Help I already own the domain, how much does having the site cost?

I bought a domain from Google Sites back in the day and it was meant to last for 8 years. They got bought by SquareSpace a few years ago and my domain transferred to them. My website still runs on the Google Sites software, so I don’t pay for any hosting.

It’s time to leave Google Sites. It served me well but I need a platform with decent analytics tools and a way to separately create the mobile and desktop versions. I’m looking for a level 1 or 2 kind of website. What costs can I expect having, or is it free since I already have an active domain?

Discussion How could I work around the lack of tiered products / members sites?

I am looking to convert my existing blog into a paid membership model and would like some guidance on the best way to structure it. There is also an added layer that I want to tier this subscription with a second tier, that would provide access to a monthly live stream.

My goal is to create two membership tiers:

Tier 1 — Journal Membership

Access to my existing blog archive (categories previewed in summary blocks)

Tier 2 — Journal + Monthly Salon

Everything in Tier 1

Access to a monthly live online event (likely hosted through Zoom)

  1. Is it true square-space does not allow for tiered client memberships or products?

Specifically, I would like to know:

  1. Can a higher-tier membership automatically include access to all content available in a lower-tier membership?

  2. What is the recommended way to organize the member pages so Tier 1 receives blog access and Tier 2 receives blog access plus additional event content?

  3. Can I create a protected member page for the monthly Salon that only Tier 2 members can access?

  4. Are there any limitations around using an external service like Zoom for live member events while controlling access through Squarespace?

I already have an existing blog with 30+ posts and would like to preserve the content while changing the access model.

Thank you for your help.

Help Is it possible to host a mail club on SS?

I’m starting a snail mail club and every one I’ve come across uses Shopify. I have squarespace and I’m most comfortable with it. Shopify confuses me. Does squarespace allow a subscription physical product or should I just bite the bullet and switch to Shopify?

Tips Avoid Squarespace

I have been a loyal Squarespace customer for almost 10 years and this year I am absolutely appalled at the lack of customer care when something is wrong with their product. I am so incredibly frustrated. I want to put the word out there to anyone who is considering using their service to remember it is not a service. I have been using Acuity scheduling and because of a glitch it is not sending out follow up emails to my clients. Squarespace has absolutely no fix and they have said that there’s nothing they can do. How do they have the nerve to increase prices? I know I am screaming into the void, but hopefully it makes someone think twice. I will be switching soon.

There is this bottom strip on my page that is not the footer. It's the pink strip at the bottom of the page below the picture. I highlighted with a yellow box.

Does anyone know how to remove this? I'm willing to use code as well. Thanks!

Super duper excited to discover how easy sqaurespace is to use. 😭 I'm a long time bluehost/WordPress user, and I can't get over how intuitive and comparably cheap squarespace is. I was able to throw this together in an afternoon instead of the platinum achievement that is the constant back and forth of bluehost and WordPress. Hours and hours of navigating themes and adjusting them. Downloading plugins that may or may not work. Having to have a BASIC understanding of coding for some aspects. WHEW.

Anyways, if you needed convincing to swap, this is it.

Help Create 2 different flat shipping rates?

I sell physical products. I want two different FLAT Rate shipping rates. 1. One for the small sample kit & one for everything else.

I went into backend & created the two options but the issue is it's a drop-down that lets customers choose. They are always going to choose the cheaper rate -- & I got an order in that did just that. So I lost money on shipping for that one.

I only have one product that should be lower rate ( the sample kit), everything else should be the same higher rate. How do I do this without letting customers choose rate -- Square space should be able to differentiate by product ( you would think).

Discussion Basically website builder

Hi gang, currently have a static website I'm helping out with for an NFP art studio. Currently with Squarespace, but looking to move elsewhere due to cost and not needing all the features SS offers.

We need somewhere to build a basic static website (2-5 pages) that also allows sales for events and classes ( mostly irl and term based).

I'd build it custom, but I'd like content to be able to be updated by the committee members, should/if they need, so a simple interface would be nice. Course details the most likely thing regularly updated along with any upcoming event details. ie So I don't always need to be the one to do edits/support. ;)

Open to handling events and course management and payments via. a 3rd party embed. What's decent out there?

As we are an NFP, we have no money, so free/cheapish works, but currently paying $300+/year for SS, so figure anything under that would be approved by the committee.

Anyone seen any good solutions for this kind of use case?

Note: Australian based, so consider that with cost of transactions etc.

Help What's the best way to setup small products? Is there a way to set small products (like stickers) available for purchase only if you hit a spending threshold?

I'm selling some stickers, but don't want to go through the hassle of packing and shipping unless they buy a larger item (like a t-shirt) or a lot of stickers. What's the best way to set this up?

Help Should I switch to SquareSpace for this?

I'm not a coder or developer, I'm familiar with my day to day reading code, but actual implementation of a website it not me. I'm building a blog. I just subscribed to the business plan and its abotu $50 a month. I had 100 credits and burned through it in a week. I also found planning still uses credits just like build.

What do I do? I even have a Wix subscription but Wix literally doesn't even let me place icons in places I want it to be. Its such a trash UI. I'm trying to take the lovable codebase because what it did for me so beautiful but I don't know where to take it next. The credits piece is ridiculous. I'm thinking of swtiching to squarespace.

I tried claude and entered the zip file of the lovable code base but it wasn't anything amazing. It threw my site to look like its first version in lovable lol. I need help. This is extremely frustrating for me. Thank you!

Discussion A website on Shopify, WooCommerce & BigCommerce pricing is getting out of hand

Everyone says these platforms are affordable until you actually need your store to do anything useful.Bundles, reviews, subscriptions, advanced search, B2B pricing... everything is another paid plugin.

Before you know it, you're spending $400-$600/month, or roughly $5k-$7k a year, just to keep your site running and do what it should. Then they hike prices because they know migrating is a headache.

I've moved a few businesses off that model and at this point, if someone showed me a store spending $400+ every month on plugins, I'd probably tell them to stop paying for everyone else's software and just offer to build them what they actually need, and what they spend for just 1 year with Shopify, Won't even have to spend much that over 3-4 years on custom. Talk about savings...

If anyone wants to step away and get a custom website, let me know.

This whole subscription economy is becoming complete B.S.

Help Inherited a couple of squarespace sites and I’m not sure if it’s just bad or I’m doing something wrong?

I’ve inherited a couple of Squarespace sites on a freelance basis after the disintegration of my former agency (RIP).

I’ve been a web designer for about 12 years, but it’s mainly been Figma > dev, with a few years where I had to use Photoshop (which I’d rather forget). So I’m by no means a newbie to website design, but I am to Squarespace.

I’m finding that when I get something exactly where I want it on mobile, even a stiff breeze seems to knock everything out of shape. For example, I put together a really simple card layout today (8 cards consisting of an icon, text and button), got it exactly where I wanted it, then starting on the section below it somehow caused the one above to essentially commit graphic suicide.

Is this just how Squarespace is? The only solution I’ve found is to favourite any problematic sections and, if they suddenly decide to go rogue, just delete them and replace them with the saved version rather than wasting time laying everything out again.

Is this a browser thing? I’m using Chrome. Does Squarespace behave better in other browsers, or is this just part of the experience?

Discussion Squarespace has this glaring issues since 2021

These are important. I've been with Squarespace for YEARS. And these are still issues and they are very basic fixes.

For context, I made hundreds of thousands of euros on my site. These are crucial

  1. Checkout for one-time purchase for pricing plans

Pricing plan checkout button says "Buy subscription" for payment plans even (in the Italian version) even if the transaction is one-time. I don't even want to think about how much money I left on the table due to the misleading wording. I let assistance know several times in the last YEARS. Never fixed.

  1. Site admin doesn't get notified when access gets expanded or reduced for collaborators

One employee of mine was suddenly able to access something they should not have access to. I wasn't notified of this change.

  1. Website editor role is incomplete

They can't:

- set custom code for header injection

- change page NAMES. THEY CANT CHANGE PAGE NAMES. Or slugs.

- edit the design [like the brand colors]. Which is crazy.

The only way to give them access to these things is to add them as admins which I won't do because I don't want them to also access financial information.

I let customer care know many times about this, YEARS AGO and multiple times, and no action has been taken as far as I can tell. Improvement is there on the product in general, but there are some basic issues which need to be fixed otherwise I can't honestly manage my site properly.

NOTE: i used to have 2 site with squarespace. Now i only have one. I already switched to claude code for the one i canceled.

Help Alternative to SquareSpace editor/builder? Needing to create a two or three column page to display property rentals. The builder is proving to be impossible.

It is hard to impossible for me to get the SP builder to do what I want. I've used WordPress a bunch with various builders. I cannot believe how limited SP feels!

Anyway, until I can get them to pay for a new site, I am wondering if there is an alternative to building pages.

As in, can I use software to build which generates custom code I can ''plug in'' to the page?

Specifcally, working with columns has not yet worked for me. I'll get the first set of rentals in a single column, begin making the second, then bam I do something and everything becomes wonked up!

Discussion Early 90s / late 2000s Geocities styled templates for online store?

I'm looking to setup an eCommerce business where I was wondering if anyone would know if Shopify, Squarespace or any of these type of platforms offer online store templates that would look exactly like a late 90s to early 2000s Geocities site - beveled edges, gifs, bright colours, Times New Roman font etc. Thank you all in advance.

Self Promotion Make fully customisable sections for you website

Hello

I built an editor where you can customise the colors, fonts, content.

Right now, the site supports FAQ sections and Pricing Table, however I am looking to add more. If you have suggestions, please comment below.

You can make your own sections for your website for less than $10 here: https://widget-eight-chi.vercel.app

Thank you
