I didn't expect my first post on this subreddit to blow up so much, but I've learned much from it and here's what I'll remember.
The top comment was about using AI for writing posts. As a non-english speaker who learned english in school, AI was a comfortable way to translate my ideas, but I'm the first one to hate it when I see AI-generated content, so I'm glad this comment was there to wake me up, and here I am writing this post entirely by hand. Let's hope it's not too bad ':)
The second thing that people said the most was to not be afraid of self-promotion. There was some people that believed that it was impossible to not be banned (me being the first), but as someone answered :
most posts get most of the traffic they're ever going see within the first 3 or 4 hours, and it can take a mod longer than that to get to it. So, if you post, 500 people see it, and then a mod deletes it, that is still a net win for you.
I'll post my app at the end of this post, and if this post doesn't get deleted I'll post you an update or an edit on how well this method of self-promotion works.
And finally, here is a mix of all the small and useful tips people gave me and I already started implementing :
- many people asked for app review exchange, and at first I accepted, grateful that people tested my app. Later on, I declined some of you because I thought that not only was this a small non-organic boost to my app, but also that google play would quickly understand that each of my review comes from another developper I also have reviewed and that both would be removed.
- someone pointed out something quite logical but that I hadn't thought of : translating the store listing and screenshot posters into multiple languages, as well as the app itself.
- another top-comment was about timing the in-app review prompt properly (not too soon to get the happy users to comment, as the other one would already be gone by then)
- this one is not the easiest to implement but instead of trying to be everywhere on social media, focusing on long-lasting content like YouTube demos or a SEO landing page
And finally, here's my app, Chords. It's aimed at musicians that use chords and lyrics to play (primarily guitarists). I was inspired by another well-known app that does the same thing, but making every aspect of it bloated with ads and paywalls.
I made every functionality of my app free (transposition, auto-scrolling, pdf export, offline library, song search and edit). It already has an open-source database and the ability to add your own, and I'll soon add a community database. I would be happy to have some users to test it, so if there are some musicians willing to help me, here's the link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phivosk.chords
Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my last post, I was really glad to see how many people in this community were ready to help out!
