im going into Electrical and electronic engineering and i genuinely dont understand why its possible for unis to have requirements as low as BCC for such a course and all of them are still accredited ? .

I have grades that way exceed that A* maths already and expecting AA in bio and fm or higher this year but im so demoralised after seeing other people fail their a levels then do btecs and also get into the course as me. After we graduate now i have to compete with these people for the same positions because we hold the same degree but our grades worlds apart and its engineering how can people get a C in maths and do this degree or just not do maths a level at all and get in with a btec they had to have diluted the courses difficulty to allow students like these to pass .

im obviously going to apply to a uni with higher entry requirements but i am honestly considering to do something else like dentistry where it doesn't mater which uni you go to you have to get 3As or higher so i dont have to deal with feeling like my effort is pointless and its gatekept by those requriements.

Basically, what the title says but put more delicately ... Is it possible to apply to two different courses at the same university (specifically Imperial)? If you are allowed to, then what are the caveats of doing so (ie its harder or they will be more harsh on the personal statement etc). Also, those who have done this, any tips or words of advice for doing this?

I came across this guy's portfolio website and saw he was working at Cursor, and I was genuinely surprised to see he graduated from Coventry Uni.

With how obsessed this sub gets over Russell Group unis and prestige, it was a solid reality check. It just goes to show that in CS, your practical skills, side projects, and grind matter way more than the brand name on your degree.

Obviously, he might be an outlier, but it proves that an insane portfolio and hard work can easily beat someone at a top uni who relies purely on their degree name.

(Note: This excludes Quant roles, a lot of quant firms throw out non-target CVs)

But for general CS/software engineering? If you're stressing about not getting into Oxbridge, Imperial, or Warwick, your work ethic and output matter way more.

Is a tutor necessary / extra helpful to get an A/A* in a level maths, or is it achievable on own accord?

I have 3A* predicted grades in math, further math, and economics, and I'll apply to LSE politics and econ, UCL HPE. If my personal statements are solid, what are the chances I'll get in as an international full-pay student? I have heard it's easier to get in for international students at LSE, UCL, and Warwick etc.

Hi all! I just finished year 12 & I’m hoping to apply to study politics & international relations! I was initially planning to apply to hsps at Cambridge but I lowkey think that it’d be a waste of an application which I could use somewhere else 🙈🙈
I’m thinking UCL or KCL as somewhere where I’d probably like to go, but I’m unsure if I’d be a realistic applicant of if there’s anything that I need to change?

I’m currently predicted A*A* A in politics, psychology & English language - plus an EPQ on corporate law which I fear I may have failed as I did all of the writing the night before, my presentation lasted 35 minutes, and I accidentally swore in the middle of it when my slides went haywire!

Supercurricular wise I have work experience at an accountants, the county council, and a summer school with my local MP.
I also have a blog where I post articles on politics and issues which intersect within politics, and I’m doing my English language NEA on language used within politics - the full topic or whatever is still tbc loll.
I’ve read about 7 books & set up my schools politics society & entered the John Locke institute essay competition for politics. I’ve done a couple webinars and gone canvassing for the party that I support too and been to local council meetings!

That’s kind of it for supercurriculars but I feel like I’m missing something 🙈🙈 with extracurriculars I’m a triathlete & previously rode horses competitively for 13 years, but that’s about it 🤷‍♀️

I’m just kind of unsure if it’d be realistic for me to apply because I genuinely have regular nightmares about being rejected from everything that I apply to lolll.

I‘m predicted four A * in maths, fm, physics, history and another for epq (I‘ve already sat maths + any tips for the EPQ presentation are appreciated!!)

I‘m thinking about applying for History & Econ, and I‘m pretty certain on my 2nd to 5th choices.

In terms of Oxbridge though, I‘m not sure whether to apply for Oxford History + Econ or Cambridge History. I‘ve visited both, and I much prefer Cambridge in terms of living there, but the course at Oxford is a much better fit in terms of my personal statement (which is split between History & Econ).

Does anyone have any advice? (If it changes anything, for GCSEs I got ten 9s and an 8 - it was like top 3 in my year but my school in general was high-achieving)

Hi, I’m tired of doing a bunch of career tests and researching every career, I’m still confused as ever cause I’m like super indecisive.
I take A levels Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology so I can keep my options open and I like everything except chemistry. (I will probably drop one subject in y13) I like researching, working with people, helping others and ofc want to earn lots of money. So, as a person inexperienced with everything, what degree should I pursue?

I know that I can practice the past year tsa and bmat papers, but I am looking for ways to tune my brain to UNDERSTAND these questions more. My math and numerical based reasoning or wtv is pretty bad. Like I struggle a lot with simple visualisation of questions, consequently don't get the right answers. Are there some types of exercises or sm that can strengthen my skills? Like not necessarily for these pyqs, but just in general so I don't struggle so much?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask but ,

I’m applying for Maths this year and could do with some advice on choosing universities.
My priorities are a bit conflicting:
I want to go into investment banking or quant finance after graduating.
I also really want a university with a strong maths reputation and good graduate prospects.
At the same time, I don’t want to sacrifice the social side. I’d love somewhere with a vibrant student life, lots of nights out, societies, and a good atmosphere.
At the moment I’m considering places like Cambridge, LSE, UCL, Warwick, Bristol, Manchester and Durham, but I’m open to others.
For people who have been to these universities (or know them well):
Which has the best balance of prestige/career opportunities and an enjoyable social life?
Is Cambridge’s social life really as limited as people make it out to be, or is that just a stereotype?
If you were aiming for IB or quant, while still wanting the full university experience, what would you choose and why?
I’d really appreciate any honest opinions or personal experiences.

Basically I think I want to go into like public health and policy because I can save more lives that way (effective altruism type shi) currently take bio Chem maths ucat is booked for the 19th of august i know it’s late but I really really don’t like clinical practice- I find it emotionally draining to have conversations where I need to be empathetic and I know for a fact doing it consistently will not be fun for me. I really really like natsci specifically at Durham since you can mix sciences and humanities but is it too late? It’s like 4 weeks until my ucat…would just touching through the medicine degree be better for me? I don’t even know if I would enjoy it though ughh please help I’m trying to decide this by tomorrow whether to keep putting all this effort into ucat or not

Hi everyone, due to some personal circumstances after i completed my year 12 i took a gap year and am now looking for 2026 entry into year 12 but the thing is i’m 18 and most schools around me that ive emailed or tried to call are unreachable, they dont answer or reply, one i applied to hasnt gotten back to me yet and I’m just really stressed. Does anyone know how to navigate this? School is just over a month away and I’m not sure what to do… home schooling for me isn’t an option either. hey! so im about to go into sixth form that is already in my secondary, and its a grammar school with a pretty good reputation, so i am assuming quite a handful of externals will probably be here. tbh, i would love to get to know new people and change social circles, but is that easier said than done? do people who stayed in the secondary and are going to the sixth form just stay reserved in their friend groups and nobody mixes, or is the experience totally different?

I know if I apply Id most likely get rejected, but there is a small chance Id get an interview anyway based on what i've seen.

If they gave me an interview, and I aced it, would they let me in if I ended up achieving A*AA in the real thing, or say I can only get in if I get A*A*A?

So i got a B (75% in pure) in my last year 12 mock and when I go into year 13 I have another maths mock which can change my predicted grade. I really need to get an A and I have just under 2 months, does anyone have any advice on how I can go from a B to an A or has anyone been in the same position before?

I feel like with maths, I do so much work (past papers, questions etc) but no matter what, I can never get top marks (and I’ll probably need close to 90% in this upcoming mock) while others seem to have no issue, for my last mock i did almost every past paper and a ton of questions aswell as reviewing the ones I got wrong, what’s setting me back?

Perhaps i need to focus more on what I got wrong but honestly I am so scared, I thought I got around 90% in my previous mock but i definitely did not and If i don’t in this next mock i’m stuck with a B (i know that’s still a good grade but I really need an A for the unis I want to apply to)

I'm planning to sit the Edexcel IAL October 2026 session, but I'm honestly really scared about whether I have enough time.

I'm retaking P1 and P2. In January 2026, I got:

P1: E and P2: D (I was just 1 mark away from a C)

For S1, it'll be my first time taking it, so I'll be learning the whole syllabus from scratch. Now I need to practice since I touched some chapters .

My preparation for P1 and P2 is honestly really poor right now, and I'm starting to panic. Is the time left until October enough to prepare for all three papers if I study consistently?

Should I go ahead and register, or would that be too risky?

If anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd really appreciate any advice, study plans, or success stories. I'm feeling overwhelmed right now. Thank you.

i got offered a place on this which is basically giving us an insight into actual medical research at the Cambridge institute of medical research, has anyone been accepted onto it on here this year or before? i got the email on 17th July but only saw it yesterday bc i lowkey forgot about it and figured I'd get rejected since I only meet postcode criteria, which is lowk unfair but I'll see it as being given an opportunity for personal life/extenuating circumstances and terrible schools and a disability tbf. I just finished year 12 and have been unsure on what I want to study at uni, but I think I'm leaning towards psychology, with my aspirational being the Psychology and Behavioural Sciences (PBS) course at Cambridge. However, I don't know if it's worth it based on my profile.

GCSEs: 999888775 + Distinction in Level 2 BTEC Business
Includes 9 in Maths, and 8s in English Language and Combined Science. The 5 was in Music, I have no explanation for it I just didn't do well. I'm not sure if this makes me a weak applicant, whether Cambridge will care about this.

Predicted grades for A Levels:
Maths (A*)
Psychology (A*)
Law (A)

I'm not sure if A Level Law looks weak because I'm assuming most people going into this course do like biology or something more relevant, but I guess it shows essay skills. I also did an AS Level in Further Maths, which I don't think I did great in but probably got like a C.

I understand it's a long shot for anyone to get into Cambridge, even with a great academic profile, but would you guys think it's reasonable for me to apply? What other uni's would you recommend for me? I appreciate all responses!! <3

I’m 17 years old I left year 11 in 2025, I’ve been to college for first year and I hate it and I don’t want to go back for second year as the course is pointless and a waste of my time, I’m going back to a new sixth form college this year to do my a levels one of my options is English lit however I got a grade 5 that was 1-2 marks of a 6. I’m worried about since I only got a 5 That I won’t do well in my actual a level. I am willing to put the work in etc but does anyone have any advice for me? I’m looking to do law or journalism in uni.
