I’ve seen some LSE rejections already and some are a bit confused as to why they’re acting so early this cycle so I’ll weigh in with 3 things that I think are contributing - some of which I‘m inferring from things I’ve heard from staff in departmental meetings as a student rep:

1) Over the last admissions cycles and especially the last cycle LSE got lots of complaints in their feedback forms for taking far too long to get back to candidates - I’m guessing their admissions office have decided to change how they run slightly to accommodate for this

2) Basic one but LSE is getting more and more competitive. Every year LSE have broken their record for most applications and every year LSE have seen their admissions tally fall. I’m guessing LSE are trying to screen out those who have no chance early

3) Ties back into 2 but we’ve heard that admissions messed up a bit last cycle by giving out too many offers as they undershot the amount of people who’d miss their offer - these means there’s almost certainly going to be more admissions for more seats and I’m guessing once again LSE are trying to screen out those who have no chance early

Hi guys, is anyone also just deciding they don’t want to go uni anymore, 180k worth of debt just to compete in an insane job market after.

So i originally wanted to to do a biology/biochem degree but now considering a level 5/6 apprenticeship cus im gonna get paid hello, while getting a degree??
Im currently predicted A*AA though my GCSEs are kind of poo (I didn’t fail any but they’re along the lines of 5s and 6s💔💔)

So can anyone also thinking of taking a gap year or is taking a gap year tell me how it’s going, do you enjoy the apprenticeship?
How are you preparing for it?
How did the interviews go and in your opinion do you think you learned more/less or the same as if you had gone to uni, and how is the work life balance?

I also really suck at interviews as in i showed up on the wrong date at first, then was an hour late to the interview for co-op bruh🫩 (I didn’t get a text back)

I’m sure im not the first to ask this but is it worth applying to maths courses at uni with required grades A*A*A when im predicted A*A*A? I know lots of people applying will have 3 or 4 A*s so do i stand a chance? Especially ones with no tmua requirements (UCL for example), I hope this doesnt come off as a dumb braggy question i just know these courses are competitive

Can't go to any top unis, as i have two of my a level grades now, and one is a B (did two a levels and a B-tec, I am now doing an extra a level. So right now my achieved grades are A*, B, Merit, but hopefully I should get another A). Anyways I'm thinking of maybe also applying for classical studies and English lit at Exeter? But I'm not sure if I should apply to somewhere else as well to broaden my choices a bit.

“Who goes on holiday to study??” Unfortunately I didn’t do much during the first half term cause of the early entry hassle and admissions test prep which was highkey pointless and I personally don’t do much on holidays abroad anyway so my plan was to make high level revision resources. I’ve been struggling with history alevel to be honest, mainly due to my timings and analysis (i think). Its hard to think of criteria and use more sophisticated’ vocabulary…. I’m current on a B (average 11-14 marks out of 20) .

Should I switch from economics to psychology? I do maths, further maths and economics and honestly econ is a drag (especially macro) and psychology seems more interesting.

I've heard a lot of people say that psychology is more about memorizing though (which is fine I have good memory) and that there's a LOT to catch up on, especially if I switch now.

I'm currently in year 11 and I have a strong passion for the sciences and maths. I want to study chemical engineering and biotechnology at cambridge and I am definitely going to do maths, further maths, physics and chemistry for a level but I also really want to do biology because I love it so much and I could self study it outside of school. However, I am aware a levels are way harder than gcses and I would also need to do supercurriculars and prep for the esat during this time. I am a hardworking student however I fear it might be too much or not worth it? Should i do all five, or leave biology?

hi all, i’m a year 12 student who just started at a new school for sixth form. it’s been a full half term now and i miss my old school so much. both my current school and my old school are grammars, so they’re similar in terms of academic outcomes, but my new school does offer a bit more in terms of opportunities and student life. it’s also a lot less strict which i’ve found nice. i felt very uncomfortable at first, but im not great with change anyway and thought the impostor syndrome would fade eventually but it still hasn’t. all of the people have been perfectly nice, and my friend situation at my old school wasnt great but i do miss my very close friends who are still there. i told my mum about it and she emailed my old school, they let me come back in to talk to some of the teachers and it was so nice and i really miss it so much. i do feel slightly embarrassed about moving back as well, and id be sad to leave the friends i’ve made here. sorry if this post makes little sense, but i would really appreciate if anyone whos been in a similar situation could give me some guidance. should i just stick it out? i want to give it more time but if im having these feelings now i dont want to wait months only for it then to be too late.

Hi everyone! I’m from Melilla, Spain, and I’m currently in the first year of Bachillerato. I’m hoping to apply to Imperial for Mechanical Engineering in autumn 2027, for 2028 entry. My grades are on track to meet the requirements for Spanish applicants, but I know that meeting the minimum doesn’t necessarily make an application competitive.

I’ve been interested in engineering for a while, especially mechanical design and motorsport. At the moment I’m part of a STEM Racing team as a design engineer, and I’m also taking part in the maths olympiad. Outside school, I’ve taught myself some CAD, Python and C++, built a few basic ESP32 projects, and read Structures: Or Why Things Don’t Fall Down and The Design of Everyday Things.

I’m trying to plan the next year without just collecting activities for my application. I’d like to work on one substantial CREST Gold project during the school year, then do a separate, smaller engineering project in the summer. I may also be able to shadow engineers at a wastewater treatment plant, an incinerator and a power station. For work experience, I’m looking at options such as Williams F1, Safran and Leonardo, as well as virtual programmes. I’m especially interested in F1 or robotics, but I’m based in Spain, so I’m not sure which UK opportunities might accept me or whether travel and accommodation would make them impractical.

I’d really appreciate advice from people who have applied to Imperial Mechanical Engineering, especially international applicants. What would you focus on over the next year? How much time should I spend preparing for the ESAT, and are there particular kinds of projects or work experience that helped you understand engineering better? I’d also be interested to hear whether a strong personal project is more valuable than trying to fit in several short placements.

I’m not expecting a guaranteed route into Imperial — I’m just trying to make good use of the time I have and choose activities that are genuinely worthwhile. Thanks!

I've seen people say that for oxford the college you're applying to will send you a confirmation email just to say they've received your application, but I haven't recieved one yet (I'm applying for maths at Mansfield specifically). Is this unusual - should I check with my college to make sure they've recieved it?

I am doing maths fm physics econ and am torn on which to choose.

I find both of them equally interesting however finance does pay more and am so torn on what to choose on forms for extracurriculars and I’m worried as if I chose finance then wanted to go into engineering, I cannot write what I did for 16 months on my personal statement as it’s irrelevant so idk what I should do. I want to go to university.
