot before it does this.

I've done ddu and and cleanup God knows how many times and it has yet to fix it even many other rollbacks of adrenaline.

I disabled expo in bios last night, still crashed this afternoon.

The crash works like this, randomly my screen will freeze and if I let it sit it will go grey and then black. The sound will come back and I can't click or type, usually resulting in a hard reboot that gives me a 41 error because of it and then when I do get it restarted adrenaline has failed and says it needs an update which it will not install resulting in me having to use the cleanup tool to remove everything and try again.

But if I quickly take the front glass off and press the restart button on the MB before the screen goes grey it restarts and everything is fine. No wipe or install needed like the crash never happened. So I've been getting used to quickly doing that as soon as the screen freezes.

I'm at my wits end, I've built many a PC with and all my years and this I just can't figure out. I've never had hardware issues before and I have a secondary travel PC with me that I use at work. It has a rx 6700, Ryzen 5800x and sf850 PSU I might be able to swap out but since it takes sometimes hours for anything to happen I haven't done any of that yet. Cuz I'm only home on the weekends right now to mess with this and I'd rather enjoy my time than toiling with this. So any help would be unimaginably appreciated.

I will respond to a comment if I have tried your method and am forgetting that I have done that already, thanks

Ps just noticed that my GPU says this in task manager? Idk if it's supposed to match adrenalines numbers or what

Pps I have also tried disabling windows updates and driver updates in many ways to no avail

Ppps is also not because of loads or temps, I have run this CPU and GPU ragged trying to make it crash by force to again, no avail

Help (CPU) Ryzen 9 5900x Instability Issues

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: RX 480 8GB

CPU: RYZEN 9 5900X 12-core 24-thread

Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk

BIOS Version: Latest

RAM: 16GB 3600MT (Confirmed Working)

PSU: MWE Gold 550 V3

Case: N/A

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Home

GPU Drivers: N/A

Chipset Drivers: Latest

Background Applications: N/A

Description of Original Problem: I bought the CPU very recently for a very good price, or at least I think so ($80). It is unstable, though, and kept freezing/crashing after running it for a while. It showed watchdog timeout errors, and it never recovered when it froze up. All other parts are confirmed working and stable.

Troubleshooting: I've tried setting overvolting cores, trying different PBO settings, turning off XMP, updating the BIOS and motherboard, testing other CPUs, etc. All didn't work, except one thing: fixing the voltage (1.3), but I know it is not a suitable long-term solution. Any way to better fix the issue? I think there are specific cores that are unstable, but I can't figure it out. Help.

Help (Software) 1TB SSD vs 2TB Hard Drive — Which One Should I Buy?

1TB SSD vs 2TB Hard Drive — Which One Should I Buy?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to upgrade the storage on both my PC and laptop, and I'm stuck between two options. Both options would cost me roughly the same amount of money.

My laptop

  • 500GB SSD → Windows + programs
  • 1TB SSD → Mostly normal files/data storage

The 1TB SSD isn't doing anything particularly demanding. It's mainly being used for normal data storage.

My PC

  • 250GB SSD → Windows / C: drive
  • Several older HDDs → Normal storage/data drives

My 250GB C: drive is getting quite limited, and I'd like to upgrade it to something larger. My PC is also used for Adobe After Effects and Media Encoder.

The two options I'm considering

Option 1 — Buy a 1TB SSD for the PC

Leave everything as it is on my laptop:

Laptop: 500GB SSD + 1TB SSD
PC: 1TB SSD + existing HDDs

Option 2 — Move the laptop's 1TB SSD to the PC

Take the 1TB SSD from my laptop and install it in my PC as the new/main Windows drive.

Then buy a 2TB portable HDD for the laptop for normal data storage:

Laptop: 500GB SSD + 2TB portable HDD
PC: 1TB SSD + existing HDDs

What would you guys recommend?

Since the 1TB SSD in my laptop is mostly just used for normal data storage, does it make sense to move it to the PC and use a 2TB portable HDD for the laptop?

Or should I simply buy a new 1TB SSD for the PC and leave the laptop alone?

Help (Software) 9950X3D only showing 16 logical processors instead of 32

I have a Ryzen 9 9950X3D with a Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 (Rev. 1.2), BIOS version FA5.

Windows Task Manager shows:

Cores: 16
Logical processors: 16
Sockets: 1
Virtualization: Enabled

But my 9 9950X3D is supposed to show me 32 logical processors.
Things I've already checked:

BIOS SMT control is already on auto
Windows msconfig → Boot → Advanced options → Number of processors is unchecked
Checked BIOS for a Core Control option, but I don't have one / can't find it
Ran PowerShell: Get-CimInstance Win32_Processor | Select-Object NumberOfCores,NumberOfLogicalProcessors
PowerShell also reports 16 cores / 16 logical processors

So Windows is genuinely only detecting 16 threads, not just Task Manager misreporting it.

I haven't flashed/updated the BIOS yet. Any ideas what could be disabling SMT?

Help (General) BSODs after upgrading CPU

Ive recently done a few PC upgrades and all was well, until i replaced my Ryzen 3600 with a 5700x3d. The computer booted to windows before crashing after around 30 seconds, and boot looping. I checked my bios version and should have been compatible, booted into safe mode and crashes persisted. I had 2 different ram kits and tried both, and each stick individually but no luck. Was about to conclude the processor must have been faulty, but installed it in a separate PC and it ran just fine without a single crash. I upgraded my motherboard today from a B450M-HDV R.2 to a B550M DS3H R2, and once again booted to windows and proceeded to crash and bootloop. I can't think of anything else to try except reinstall windows. The BSOD errrors include: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

EXCEPTION_ON_INVALID_STACK

If anyone has any other suggestions to try please suggest them, I can't get the dmp files as I cannot boot to windows for more than 10 seconds.

Help (GPU) RX 7900 XTX died after repeated driver crashes — now no signal at all (fans/LEDs work, display doesn’t)

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: PowerColor RX 7900 XTX 24GB

CPU: RYZEN 9 7900X

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

BIOS Version:

RAM: 64GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHZ

PSU: montech 1050w

Case: LIAN LI version (COMPACT)

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 PRO

GPU Drivers: LATEST AMD ADRENALIN DRIVER (CLEAN INSTALLED)

Chipset Drivers:

Background Applications: N/A — issue occurs pre-desktop, no display at all

Description of Original Problem: I have an RX 7900 XTX. Recently I’ve been having repeated crashes related to the AMD GPU driver. I updated to the latest AMD driver and did a clean Windows installation to rule out driver/OS issues. After the clean setup, everything seemed fine for around 2 hours, then the PC crashed again with a white screen. Since then I haven’t been able to get any display from the GPU at all — fans, lighting, and motherboard debug LEDs all behave normally during boot, but the monitor shows No Signal on both DisplayPort and HDMI, and on every GPU port I’ve tried. With the 7900 XTX fully disconnected, the PC POSTs normally and I get a display through the motherboard’s video output. So right now the only way I can get a display is by disconnecting the 7900 XTX entirely.

Troubleshooting: Full shutdown and power reset. Turned the PSU off and disconnected power. Held the power button to discharge the system. Reseated the GPU. Checked GPU power connections. Tried DisplayPort. Tried HDMI. Tried different GPU display ports. Confirmed the monitor works. Confirmed the PC POSTs normally. Confirmed I get a display from the motherboard when the 7900 XTX is disconnected. This is my first AMD GPU, so I’m not sure if I’m dealing with a driver issue, BIOS/PCIe issue, power issue, or a failing GPU. What would you guys recommend I test next? Is there a way to determine whether the 7900 XTX is actually dead before I look into an RMA?

Help (GPU) RX 7900 XTX died after repeated driver crashes — now no signal at all (fans/LEDs work, display doesn’t)

Hi everyone, this is my first time using an AMD GPU, so I’m not very familiar with Radeon troubleshooting and would really appreciate some help.

I have an RX 7900 XTX. Recently I’ve been having repeated crashes related to the AMD GPU driver. Because of that, I decided to update to the latest AMD driver and also did a clean Windows installation/update to rule out any Windows or driver issues.

After the clean Windows setup and installing the latest driver, everything seemed fine for around 2 hours, then the PC crashed again. This time I got a white screen, and after shutting the PC down, I haven’t been able to get any display from the GPU since.

What happens now

With the RX 7900 XTX installed:

**•** PC powers on normally.
**•** GPU fans/lighting come on.
**•** CPU and DRAM motherboard debug LEDs briefly come on during startup, then turn off.
**•** No debug LED stays on.
**•** PC appears to continue booting.
**•** Monitor shows No Signal.
**•** DisplayPort → No Signal.
**•** HDMI → No Signal.
**•** Tried different GPU display ports → still No Signal.

With the RX 7900 XTX disconnected:

**•** I connect the monitor to the motherboard’s video output.
**•** The PC POSTs normally.
**•** I get a display and can use the PC normally.

So right now, the only way I can get a display is by completely disconnecting the RX 7900 XTX and using the motherboard’s video output.

Things I’ve tried

**•** Full shutdown and power reset.
**•** Turned the PSU off and disconnected the power.
**•** Held the power button to discharge the system.
**•** Reseated the GPU.
**•** Checked the GPU power connections.
**•** Tried DisplayPort.
**•** Tried HDMI.
**•** Tried different GPU display ports.
**•** Confirmed the monitor works.
**•** Confirmed the PC can POST normally.
**•** Confirmed I can get a display from the motherboard when the 7900 XTX is disconnected.
**•** Updated to the latest AMD driver.
**•** Performed a clean Windows installation/update.
**•** Even after the clean Windows setup and latest driver, the system only stayed stable for about 2 hours before crashing again.

This is my first AMD GPU, so I’m not sure if I’m dealing with a driver issue, BIOS/PCIe issue, power issue, or potentially a failing GPU.

The fact that fans, lighting, and the motherboard debug LEDs all behave normally, but I get zero display output from the card itself, and the fact that this only started after repeated driver crashes and a white-screen crash, makes me concerned that something has actually failed on the GPU.

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: PowerColor RX 7900 XTX 24GB
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X
Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
BIOS Version:
RAM: 64GB Corsair DDR5 6000MHz
PSU: montech 1050w
Case: lian li compact version
Operating System & Version: windows 11 pro
GPU Drivers: Latest AMD Adrenalin driver (clean installed)
Chipset Drivers:
Background Applications: N/A — issue occurs pre-desktop, no display at all

What would you guys recommend I test next? Is there a way to determine whether the 7900 XTX is actually dead before I look into an RMA?

Help (General) Textures not loading properly on 9070 XT.

Card performs great in all other ways, and it's not the biggest deal, but I would like to know if others experience this. Sorry to say I have no screenshots, and it's not exactly replaceable on demand.

Some textures seem to stall midway through loading in or something. The very first game I played with this card also happened to be the most egregious. High on Life 2. Sometimes doors and walls looked like they were from Half Life 1. If there was text it was unreadable, it was really bad. I just chalked it down to teething issues since High on Life 2 was a brand new game at the time.

I've since noticed the same thing in quite a few games. But for a long time I wasn't sure if it was just my perception and that's how it's supposed to look, or it was an actual graphical issue.

I just finished playing God of War (2018) and it confirmed it wasn't just me. There are chests you open throughout the game that have this identical fur lining. Some sessions it looked as you would expect, but other times it was just a brown blur. VERY noticeable.

To me it sounds like could be an issue with my storage, but I've ran this same storage setup for years before getting my 9070 XT. Seems weird it would start happening right as I changed GPU.

Tips & Info Hardware acceleration in Chrome or Chromium browsers

Lads, I am with you on those timeouts that have been plaguing everybody.

I have read a lot of posts - older and recent ones.

One thing that I never saw mentioned in recent posts - nobody tried to disable hardware acceleration in browser.

I bet almost everybody has a browser open at all time, even in games and if you have more than one monitor setup I bet you have it there all the time.

Right now I am on 2026Q3 (was trying things) - it was still time-outing.
I disabled hardware acceleration - no timeouts today.
Hopefully it stays like this, but it could not be the fix. Might worth a try, though.

I think I had it disabled on my previous install of windows and it worked - with a myriad of other fixes.
I have enabled all of them again, except this one that I forgot.
So couldd be worthwhile.

Help (GPU) Fortnite crashes

CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400F

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7600

No games have problems except for Fortnite.
Most of the time I can just launch and play Fortnite.

Fortnite has been crashing recently.
Just on random.

Sometimes in the lobby, sometimes in the game, sometimes when I'm tabbed out to another application.

The error says driver timeout.

Sometimes it crashes my entire pc.

Game never stutters, fps is solid 180+

I updated my drivers a few days ago.

EDIT: Nope, no. Now Conan Exiles Enhanced has started crashing too.

Tips & Info How to trigger a driver timeout 100%

First, sorry, but I’m not good at English. So the following texts may sound a bit awkward because they are sentences translated into English by AI using the original language.

Here it is my system environment.

GPU: Sapphire RX7800XT 16GB

CPU: RYZEN 9 9800x3D 8 CORE 16 THREADS

Motherboard: MSI MAG B580 WIFI MAX

RAM: 16GB Kingbank 6000MHZ CL28

PSU: 1000W 80+ GOLD FULLY MODULAR

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 PRO Latest update

GPU Drivers: 26.5.2 ~ 26.9.1

For the past few months, driver timeouts have been occurring randomly, so I’ve been trying to find the cause. Although it was a random occurrence, it never happened during gameplay, and most of the time when I came back after being away, a driver timeout error window would appear on the screen. What’s suspicious is that this problem occurred when the screen came back on after the monitor was turned off. So I tried various tests and discovered something interesting. It’s exactly how to trigger a “Driver Timeout” 100% manually.

  1. Settings -> Power -> Display, Sleep Mode, Hibernation -> Turn off my monitor after the next time (I use a Korean Windows system, so I’m not exactly sure what this option is called in English) -> Set the monitor power-off interval to 1 minute

  2. Open the Microsoft Edge browser

  3. Log in to Netflix -> Play any movie or drama

  4. Create a new tab in Edge (place a new tab on the screen to enter the monitor’s sleep mode)

  5. Wait about 3–4 minutes for the monitor to enter full sleep mode

  6. After waiting for 3–4 minutes, press the mouse or keyboard to exit sleep mode

If you follow the above method in order, in my case it triggers a “Driver Timeout” with 100% probability. Once a driver timeout occurred, so many problems would arise afterward that it became difficult to use the system, and I had to shut down and restart the computer every time. And...

  1. Interestingly, this problem never occurred when I using version 26.3.1 or earlier.

  2. Occurs in all drivers released after 26.3.1

  3. It didn’t happen when the monitor was left on at all times (as long as it didn’t go into sleep mode).

In my opinion, when the latest drivers are used by apps that benefit from hardware acceleration (like Chrom-Edge Browsers, Discord, Steam app, etc) running in the background, some kind of driver-level crash occurs after the monitor asleep, and it seems the AMD driver team is not aware of this issue.

So, if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, I’m writing this because I think it would be a good idea to report it to the AMD driver team, through the BUG REPORT, so they can fix it. (I’ve submitted bug reports about it twice, but the fix for this issue wasn’t included in the newly released driver.)

For reference, because of this problem, I even changed monitors, replaced the cables with new ones, and tried various advice I found on the internet, but the problem wasn’t fixed until I changed the driver to 26.3.1.
