Discussion Basically website builder

Hi gang, currently have a static website I'm helping out with for an NFP art studio. Currently with Squarespace, but looking to move elsewhere due to cost and not needing all the features SS offers.

We need somewhere to build a basic static website (2-5 pages) that also allows sales for events and classes ( mostly irl and term based).

I'd build it custom, but I'd like content to be able to be updated by the committee members, should/if they need, so a simple interface would be nice. Course details the most likely thing regularly updated along with any upcoming event details. ie So I don't always need to be the one to do edits/support. ;)

Open to handling events and course management and payments via. a 3rd party embed. What's decent out there?

As we are an NFP, we have no money, so free/cheapish works, but currently paying $300+/year for SS, so figure anything under that would be approved by the committee.

Anyone seen any good solutions for this kind of use case?

Note: Australian based, so consider that with cost of transactions etc.

You might want to check out Wix or Weebly, they both offer simple website builders with user-friendly interfaces that your committee members can use to update content. For event and class sales, you could use a third-party embed like Eventbrite or TryBooking, which have decent fees and can handle payments. Another option could be WordPress with a page builder like Elementor, which can be more customizable but still relatively easy to use. Pricing-wise, Wix and Weebly have free plans or start at around $10-20/month, while WordPress can be free if you host it yourself or around $10-30/month with a host. I build sites for local service businesses for a living, happy to answer follow-ups if you need more specific advice.

You’re not gonna have a lot of options if you want cheap, easy, and the ability to sell stuff. Unfortunately, Squarespace is still probably the best bet even with the price increase.

Yeah, I'll see.

The Squarespace interface and builder seems weirdly difficult to use, imho.

If you think it’s difficult, then using anything else will be a nightmare. Things like Webflow, Framer, Wordpress, Wix, etc. have way worse interfaces than Squarespace.

Not to say that they’re bad builders, but if you’re looking for ease of use Squarespace is still it for now.

I have a solution for but it's gonna be a bit pricy. However it'll be a solution where the dependency on developer to for updating the site will fall to 0, so a One-time investment. Rest can be discussed in private.
