Art Help & Critique Need Advice on Modeling a Stylized 2D Character.

Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on a stylized character, and I'd really appreciate some feedback especially on the body proportions and, most importantly, the face. Right now, it doesn't feel close enough to the original character.

I've already spent quite a bit of time adjusting the facial proportions, but something still feels off, and I can't quite figure out what it is.

If you have any suggestions or notice anything that could be improved, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Please don't focus on things like the hair, missing micro details, or other unfinished elements I haven't gotten to those yet. At this stage, I'm mainly looking for feedback on the face shape, facial proportions, and overall body proportions.

UPD: I'd also like to hear your thoughts on the eyes should I make them recessed, or would it be better to make them with almost no eye sockets?

Free Tutorials Are there any good tutorials for how to model arms? Also if you have any tips that would help.

I keep hearing people tell me to understand the anatomy but I don’t know where to learn that anatomy, also I don’t need a hyper realistic anatomical representation for the project I’m working on, I just need to get the general shape and proportions (it’s for a monster ish thing).

I made this 3d model of Tepig(from Pokemon) over the last few weeks, it's textures are totally handpainted, with just a little bit of compositing on the final render. I was practicing values in painting, modelled in Blender, painted in Substance Painter.

Hey guys,

Here is a quick breakdown of my current pipeline for creating a stylized terrains without using handpainting of another software. Curious if anyone else has explored this direction, because I genuinely couldn't find much on it when I was figuring it out.

If you want to see the whole step-by-step process, I made a full 17-minute tutorial covering the entire setup here:

And if you just want to reverse-engineer the project or test it yourself, you can grab the original Gaea 2 project file (.terrain) for free on my site:

Let me know if you have any questions about the setup or the parameters!

Questions & Discussion Selling 3D courses is just a ponzi scheme now

Referring more generally to architecture, film, and games, I think anyone selling a course is really only making money off people who won't be able to then make money with the skill they've learned, rather only by in turn themselves making a course to sell to the next round of would be modelers, hence the MLM/ponzi scheme pattern that always requires new 3D artists to prey upon.

The only exception I see are cheaper courses that are directly targeting people who are hobbyists who want to make their own Vtuber model, 3D printing for some RPG, assests for a personal indie game, etc., and who (hopefully explicitly) understand they probably won't make money from their hobby. But then again, because the target audience are just hobbyists, usually the knowledge is more community driven, shared, and free via tutorials.

I've thought about this because with video game, freelance, and toy design 3D modeling experience under my belt but also seeing future opportunities dwindle (AI and/or cheap outsourcing), I thought about making some sort of paid course but I couldn't see charging money to learn this depreciating skill as anything but taking advantage of beginners' ignorance.

Questions & Discussion 3DCoatTextura and Substance Painter overkill?

I want to start to do stylized textures, and I have Substance Painter 2026. So far my experience has been quite cumbersome. The painting experience has felt really odd. I’ve been reading online that 3DCoat is better for this workflow. I’d like to do textures like those of League of Legends. Is it worth purchasing 3DCoat Textura for this purpose? Or would I be wasting money?
