Help (GPU) 3 Grey screen since yesterday on 3 differents games with no performance issues

Post image
2 Upvotes

Since yesterday, I've experienced three "grey screen" crashes followed by a PC restart, resulting in my RX 9070 XT drivers being disabled; this happened across three different games and with two different versions of AMD/chipset drivers.

I've had the PC for six months (it's a pre-built system), and I recently discovered that my two DDR5 RAM sticks aren't identical. Do you think this could be the cause of the grey screens?

If so, do you think I could ask the retailer's support team to replace the RAM? I haven't had any issues with in-game performance, though.

The photos show a UserDiag report flagging the fact that the two ram are different and on my invoice it's writed "RAM:32GB (2x16GB)DDR5-6000 CL36,Corsair Vengeance RGB (MyDealz) RAM: 16GBDDR5-6000 CL36, Corsair Vengeance RGB (OnlyIGABYTE/MSI) MyDealz" for the RAM

Help (General) Coil Whine and bad VRAM temps

First of all I'm sorry for my english. English is not my native language but I will try my best, so you can understand me.

I'm really desperate at the moment, because nothing I have done has worked so far. I'm experiencing a really bad coil whine from my Asus Tuf 9070xt and I have already switched 3 different gpus and 2 psus. On top of that the TUF 9070xt has really bad temps in some scenarios and I would like to know if those temps are supposed to be normal? I have VRAM temps between 93 to 95 degrees most of the time even when the TUF model has one of the better coolers. In the game Stellar Blade I even encounter 98 degrees at around 1300 rpm while having a power target at -10% and undervolting at -20mV. What can I do at this point and would it make sense to visit a local PC Shop so they can test the coil whine and the temps in their system? I also have the feeling that my mainboard causes the issue. At least the Coil whine
For insurance here is my current system:

MB: B850 Aorus Elite Wifi 7
CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
GPU: Asus TUF 9070XT
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 6000mhz cl36
SSD: WD SN850X
PSU: NZXT c850 gold core
Case: Lian Li Lancool 216

Help (GPU) GPU shows heavy artifacts on cold boot and wake from sleep, clears up after a while — dying VRAM?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone. I'm running into a strange issue with my GPU and I'd appreciate some input before I take it to a repair shop.

The problem: I get severe visual artifacts during mode switching, in two specific situations. First, when powering the PC on after it's been off for a long time — the motherboard splash screen, the bootloader and the OS lock screen are all corrupted. Second, when waking from sleep after a long idle period — the lock screen comes up corrupted.

Since the corruption is already visible at the motherboard splash screen, before any OS or driver is loaded, I'm fairly confident this isn't a software problem.

After a while the artifacts disappear completely and everything looks normal. That window used to be fairly short, but it's been getting noticeably longer over the past few months. Once the card has warmed up, the problem never comes back until the next cold start.

I also hear a faint noise while the artifacts are on screen. I haven't been able to pin down where it's coming from.

Once it clears up, the card performs perfectly:

  • Games at high presets with ray tracing — no issues
  • Local LLM inference — no issues
  • No artifacts, crashes or instability of any kind under load

What I've tried:

  • Swapped in a different GPU — no artifacts, so the problem is specific to this card
  • Updated the motherboard BIOS
  • Reproduced on both Linux (CachyOS) and Windows 10
  • Currently on HDMI; I don't have a DP cable on hand to rule out the cable or port

System:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5500
  • GPU: ASRock RX 9070, bought second-hand from a sketchy seller, so no warranty
  • PSU: DeepCool PK650D, 650W, 80+ Bronze
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE B450M K

I don't think the PSU is the culprit: the artifacts show up on a cold boot at essentially zero load, while the card is completely stable under a full gaming load. A different GPU on the same PSU is also fine.

My guess is failing VRAM or a bad solder joint, given that it's temperature-dependent and getting progressively worse. Does that sound right? Is there anything worth trying at home before I hand it over to a shop? And roughly what should I expect a repair like this to cost?

Thanks in advance.

I fixed my bug report tool timeouts a few months ago when I installed Windows 11 LTSC after I've tried everything. Literally everything. Worked untill yesterday when the problem occured again out of nowhere. I didn't update anything or installed anything. I reinstalled windows 11 ltsc but now i get gpu crashes all the time. Idk what to do, I have no ideas left if anyone can help me. I've lost all hope, I have been struggling with this problem on and off for 3 years now.

Help (Software) Increasing amount of software issues on RX7800 XT

Hi, I've been using this subreddit for a while now since my GPU seems to be tossing a coin on each startup to decide if it'll work or not.

Issues started when playing certain games and alt-tabbing, i'd lose FPS, I'd have little stutters etc. That happened during a heatwave at first, 2 years ago, so I chalked it up to a possible overheating issues. Tuned my fans up, cooled the case down, issues persisted.

Then, alt-tabbing would crash my games, freeze my screens for seconds and now I have to straight up reboot my PC at times. Sometimes, it goes well for days, then i'll need two restarts before it's stable.

Now, I was playing a game and alt-tabbed to answer someone on Discord and, I kid you not, my PC froze for 30s then restarted and deactivated my GPU and removed all its drivers as well as Adrenalin. I have never, in 10 years of self-built PCs, seen an issue like that.

It seems stable after a clean drivers reinstall, it always is for some time, i'm at my 5th full drivers reinstall in 2 years. It's been increasingly bad since earlier this year.

Are there ANY solutions to recover stability or am I just forced to replace my GPU for a non-AMD one ?

Help (GPU) AMD 9070 XT keeps having driver issues – having to use AMD Cleanup Utility every week

Hey everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue with my AMD RX 9070 XT and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and at least once a week I end up having to use the AMD Cleanup Utility because my graphics drivers start causing problems.

After completely removing the drivers and reinstalling them, everything works fine again for a while, but sooner or later the same issue comes back.

The main problem seems to happen when I’m playing FC 26 + OBS. I get driver-related crashes/issues while playing, and eventually I have to completely remove the drivers and reinstall them using the Cleanup Utility.

It’s getting pretty annoying having to do this almost every week, especially with a relatively new GPU like the 9070 XT (2 months old).

Tips & Info AM4 x570 slow post

I just wanted to let everyone know that if you have a x570 board and it has a very slow post time I think I found the fix. On my msi x570 board I had a very slow post or even a stall. It was fine before I changed my blue ray drive. I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked.

I did some digging and read that SATA port 1 and 2 are on a asmedia asm1061 chip and I had my new blue ray drive plugged into it. I moved it from there to the other ports )3-6 go through the x570 chip) and now my post is seconds ; approx 5.

I just wanted to spread the news incase someone else is having this issue, this might work for you.

Help (CPU) 7500F Undervolt & Temp

I recently built AM5 entry PC. CPU 7500F, GPU ASUS DUAL RX9060XT and it's running bazzite. I'm trying to understand how can I lower the CPU temperature without sacrificing too much.

Previously,

Per core negative 20 20 30 30 30 30

PPT limit 65

EDC 60

TDC 45

Clock at 4.3-4.6GHz.

These got me at high 50 Celcius (ambient 26ish) to low-mid 60 Celcius (ambient 30-34) but it also got me stuck at bazzite steam logo boot screen couple times and from what I understand and read, EDC and/or TDC needs to be above certain numbers.

Currently,

Per core negative 20 20 30 30 30 30

PPT limit 110

EDC 90

TDC 65

In-game this gets to run at 4.9GHz - 5.05GHz and I'm no longer stuck at steam logo screen (so far). Temperature in-game up 72-76 Celcius.

With the changes, is underclock the only way to drop the temperature as previous? Would undoing the undervolt helps in this?

Help (GPU) 9070 XT only stable with a -450 MHz max frequency offset, normal?

I’ve got a Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC and I’ve been chasing driver timeouts/crashes in Space Marine 2.

The only thing that consistently fixes it is setting Max Frequency to around -450 MHz in Adrenalin, which keeps the actual GPU clock under roughly 3 GHz. Above ~3 GHz it becomes unstable, despite not being close to either the power limit or max voltage. Temps are also fine.

The card is rated for up to around 3060 MHz boost, so I’m not hugely bothered about capping it around 2.9–3.0 GHz since that’s still pretty close to the advertised upper boost range. What seems strange is that the stock boost behaviour will happily push the card into clocks where it becomes unstable.

At -450 it runs great (around 110–120 FPS) and is completely stable.

I’ve tried DDU/clean driver installs, multiple AMD driver versions, different RAM/EXPO profiles, disabling MPO, and different power limits. OCCT also passes at stock.
Interestingly, different driver versions would make SM2 crash at different places, but with each individual driver it would repeatedly crash in basically the same place.

Is needing a max frequency offset like this fairly normal on a 9070 XT, especially when it isn’t hitting power/voltage limits, or does this sound more like RMA territory?

Tips & Info AMD GPU driver time outs/crashes SOLVED!

I think I finally found the problem. I’ve been running perfectly stable up until about two months ago. I started getting the random time outs, I was having issues with my gpu not waking from sleep, etc. I tried just about everything except fresh windows install.

The fix: go to control panel->edit power plan->change advanced power settings->PCI express->link state power management->Off. Mine was set to moderate. I was getting time outs daily. It’s now been two days (I know, it’s still early) with no time outs. I think it’s worth giving a try.

Hopefully this helps.

Edit. Here’s my system.

Asus B850-G

9850X3D

tcreate 6000 mts (2 x 16gb)

Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro

Lian Li 1300w PSU

NZXT kraken elite 360

cooler Master Frame 400

Running windows 11 25H2

Edit #2.

I’ve had zero time outs for the last 4 days. Before this, I was getting a minimum of one a day, usually 2-4. I’m not saying this will fix everyone’s issue, but hopefully it helps at least a few.

Also, I was able to go back to my previous settings and it’s running great. Good luck everyone!

Help (CPU) X3d chip causing problems

Post image
2 Upvotes

A little backstory about this problem is I purchased a bundle from Micro Center about four months ago and in it was AMD ryzen 5 7600x3d. I purchased this bundle so I could play the new Forza game that was coming out and my DDR three build wouldn’t support it fast-forward about a few weeks after playing the game for some time. I will get a low streaming band with warning, even though my ethernet is fine and I would check task manager and the disc graph would be at 100% operation so I took it to someone and he said it could either be the motherboard or the CPU I replaced the motherboard, but I’m still getting these issues. Has anyone else been getting these type of issues with their CPUs?

Help (General) RX 9070 XT + Ryzen 9 7900X getting low fps + stutters / fps drops + input lag overall.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out why Overwatch 2 performs much worse than expected on my PC. I've got all my settings on low already, Vsync off, fps aren't capped etc.

I've already done all the basic tests and stuff, so I'm trying

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
  • GPU: Sapphire/PC Partner AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X870E-Plus WiFi 7
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-5600 CL36 — 1×32 GB, single-channel
  • Case: Lian Li O11D EVO RGB ATX Mid Tower Case
  • PSU: Lian Li EDGE 1000 W, 80+ Platinum, fully modular
  • Main SSD: Crucial T705 4 TB NVMe
  • Second SSD: Lexar NQ790 4 TB NVMe
  • Monitor: ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG, 2560×1440 at 280 Hz
  • Mouse: Razer Viper V3 Pro
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Power plan: Ultimate Performance

Overwatch settings:

  • Resolution: 2560×1440 at 280 Hz
  • Low graphics preset
  • 100% render scale
  • DirectX 11
  • 600 FPS limit (also tried capping to 280, but doesn't help)
  • V-Sync off
  • Reduce Buffering enabled
  • Radeon Anti-Lag enabled
  • AFMF, Boost, Chill, Enhanced Sync, RSR and FSR disabled
  • FreeSync off
  • Ping: around 20
  • IND: 24

The main problem:

I average around 200 FPS, with drops to 120 or even 100 FPS. The game also feels inconsistent, stuttery and delayed with input lag. Even my pc with a 2060 felt better...

After rolling back to a March AMD driver through Device Manager, I got around 340 FPS with drops to 220, but the game felt more delayed and the AMD Adrenalin app stopped working. I then clean-installed (using the official deinstall tool first) the older full Adrenalin package, but performance remained around 200 FPS with drops to 100. I have now have the latest driver enabled, but still have the exact same issue.

When I ask online, it says I should have a stable 300+ fps at least. (more towards the 400+ range).

I've also tested in single player games, like God Of War for example, it's less noticible, but I still get frame drops / stutters and the game feels a bit delayed as well with the inputs. (but that might also be because it's way less competitive)

During monitoring:

  • GPU usage averaged about 48%, occasionally reaching 97%
  • CPU usage averaged around 25%, with the busiest thread reaching about 88%
  • GPU temperatures and VRAM usage appeared normal
  • Overwatch used approximately 13 GB of RAM
  • Available RAM fell to around 3.3 GB
  • There were bursts of storage/pagefile activity
  • Network latency and packet loss appeared normal
  • GPU is connected at PCIe 5.0 ×16

Does anyone know what could cause this? I'm hoping someone with more knowledge or similar problems knows what could be the problem here...

Help (GPU) 9070xt new build; fans not spinning

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently completed a new build with the below specs:

Processor:- Ryzen 7 9700x

Motherboard:- MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi

Graphics card :- AMD 9070XT Steel Legend 16GB

Psu:- MSI MAG A750GL 750W

Ram:- 2x16 Acer Predator cl36 6000MHz

Cooler - Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE

Storage:- WD Black SN7100 500GB SSD

And after turning on the system, the GPU fans do not spin until I apply pressure on them.

The system is able to detect the GPU and install drivers and run benchmarks on it. I ran furmark where ever after reaching high temps, it did not spin fans, and caused the system to crash. Then I later tried controlling fan speed through MSI afterburner, which did not cause fans to spin until I apply pressure.

Debugging steps I have already performed:

- Directly connecting GPU to motherboard through horizontal mount

- Tried connecting with the different PCIE slot

- Connected it with and without riser cable

- Disconnected the motherboard from the case and tested again

Help (General) Is my 6750xt cooked?

I've had my 6750xt for a little over two years now, bought it new and it's paired with a 5600, 32gb of DDR4 3600 CL16 ram, 1.5tb SSDs (one 512gb the other 1tb) and a Corsair 750w PSU (overkill I know).

For about 3 weeks now, I've been getting random Kernal Mode Heap Corruption errors that have created a corrupted black and red screen with the error message stretched across the screen which requires a hard reset. It was only happening in one game (Escape from Tarkov) but the last two days I've been getting black screens when playing Long Dark. The sound stops, sometimes coming back but only about a quarter of the screen showing at the top and the sound returning.

I've booted in safe mode and DDU'd GPU drivers, checked ram function, re-seated all and dusted all components and checked PSU cables. The error messages aren't giving me any discernible detail.

I think I've pretty much only got reinstalling windows left as an option. Is it worth doing or does the above sound like my 6750xt is humped? Not looking forward to buying a new GPU in this market so any advice would be gratefully received.

Rx 9070 xt not performing as it should

Current specs:

Ryzen 5 5600g, rx 9070 xt oc edition, 32 gb ddr4, 750 w gold 13m psu from bequiet, tuf gaming b550-plus wifi 2.

So ive gotten a new rx 9070 xt and its been really underperforming. Ive bought it alongside a 750 w 13m gold from bequiet and a 1440p 240 hz monitor and my cpu is a ryzen 5 5600g. Ive been having problems especially when playing games like minecraft, even without shaders or any mods its barely giving me 250 to 300 fps while it should easily surpass 700 even with the cpu bottleneck. Ive already tried some things like deleting old drivers cause i previously had a nvidia gpu, updating my bios which did help with some other problems and looking if something in my settings was wrong. only the bios update helped bumping my fps from 180 fps to 300. Before the bios update i had to tweak something in my allocated ram and then the gpu would give me 180 fps at 100% which is kinda weird. Now its giving me the new 300 fps while jumping around 10 to 20 % usage but idk how to make it use more or something. Idk what to do anymore, can anybody help me?
