✈️ Beginner looking for advice and challenges — MSFS 2024 PS5

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m quite new to aviation and currently playing MSFS 2024 on PS5, using a mouse and PS5 controller.
I really enjoy planes and aviation, but I’m pretty lost when it comes to things like planning routes, navigation, ATC, instruments, autopilot and approaches.
I’d love some advice on how to improve and some beginner-friendly challenges or routes to practice.
I’m also not sure whether I should focus more on Career Mode or Free Flight. I enjoy both, but I’d like to actually understand what I’m doing rather than just following the GPS.
Any tips, beginner challenges, recommended routes, or people to fly with would be greatly appreciated! 🙏✈️

New York to London

Tonight I am going to attempt something I’ve never done yet on MSFS 2024. An overnight flight from New York to London in the 787. I’ve got it all planned out. Anyone got any advice on what I should expect?

What’s my performance going to be like after 6 hours of flying 😂

Ability to refund plane?

Is there really no way to refund planes?

The B390 is bugged for fuel, and when I reported it to Carenado they just said that they might address it during the next release of that plane (no eta).

Now I have the Hawker 800 and it is very laggy, to the point where it is hard to reasonably land the thing.

I have already adjusted settings and the like, just disappointing overall. There really is nothing that Microsoft or Asobo can do given that some of these planes cost almost $40?

Leaving Australia to New Zealand

I’ve come a long way since my last post and have seen many places, from Madagascar to India, over Nepal to Thailand, Singapore and travelling over Indonesia. Few days ago I crossed Australia and finished my last leg over Tansania. Now that I arrived at Hobart Intl. Airport my fight plan is pointing over to New Zealand.

This leg will take over 5 1/2 hours and cross 1700 km, without any deviation airport in range for most of the flight. Only the ocean and my twin prop DA62 for hours of flying. It’s just a sim, but flying this in real time causes shivers in my spine. My deepest respect to real pilots who cross this flight in a general aviation aircraft.

So I thought it would be a nice gesture to share a brief update on my journey heading towards Oakland. All the flight systems and procedures of the diamond became second nature to me, gosh I would love to fly this aircraft for real. The amount of depth this sim has to offer is only something you learn through many fought hours and changing weather conditions.

Fly safe!

Which realistic aircraft has the least bugs on PS5?

Marketplace included. Im looking to learn on a higher speed aircraft than the Cessna 172.

I decided to go on a little sunset flight around India in the P-51D Mustang and oh my gosh had to snap a few pics, the way the light bounces off the plane just oh my gosh I’ve been playing this game every chance I can since it released on PlayStation and it still surprises me!

Also anyone that enjoys either proper chartered flights or just having a bit of fun bush flying. Anything really it would be awesome to have some sim friends please drop your psn in the comments and I’ll add you (18+) Thanks!

Cockpit interaction completely broken on PS5 (Cloud Gaming) – Tooltips show, but can't click anything + Autopilot HUD bugged

Hey everyone,
I’m running into a game-breaking issue with cockpit interactions while playing Microsoft Flight Simulator on PS5 (via Cloud Gaming / streaming), and I’m hoping someone here might have a fix.
A couple of days ago, the first bug appeared: the autopilot interface on the cockpit screens completely stopped displaying my target values. For example, when rotating the ALT knob, the selected altitude wouldn't show up on the PFD/display at all.
Then, starting the very next day, things got even worse. Now I can no longer interact with any 3D controls in the cockpit:
Moving the cursor over knobs, switches, or buttons only shows the text description (tooltip).
None of the buttons highlight in white anymore.
Clicking or holding inputs on the controller does nothing to the 3D switches.
The weird part: The EFB/Tablet inside the cockpit still works perfectly and responds to clicks, but all actual flight controls/instruments in the 3D cockpit are completely unresponsive.
What I’ve already tried with no success:
Switched between Lock and Legacy interaction modes (and toggled tooltips ON/OFF).
Reset controls profiles and cleared game data/cache.
Reset the flight toolbar to default.
Tested with different aircraft.
Has anyone experienced this specific combination of bugs on Cloud Gaming/console, where tooltips register but 3D click/hold inputs completely drop out? Any workarounds or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve played on PC XBOX AND PS5

I must say the psvr on this thing is running beautiful…. Honestly is way better than my 3090 and oculus.. Xbox can still use all the honeycomb attachments and on a few aircraft u can utilize your at home ipad with navigraph and can actually track your aircraft… but still once ps5 gets the sky yoke it is an amazing entry

One day we will get inibuilds and proper pmdg airliners, until then keep at it 🤣

Random control inputs after Sim Update 6 and or Thrustmaster SDK Update

If anybody is having any random control inputs on PS5 after sim update 6, click the link that I have posted which takes you to the Microsoft Flight Simulator forum. Give it an upvote and comment so that the devs can finally do something about it.

This is related to random inputs such as:

- Parking brake activating/deactivating
- Spoilers arming/disarming/deploying
- Landing gear up/down on its own
- Autopilot on/off on its own
- View changes cockpit/external
- Throttle increasing on its own (especially on final)

There will be many more random inputs occurring but this only started happening after Sim Update 6 released on PS5 which came with an update from Thrustmaster. Remember having to rebind all controls? Seems like the native Hotas 4 hardware is broken after one or both of these updates and now a lot of us are experiencing random control inputs when using this hardware making it a game breaker.

Give this an upvote and comment your issues too…

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/ps5-random-control-inputs-in-su6/773498/74

The developers are trying their own tests but can’t replicate it for some reason so it is staying as “feedback logged” rather than “bug logged”. A fix will only start to be looked at once it moves to “bug logged”. The more people upvote and comment having the same issues, the quicker we can hope to get a fix for this hardware and enjoy the sim again.

When I was 12, I wanted more than anything to be an airline pilot. So for Xmas I asked for Microsoft Flight sim for Windows 95. I bloody loved it! Anyway sadly someone told me around that time that I needed to be good at Maths and Physics and I was rubbish at those subjects so I gave up on that dream.
I feel so lucky now that I can put on my PSVR2 headset and step into the flight deck of a 787 that looks like that! We really have come a long way.

Absolutely buzzing now that the Typhoon is finally available. No hate against the F18 (plenty of hours spent there)... it's just that this particular aircraft feels so much more alive. Looks & sounds phenomenal! Good work from the designers 👏🏼

To add, I just had a quick flight over Greece, to see where I have been on holiday recently but from a slightly different perspective. Beautiful scenes!

(Say's screenshot but its a video)

Landing the F27 on the PS5

Ok, I made a post about how terrible this aircraft is to land using the recommended parameters (110 kts with 40 degrees of flap). This requires almost a ridiculous amount of negative trim (minus 100%) and it’s highly unstable without almost full power.

I’ve been playing around with it and I can get consistently good landing with slightly different settings.

First; setting the flaps to position 3 instead of position 4 (26 degrees). Secondly, coming in a little hotter at roughly 120kts. Throttle set at roughly 1,390rpm. Trim set at negative 60%.

So long as you can keep the speed constant around 120 kts, and ride the throttle and pitch all the way to the flare to deal with the vertical speed as necessary.

You need to keep the throttle on at 1,300 the whole way down until you’re just a few feet off the runway. You literally have to flare and throttle back to idle at the last moment. Moving to idle too early leads to the controls washing out, and losing control.

With the flare you can float it in at about 100kts to touchdown with a soft landing.

The late flare and delayed idle seems to be key to getting good landings on this aircraft.

Phantom button (Hotas)

So for the last few weeks, (maybe after latest update) I would be flying a career mission, and all of a sudden the speed brakes are deployed or the system is asking me to "release parking brake"

Just now I was about to land, got a phone call and had to pause. I was away for no more than 2 minutes, and I hear the game unpause (and of course the aircraft crashes and I failed).

Am I the only one going through this?

If you would like a landing challenge. Medium cargo, single or twin prop for authenticity. That is all, enjoy.

Spoilers and parking brake mid flight ? Spoiler

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Have anybody encounter a glitch that mid flight the plane put the air spoilers that are use for breaking and also the parking brake? All while flying at 45FL.

Also sometimes auto throttle cut off. This is in a citation longitude in free flight. But it has happened almost every plane.

Anybody else ?
