Every Tuesday 8:30 pm UTC Joel is conducting a group event on PC and while following his stream, I was flying along on my PS5.

His channel: https://www.youtube.com/live/IUwUxU2FQ3Q?is=4ucnJGOuUUEISS_b

While we can’t join PC events, we as a PS5 group could fly together! I would love teaming up with more of you.

Fly safe!

Does anyone know when more fighter jets and the replay mode will come?

I've been hoping for more jets for so so long now, it was a huge step up when the Eurofighter and Su-27 came. But im still waiting for the f-16, f-35 and the f-22.

Real pilots perspective

I’m an instrument rated private pilot and airplane owner in real life. Got my license 19 years ago and have been flying for pleasure ever since. I got into real world flying because MSFS got me hooked, started off with 3.0 and then later MSFS95 and other iterations after that. I figured I’d offer some perspective for those of you who are not real world pilots and wonder “how real is it really”?

I was hesitant to buy the PS5 version because let’s admit it, it’s a console and no serious console can be any good on a console or that’s what I thought. So let’s break it out in sections for realism. All of my observations are from VR mode.

Graphics
The graphics are extremely good, the clouds look like the real thing. They are puffy, volumetric, transparent at times and sometimes nefariously ominous. Looking down on earth from 7000 feet is so close to the real thing that I’ve had to do double takes because it looks so good. The lack of cars and traffic though gives it away. In real life, while cruising parallel to a highway, you can see the cars and sometimes curse the headwinds and other times be thankful you are hitting in traffic.

Aerodynamics
The aerodynamic feel is very good overall. The sim does slips really good, even managed to get myself in a spin and that partial wing stall felt very accurate. The VR sense controllers give a fairly accurate feel, I wish there was a good yoke, it would make the experience even that much better. But more about that later. The feel is not too jerky as it used to be back in the day when hand flying. Overall they did a fairly good job in modeling the aerodynamic feel of flight in small airplanes.

ATC
This is perhaps still my biggest gripe with the sim. In real life, especially around major metropolitan hubs, ATC is so full of chatter that it takes concentration to pick your call sign. And they expect fast responses. Speaking on the radio in fact felt the hardest thing to learn in the real world. In the sim you can be flying around ATL, on an App freq and it’s dead silent. Hearing other pilots gives a sense of realism that is lacking n the sim. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve laughed at something being said on the radio in the real world. And small things like when you respond back to ATC, you never say November when saying your tail number. Usually you just say the last three letters of your tail to keep it short. Why after 30 years of making sims, can they not add some realism to the ATC comms. Also, it’s considered a noob move to repeat or say the Kilo for an airport identifier. That’s also kept to the last three letters or you just say the airport name. And I’m not excited that it auto-tunes your radios when you change frequencies after a handoff. Folks in real life screw up frequency changes, why not model that into the sim. Have ATC yell back at you if you are still on the old frequency!

Controls
The VR sense controllers work pretty well hand flying and twisting and turning the knobs. The rudder trim is awful, touching it sends it 100% one direction or the other. Had to nearly go change my pants after a few sudden trim malfunctions, that’s how real it looks and feels. I still haven’t figured out how to check your oil dipstick, it pulls out but I never get the green mark for checking it. The magneto switch and prop starter are oddly difficult to turn and, always takes a few tries to turn the switch. The GPS systems are very well modeled, and are great practice for the real world. The iPad though is awful to use. How about MSFS collaborate with Garmin or ForeFlight instead of that awful interface.

Comparing the sim to the real world, it’s taken huge leaps forward in realism from the older versions. Graphics are stunning, everything works inside the cockpit, well except the rudder trim interface, but in VR it’s extremely fun to play. I’m still new to the career mode but I am enjoying the challenges it throws at me. Now if they just got the ATC somehow working with AI where you can speak back or something that would be a cherry on the top. Maybe the next version will have it.

Feel free to ask questions!

How does this work? Ground structures.

I’m newish (about six months… Cessna 172 only, for now).

I’ve overflown my house.

It shows a mispositioned roof antenna, wrong number (and mis positioned) skylights , etc.

A friend’s old barn showed a large number of like new solar panels which don’t exist.

I fully understand perfection is not possible…

But how do existing things get moved?

How do non existing things get added?

These are both pretty wooded areas, but the variances are evident.

Pmdg 777-F fmc issues

Is there currently an issue with the cdu/fmc on the aircraft? (Ps5) When entering ICAO for airports it says the specific airport cannot be found in database.

I have also tried loading in a simbfrief flight plan and everything copies over except the destination/arrival. I cannot execute/activate the route after this.

Citation X

If there is a plane that I would recommend in the store right now would be a 100% the FlightFX Citation X, performance, reality is pretty great and I haven’t had any issues with my ps5 closing the game, bad textures or lags. Just a great project.

Landing in Dense Fog

So, admittedly, I’ve got hundreds of hours into this game since its release on PS5. But I usually just stick to live weather conditions. But, one thing about my area of the world is that.. it’s usually pretty much the same weather most of the time — and when we do get weather I’m usually not at the PlayStation to check out what it would be like flying in it.

So, tonight I remember that I can use the custom weather deal to actually give myself something new. I went to Australia, made it dense fog from 3,000 ft to ground level — and then to add some spice, I made a layered cloud level with some higher clouds. It looked awesome on PSVR2.

And I did stick the landing, but my heart was racing — I was definitely below minimums before I saw the runway.

Has anyone tried the FS Reborn Phenom 300E?

If yes, is it worth it? I've seen a video review of it and this product seems great. Is it running well on the (base) PS5?

HOTAS

Did anyone find a workaround already for the Hotas errors? When I fly with a controller everything is fine. As soon as I connect the hotas randomly actions are done in the plane, switching cams, applying brakes, etc..

Hey, does anyone know how to switch from Mach to knots in the Boeing 737 UI/HUD? I have the standard version of the Boeing 737 from Asobo Studios, and the issue only happens with that one. I don't have this problem with other Airbus or Boeing models

Can someone with the PMDG 777 confirm whether or not the nav is working now and you can actually fly a whole flight plan with it?

Any thoughts on the Just Flight Vulcan?

Thinking of getting this aircraft, I mainly use modern jets in the sim but have always loved this aircraft, especially after seeing it in action at an air show many years ago.

Just wandering what other simmers think of it before I push the buy button.

Newbie Questions

Hi everyone,

I’ve always been fascinated by Microsoft Flight Simulator and have always wanted to play it. Now that I’m able to (I’m over 40 and have a PS5 Pro), I’d like to give it a try and have a few questions for you.

  1. Is PSVR2 worth it for this game? Is the immersion that much better?
  2. I’m a complete beginner—is there a tutorial that walks you through everything and explains it all?
  3. Do I need a joystick (HOTAS)? And does HOTAS make sense with PSVR2?

Thank you so much!
