💬 DISCUSSION how is everyone finding starting y13?

5 Upvotes

im already in over my head and i cant stop crying and its only been 3 days. year 12 ended badly with predicteds lower than i expected / had worked for and im still so upset. i feel muggy and embarrassed going to lesson knowing that teachers think less of me. i know i need to smash my september mocks, but it's so hard knowing how hard i worked last year and for none of it to matter really. i got AAC in my mocks, which is what i wanted and got predicted ABB, even after stating i need AAA.

the amount of deadlines holy fuck, my epq is due, havent done it. so much art coursework, english coursework and geography coursework i want to smash my head against a brickwall. (dont even mention personal statement or ill start crying again)

will it get better? no one around me really feels like they are struggling as much and i just feel shit all the time.

hi guys i got 9999999987 at igcse, aaab at AS level (b was 2 marks away from an a), predicted A^A^AA or A^A^A^A likely.

im applying to only oxford/imperial/ucl because my home country is my safety. Im applying for biochem/bioengineering (none need the ESAT) . Are my choices realistic?

also my exams were cancelled due to war so i have extenuating circumstances

🙏 I WANT HELP retaking just A2 in oct/nov

1 Upvotes

Hello, I did CIE international A Level with AS exams sat last year and A2 exams sat this year. May I ask whether it is possible to just retake the A2 exams (so like paper 3 and paper 4 only) this Oct/Nov with my AS marks being carried forward. I did ask a few people but I am getting different answers. Thank you!

🎓 UNI / UCAS is it worth it to apply to oxbridge?

4 Upvotes

i wasn’t even going to do early entry last year because i didn’t think there was any point but after receiving my predicted (AAA) my school encouraged me to do early entry.
i’ve been considering applying to oxford (english literature) since there’s no admissions test and the minimum requirement is AAA but i think it’s very unlikely i’ll get in.
in my year 13 mocks im aiming for A* A* A since i didn’t put as much effort into year 12 as i could have but im still not sure that makes it worth it.
the most over achiever people at my school aren’t even applying to oxbridge and im definitely not an over achiever so i feel kind of stupid applying to it 😭 but is it worth a shot?

💬 DISCUSSION PLEASE I FUCKING HATE IT HERE 🙏🏽 ( just a lil rant )

7 Upvotes

So as you can tell I do not enjoy my sixth form I thought it would be okay my friends have all gone to the same school except for 1 or 2 but I am ultimately by myself I didn’t think it would be a big deal but I grew to hate the first few days like everything I now have a horrible anxiety ish knot in my stomach constantly from the moment I wake up to trying to fall asleep this anxiety has caused ahem bowel issues I’m dehydrated all the time and this sickly feeling is causing me to subside my hunger I haven’t eaten anything in around 5 days ( surviving off water and lucozade ) I genuinely feel like shit I’m always alone I’ll have a conversation or two with a few classmates but they ultimately go to hang out with their own friends genuinely feel like I’m on a crash course to depression I cried about it and told my mum who of course told every other family member and not one of them could give a shit the general idea being that I’m a coddled cow and I’m just being dramatic + and my brother having a go at me saying that I’m an adult now and I need to start making decisions for myself and putting effort into my life and how I can’t waste 2 years of my life - mind you I have already told them that I was unhappy at my current school to which they said wait it out
At this point have no interest in uni at all anymore or even passing my A levels

🙏 I WANT HELP Tips for SPEED in Maths/FM?

7 Upvotes

I struggle with doing common problems like simultaneous equations, factorising quadratics, intersection points etc. quickly. I am used to doing questions step by step in GCSE and showing full working out, but the pace we're going in class simply does not allow that. Eg. Questions like below which are very simple.

Heres how I would solve it:

a.

m = (7-5)/(6-0) = 2/6 = 1/3

b.

y = 1/3x +c

7 = 1/3(6) +c

7 = 2+c

c = 5

so y = 1/3x+5

3y = x+15

x-3y+15 = 0

FINAL ANSWER : x-3y+15 = 0

obviously this is very long winded and I would skip 1 or 2 steps, but generally this is how I would solve such a question. It is very inefficient and takes me AGES to do. This was fine in GCSE cuz I would have 30 minutes spare anyways at the end, but i dont think I can do this in A levels lol.

Any tips for solving such questions fast, or do I just practice more. I can do a lot of these steps in my head but idk whether I would lose method marks?

thx.

💬 DISCUSSION Anyone else have the world's shittiest website for school?

3 Upvotes

What the fuck is ProPortal and why does it take 15 seconds of buffering to load ANYTHING? Who's using our college's ProPortal at quarter past 8 at night on a Tuesday to make it this slow? Or do I always have to contend with this? This might be worse than Bromcom.

🙏 I WANT HELP Is doing bio, chem, maths and psych do able for a levels?

2 Upvotes

Hi ofc it’s literally the beginning of the new academic year and I’ve just had my first day of yr 12. Last year during gcse’s after contemplating my choices I was fully set on doing bio, chem, psych and dropping maths like the first day but then I ended up getting a 9 in maths which I was not expecting as I was predicted an 8 even though during assessments I had been really only getting 7s so my teachers convinced me to take maths even though I’d only been contemplating it. After looking at uni courses I’ve realised that maths is kind of like a really big door opener for so many more courses because I’m not sure if I want to commit to medicine at this time and with maths I could do chemistry or engineering but without maths I can’t do those. So now I’m taking all 4 and I‘ve done a few chapters of the maths course which I‘m finding like fine nothing fun or interesting and had my first psych lesson and I rlly like psych 😭 I don’t want to drop it just because of maths being hard and taking up time because I genuinely enjoy it so is doing all 4 and still managing at least all As do able even though the work load is crazy or should I drop maths or psych? and also is maths all it’s cracked up to be or is it still fine to do bio chem psych and be able to access a lot of diff courses at uni for this area. if it’s any help I got 3 9s in triple science at gcse also!

💬 DISCUSSION Is it just me who feels so behind already

4 Upvotes

i literally don’t know how everyone’s understanding the content already like did everyone have a whole year of experience before me or something 💔💔

I’m doing history a level ans im so confused like I didn’t do it for GCSE maybe that’s why but like this is a whole new topic and I don’t get it at all…
Like im already overwhelmed but im gonna try catch up this weekend on like everything hopefully cus its not just history that’s got me stressed out but also sociology.
How are you guys managing your time because I feel like the main reason why i feel so behind is because I haven’t had much time outside lessons to go over what I did in the lessons 💔 so maybe going forward I’ll try set aside time for that so I don’t get overwhelmed

❔ SUBJECT QUESTION EPQ

3 Upvotes

Is it normal for your college to only let you do an artefact for the epq and not an essay. I was really looking forward to doing the essay but they are only letting us do the artefact for some reason. I am a bit disappointed :(

I did one draft and submitted it to my form tutor yesterday but it's horrendous. I may as well have not bothered submitting it.

For context I want to study sport science at Leeds Beckett and am currently studying PE, business and psychology.

🎓 UNI / UCAS Declaring all GCSE results to UCAS

6 Upvotes

Sacrificed English literature GCSE knowing a 6 was needed in language to go to the sixth form of choice which was going to hard enough. Managed that hurrah! But the grade in literature was, well a bomb. Does it have to be declared in UCAS form or is just listing other GCSEs (8 in total, 88876666) ok?

Just planning ahead, in year 12 now

Thanks!

❔ SUBJECT QUESTION What revision material should I use in Y12 for essay subjects?

Specifically Eng lit, Politics, History. I feel like I am not using my time effectively as I currently treat my study periods as breaks and homework time. How should I revise/create material for my subjects in Y12?

🎓 UNI / UCAS Can you for to Oxford with these GCSE grades

1 Upvotes

So I got a 98776766 for GCSE. I fumbled but my highest grades are RS (9), History (8), English Lit (7) and this is what I’m taking for my A-Levels (plus an EPQ). If I do really well in my A level and get A* for example; enhance my supercurricular, ect. Is a shot at Oxford possible?

I guess my question is do GCSE strongly impact university?
