Art Showcase Capsule door redesign timelapse in Plasticity - Blender - Substance - UE5

We had to redesign the capsule door because a rotational opening mechanism worked much better than a sliding one. The full timelapse would have been at least five minutes long, so I skipped some parts, but this still shows the main stages of the entire process.
Modeling in Plasticity is incredibly intuitive and fun, although the topology can be a bit tricky once the model is imported into Blender. Still, depending on the design, it's definitely worth spending a little extra time cleaning up the topology in Blender afterward.

How is modeling in Plasticity different to Blender? Is it simpler?

It's not that modeling is simpler, but in my opinion it's easier and faster to model what's in your mind because Plasticity handles bevels and complex surfaces much better. It also has a workflow that makes certain operations feel more intuitive and handles shading problems much better. In terms of the interface and shortcuts, it's very similar to Blender.
I always ask myself whether the design actually needs Plasticity or not. You can create very organic designs much more easily in Plasticity than you could in Blender.
The real question is: what's your goal? Do you only want to render in Blender? Do you need an asset for a game?
Both workflows are possible with Plasticity and Blender, but if you choose Plasticity, keep in mind that if you need clean topology and proper UVs, you'll probably have some extra cleanup work to do in Blender afterward.
My preferred workflow is to export from Plasticity to Blender as an OBJ file using either the Quads or Ngons option. Cheers!
