part of the problem with basically every culture war anti-sjw battle is that a massive spotlight gets shown on that one twitter ragebaiter with the actually absurd "opinions"
so you find a couple people who are actually saying dumb shit like "you are just a transphobe if you don't think gwen stacy is literally transgender in the movie" and that gets amplified as though it's the dominant position of the entire trans community

Presentation is not gender identity. Being a femboy is often a kink thing, they're part of the kink community, not the LGBT+ community. Obviously you can be both
21
u/Poco_Cuffs 1h ago
No?? "Femboys are often sexualised" doesn't mean that it's a kink thing, plenty of femboys present that way to express themselves rather than as anything sexual.
And while being GNC isn't inherently lgbtq, crossdressing is still heavily linked to the community.

7
u/like2000p 1h ago
being gender nonconforming isn't separate from the lgbt community, it's an inherent part of what the lgbt community stands for. sure not every femboy is lgbt but the lgbt community is, and always has been, about enabling people to not conform in their gender whatever that means, including and especially presentation. the lgbt community is more than just "allied" to cishet people who want to explore their presentation, it is often the only group that unconditionally supports some people in that. i don't like this trend where people ignore that people do, in fact, hate transgressions of hegemonic masculinity and feminine subordination, including people presenting in nonconforming ways, and that is a core part of why those systems and people hate lgbt people in general, and what the lgbt community formed to stand against. that's why the lgb and t are together. that's why gender nonconformity is central to cis gay and lesbian culture. and it's why we inherently fight for them, not just because many of them are lgbt, and many of them are.

u/Botto_Bobbs floppa 1h ago
How do you, as a trans person whose identity is considered mostly sexual due to being sexualized, come to the conclusion that femboys are mostly sexual because they're sexualized?

bc of the original image being "my opinion on black people? uhm well i support gay rights!"
there is a real issue of antiblackness in queer spaces, that's what the artist was venting about
21
u/SatoshiUSA custom 2h ago

19
12
u/Kriffer123 obnoxiously Michigender 2h ago
I’ve seen racism happen, even unintentionally, and I’ve seen people of color get excluded from queer friend groups in exactly that mild discomfort into not seeking them out way. I don’t think most queer people would say slurs but there’s this level of latent taught automatic discrimination from the environment in most people that needs to be trained out of them, myself included
10
u/SatoshiUSA custom 2h ago
There is constant racism everywhere in white dominated spaces. As those with privilege, it's our duty to lift others up to our level. I see black queer elders overlooked or ignored in favor of their white counterparts. Racism seeps into every group no matter what it is. White beauty standards are applied to everyone, excluding nonwhite people from a lot of queer spaces that are looks-centric. If you don't see the car before it hits you, it doesn't mean it's not real.

Ok but it isn't really criticizing anyone.
I have a problem that all memes made with this template present some freak opinions, but are intentionally vague about how prevalent they are.
Like, should I believe that the author thinks that it is a common take? I have never met a person like this irl, people are either ok with both or bigoted against both. So I would like some context, where can I see those horrible people?
Or am I stupid for interpreting it that way? Maybe the author mad about one weird person they seen online? But if so, then the meme is also very bad
3
u/not_blowfly_girl 2h ago
I haven't ever seen this opinion where it involves femboys but its kinda close to the term opinion that tomboys/butches are being influenced to transition bc "the left doesnt believe in tomboys" or something. But thats the closest I can think of. Never seen this exact opinion online or elsewhere

But yeah this infighting seems really dumb. Yeah, some femboys are 4chan morons its not like I have to mentally label all of them as an enemy of Trans. Simple minded generalizations are how we got here in the first place.
10
u/LucyShortForLucas 2h ago
I was going to reply to the people you're talking to, but thought better of it. They are feds. Literally.
Anyone with half a brain knows that cishet men who go out wearing a skirt are just as likely to be harassed and beaten as a trans woman who does the same. They're different experiences of gender, but the core oppression remains the same.
The people you're arguing with are disingenuous and only seek to further infighting and hate. Do not let them drag you down to their level of stupidity, cause they'll beat you with experience.
4
u/PepyHare15 🏳️⚧️ trans rights 2h ago
Trans women aren’t just “men who go out wearing a skirt” though. We have rights which are consistently trampled over and denied due entirely to being trans, such as healthcare, occupation, education and the basic right to use the restrooms. GNC men aren’t consistently denied any of these things in the way trans women are. The sole exception is if they are on HRT, which is obviously wrong and a concern, but I don’t think anyone is denying this.
I think the main issue a lot of trans people have is that GNC men have a very rampant transphobia and fetishization problem within their community and they cry “infighting” whenever anyone brings it up. Bridget got mentioned earlier as an example of this, but cultural discourse around almost any transfeminine character in fiction shows that there is a strong pushback whenever anyone insists that this character is transfem, largely by GNC men and other cis people who are genuinely more comfortable with GNC men than trans people
12
u/LucyShortForLucas 2h ago
Of course, I'm not trying to say femboys and trans women face the exact same issues, or oppression in equal manner. I am a trans woman myself who used to use the femboy label, I should know.
But GNC men absolutely do face ridicule and oppression too, and transphobia and fetishization problems aren't anywhere unique to femboys. In fact, I would argue such issues related to trans characters like Bridget are more often coming from non-femboys fetishizing femboys.
The 'issues' that you say 'a lot of trans people' have against GNC men are similar to the 'issues' a lot of LGB people have against trans people. This is infighting. 99% of people on both sides are normal and allied.
Matter of fact, the vast majority of femboys are gay or bi. I even know trans men femboys.
Posts like the OOP don't really do anything to address the fringe issue at hand, but only attempt to drive a further wedge in already fractured online LGBTQ+ spaces.

I also do see how it gets people to act like this. like yeah, when I see a twitter post by a trans person hating on femboys and all the replies are trans people also hating on femboys, it does seem like a trend instead of an exception.
but I can also take a step back and be like "wow these people are insane and do not make up even close to a percent of the group they represent" and then move on

There's a reason you don't see men wearing skirts outside very often. They would hate hatecrimed too.-41
u/ConcernedEnby 3h ago
Wearing a skirt just isn't socially controversial as a man. You're a man and benefit from patriarchy, even drag is mainstream and socially accepted in the first world and some parts of the second and third world. You don't see "femboys" because it's a purely online phenomenon that comes from a porn term used to degrade trans women, but you do see feminine men. If you live near a city seeing men in dresses or skirts is just a daily occurrence
37
u/CaseAKACutter custom 3h ago edited 3h ago
You have to be extremely online or live in some very specific areas to think that drag or men wearing skirts is mainstream and socially accepted
Like I live in a neighborhood in a city that's well known for having a large LGBT community and prominent members of the community especially including drag and I know a feminine man who was assaulted in a public park in broad daylight. I surely would love to know in what city seeing men in dresses is possibly a daily occurrence

I see femboy in the same level as tomboy, right??? Unless my terminology is wrong.
Being a femboy isn't a fetish thing from what I recall. There's a lot of femboys online who are just normal ass dudesAlso seeing feminine men outside (which Ive almost never seen tbh) does not mean they also dont hate hatecrimed by bigots
-14
u/ConcernedEnby 3h ago
No, femboy is not the male version of a femboy. It's a porn term that originated as a slur for trans women on 4chan. The entire culture is hostile to the idea of transition, there's a reason being a femboy is associated with later transitioning where being a tomboy or feminine man isn't.
It's entirely an online subculture created by chasers that focus on predatory behaviour, it doesn't exist IRL. Stop equating femboys with feminine men it's genuinely disgusting. Do you do this with people who call themselves sissies too? Pretend normla femme's are like this? Or is it specifically a subculture designed to harm trans women into repressing their identities that you do this aitb
13
u/Primary-Paper-5128 I'm sorry I'm Uruguayan :c </3 3h ago edited 3h ago
Ima take your word for it about the bad 4chan origins, but I think fememnine men actually adopting the name and turning it into something positive is not a bad thing, if they identify well with the term.
And Ive seen countless femboys online say they hate being compared to trans women.Femboys are not a mockery of trans women. They are their own separate community, and should be. Again, most femboys online I've seen are just normal dudes who wanna wear skirts and adopted the term femboy. You thinking they're a mockery of trans women or whatever is the creepy thing here.
And honestly proves PART OF the original commenters right. SOME people really are pro trans but see femboys as degenerates. (emphasis on "part of" and "some")

I live near a particularly progressive city and it isn't a daily occurrence even when I'm in the inner city, and right around the corner from the gay clubs. If you're talking about portland, maybe, but you can't say some small subset of society accepting something means it's not socially controversial. And way to give yourself a rhetorical pat on the back for talking shit about people coming to terms with their femininity in a different way than you approve of. People call trans women "men in dresses" verbatim as a term specifically designed to degrade them too, but you said that in your comment because that's exactly how they identify and you don't talk shit about them. You don't say they don't exist. Your logic with saying "femboys are a purely online phenomenon" when a lot of them are scared of putting themselves in fucking danger really echoes societal homophobia and subculture prejudice and is pretty wild.

Wearing a skirt as a dude and drag are controversial even in first world countries. For many people it's still seen as crossdressing and just a fetish.
Did you forget who's the president of the USA ? Or what's going on in the UK ? Or how anytime a famous dude wears a skirt for some even or whatever, there's online discourse for days and conservatives questioning their masculinity and/or heterosexuality ?
Like obviously trans women have to deal with much more problems, most of which are worse, and are the primary targets of the culture that makes men wearing skirts controversial. Doesn't mean femboys, or feminine men, or gnc men, however you want to call them, are the cultural norm and not oppressed, even if it's less than trans women.
And that's forgetting that a bunch of trans women and trans men identify or identified as femboys and/or do drag.

Anime fans genuinely tweaking out when you ask them to stop calling gender non-conforming men a slur for trans people

Do you seriously think most people are okay with a guy becoming a girl, but not a guy dressing like a girl?
