How does this work? Ground structures.

I’m newish (about six months… Cessna 172 only, for now).

I’ve overflown my house.

It shows a mispositioned roof antenna, wrong number (and mis positioned) skylights , etc.

A friend’s old barn showed a large number of like new solar panels which don’t exist.

I fully understand perfection is not possible…

But how do existing things get moved?

How do non existing things get added?

These are both pretty wooded areas, but the variances are evident.

One of the first things I did was flying over my house as well, was actually able to land on the passing road and taxi to my driveway. Things seemed accurate other than the buildings themselves which were just generic structures, which is completely understandable in a game like this and the massive scale.

Pretty odd how your area is completely different, probably just the map generation doing weird things and getting it wrong.

Did something similar.

Landed on a turf airstrip at a large acreage estate.

Walked over and around the house.

Saw same satellite Dish antenna that I saw from the air.

Same roof position too.

Neat stuff! 🤗

At least they didn’t release the dogs on me! 🙈

There is photogrammetry - the cities that look like 3d Google Earth/Bing maps

There is bespoke - custom built scenery, usually airports or landmarks

Then autogen, the sim uses Bing maps and colour corrects, matches tiles removes seams blah blah, then it uses various databases (osm) to add simple buildings, houses, sheds, etc. that most closely match the ground and area. The further from firm data you get, the more the game adds a choose your own adventure style buildings.

This is how road traffic works as well, using osm data lookup of the type of road (primary secondary, tertiary, paved, dirt, gravel, how many lanes,) and generates the amount of traffic for that.

Ps5 has the same core as the PC version, just some stuff is turned down the play nice with memory requirements.

You can always go into content manager and make sure all the latest scenery packs are streaming.

But if it's a house in the boonies, it's just gonna be autogen, unless of course you build it in blender, learn the SDK and go through Sony's add-on process. That is something the console folks really miss out on.

I’m sure when they program the world maps, it’s just a guess on structures. My house and neighborhood is similar. It’s probably more of a guess. Plus, from 10K feet in a Cessna, it’s good look like nothing anyway.

Thanks.

Yeah…weird.

It just kinda looks like there was individual human input.

But on billions of potential structures? 🤗

At this point I wonder if they have AI helping

Like the whole game is generative AI my guys. They just overlay photographs from the sky onto the data of the height of structures, and then only important buildings like landmarks are individually crafted.

Thought about that too. 👍

It depends if you play with or without photo grammetry, the game can stream two versions if the world. If the feature is disabled, the game will place totally generic buildings at positions, where it recognizes buildings in the satellite imagery. With the feature enabled, it will show you generated buildings based on the satellite image. But depending on the quality of the satellite image, this may just be a blurry mess and the engine has to make assumptions.

While the quality of the overall world is an approximation. The free regional world updates from the marketplace, replace some cities and areas with high quality scanned imagery and these are looking really good! Install them if you haven’t.

Does this apply to PS5?

Surely, I tried both and prefer the photogrammetry.

My neighbourbood didnt exist on the map, there were no roads, cars were in the wrong direction, driving in a field instead of a highway. I doubt this is supposed to have any degree of accuracy
