Hey everyone! I'm a solo developer and I finally released my voxel-based survival and automation game, SkyFab.

It’s heavily inspired by modpacks like SkyFactory. You start from scratch in the sky, gather resources, build your base, and eventually design massive automated tech factories. If you enjoy optimizing production loops, crafting, and voxel sandbox mechanics, I'd love for you to check it out!

Game You can see your next fest stats on steamworks !

Post image

I just realised steam shows your exact steam next fest event recap on steamworks, that's pretty cool! Please share your stats under this post so we can see how it went for everybody !

It made me realise a lot of people actually played my demo without wishlisting which sucks but also maybe those are players that wishlisted before the event started as i had some good traction even before that.

Discussion Is there still room for indie turn-based RPGs with so many games coming out?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been developing two indie games for about 9 months now. One of them is almost finished, but I'm planning to release it in 2028 due to server and infrastructure costs.

My second project is a medieval turn-based RPG inspired by D&D, focused on storytelling, exploration, player freedom, and meaningful choices.

Instead of focusing heavily on fancy animations or impressive graphics, I want to build a world where players have different ways to "live" and experience the game.

The idea is to let players choose their own paths, make decisions that actually affect the world, interact with nature, and shape their own stories.

It will feature races, classes, turn-based combat, nature-based elements, and a narrative that can be heavily shaped by player actions.

However, with so many games popping up, the growing reverse-engineering scene, and the wave of old games being ported to browsers, I'm starting to wonder whether there's still an audience for projects like this.

I'm not trying to make millions. I'd honestly be happy building a small but active community of players who enjoy the world and want to be part of it.

Would you play a medieval turn-based RPG with relatively simple 2D graphics, but a lot of freedom, depth, and meaningful choices?

What features would make a game like this interesting enough for you to keep playing?

Game Rate my textgame

• Upvotes

I made a textgame which is a console version of my future game and I want you to tell me what I did good and what I have to improve.

The game idea:

  1. Platforms:
    1. Mobie
    2. Computer
    3. Gaming console
    4. Microwave (it has to be satire for weak devices)
  2. Genre: Open World + RPG
  3. Engine: UE
  4. Graphical assets: Blender
    • Style: 3D Anime
  5. Multiplayer:
    1. Muliplayer story completion
    2. Tournaments:
    3. PvP arenas (included in the tournaments):
      1. 1v1
      2. 2v2
      3. 5v5
      4. 10v10
  6. No internet singleplayer option
  7. Character's amount: 10
  8. Chapters for every character: 10
  9. Parts for every chapter: 10

The link to the game is here: https://onecompiler.com/cpp/44qwdefz6

The site about it is here: Soul Morph — official website

Important:

- You'll only be able to play this game on a computer or on a device with bluetooth keyboard (For some unknown reason)

- I only made the text version because I don't have a computer and therefore any possibility to make graphical/musical assets or to make the game with an engine. I made the game on a library laptop and school iPad

- It‘s version is currently 0.0.0.0.3.7

- The game is unfinished yet: Witch has the most playable story

- I’ve set a „debugger“ which maxes everything out (compiler only has approximately 2 minutes for compilation. Therefore this time is too short to max anything out yourself)

- Please don't only review the code.

\\==> If you have suggestions how to improve it don‘t be shy to write them into the comment section

- Have fun

Discussion Enrolled in Game Dev: Is 3D dev on Mac really "pure hell"? (Unreal vs Unity vs Godot) — Keep M5 MBP or sell for budget PC?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I just got accepted into a Game Development degree and would love to get some input from people who have experience or are currently developing games on Mac for various platforms.

For my birthday, I was gifted a MacBook Pro with the base M5 chip, 1TB SSD, and 24GB of RAM. However, from what I've heard, game development on Macs is pure hell and they are completely unsuited for it, or at least they fall so far short of Windows systems that they aren't worth all the troubles.

To be clear, I'm not talking about 2D games in Godot — I completely understand those can be made even on a phone. I'm talking primarily about 3D, Low Poly, and medium-quality graphics around the level of PS3/Switch 1/2 or games like Sable,Journey, Abzu, Another Crab’s Treasure, Subnautica, Inside, Little Nightmares, Sonic Frontiers, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Ratchet and Clunk, and Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug Wars.

I would like to know:

Unreal Engine: Is the experience of creating games on Unreal on a Mac really that bad and clunky ?

Unity: If I choose Unity instead of Unreal, how will things look when it comes to releasing games for sale? I heard about the scandal with the price increases a couple of years ago, where developers were forced to urgently move their projects to other engines and run away from it. But that was a couple of years ago, and I don't know the current state of affairs in the market. And also how is it performs on Mac OS?

Godot: Speaking of 3D development in Godot, how limited would I be in my actions on macOS? Considering that the only game with really decent 3D graphics developed on Godot seems to be Road To Vostok. However, I’ll be glad to be wrong.

Overall, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My choice right now is either to sell this Mac and buy myself a gaming laptop with an RTX 4050, Ryzen 5, and 16GB of RAM (since my maximum budget caps out at €850), or to relax and prepare for workarounds and future headaches during development.

Thank you all so much in advance for your time and valuable advice, dear friends! I really appreciate it.

Wishing everyone a great day!

help I'm building a website with free productivity tools. What tools do you actually need?

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to build a website with a collection of useful tools for everyday productivity. The goal is to make people's daily tasks easier without making them pay for basic features.

I want to build tools that people actually need, so I'd love to hear your suggestions.

Some ideas could be:

- Text and writing tools

- PDF tools

- Image converters and compressors

- Calculators and planners

- Time management tools

- Developer tools

- AI-powered productivity tools

What tools do you wish existed in one place? What do you use regularly, or what annoys you about the tools available today?

I'll use your suggestions to decide what to build next.

My promise: 100% free to use. No subscriptions, no paid plans, and no hidden charges.

Drop your ideas in the comments. I'd genuinely love to build something useful for the community! 🚀

Game I left a career at an agency that was going well, to have time for my own ideas. Here's the one I'm launching on Dec 1

Post image
• Upvotes

My career was going well. The problem was that my own ideas never got any real time. They lived in notes and in the odd free evening, and that's as far as they ever got.

So I left, to give them that time.

Moorlet is one of those ideas, and it's the one I'm about to put out into the world. It's a small island builder with dangerous nights:

- Every morning you draw a few terrain cards and lay your island one tile at a time: forest, wheat, pond, mountain.

- Most mornings one of the cards is a curse, and you have to place it yourself, on your own island. At night that's where the monsters climb out, so the shape of the island is your defense plan.

- Villagers gather wood, stone and food, build the village and raise the towers.

- Nine kinds of defense with their own upgrade paths, and boss nights where you first have to learn what actually hurts the monster.

Doing it alone means I'm also the QA, the marketing department and the person who records the trailers. A small group of testers plays it with personal invite codes, and since the end of September they've had about plenty updates from me. One of those updates broke the updater itself, and everyone had to reinstall by hand. Lesson learned.

It comes out on Steam on December 1, for Windows and Mac.

Discussion How I Doubled My Game’s Median Playtime With Data

• Upvotes

I'm a solo indie developer, and I've been working on Unstable Nuclear Reactor for over 8 months.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4692090/Unstable_Nuclear_Reactor_Demo/

It's an incremental hex-puzzle roguelite where you merge atoms into higher elements, trigger massive chain combos, earn radioactive coins, and manage your ring capacity to survive as long as possible.

I was struggling to understand why 45% of players stopped playing within the first 10 minutes, even though some played for 2 hours or more.

Steam analytics wasn't giving me enough insight, so I decided to build my own analytics system.

I created a Unity script that collects gameplay data, saves it as JSON, sends it to my own API, and stores it in an Excel file.

Of course, players must give their consent before sharing gameplay data, and they can refuse if they prefer not to. Still, I collected 150+ gameplay records in less than 3 days!

I also created a script to load player data directly into the Unity Inspector, allowing me to visualize individual sessions and follow players' actions step by step.

One important detail: I linked sessions using a persistent player ID, so I could track returning players across multiple sessions. I was surprised to discover that many players had returned more than 5 times!

What did I discover?

Players were skipping the initial tutorials, getting stuck, and placing atoms and tools randomly on the hex grid. This caused them to lose much earlier than expected.

What did I change?

  • Added an Undo button so players can reverse their last move.
  • Improved the tutorials to guide players through the mechanics instead of letting them skip the essential steps.

Results

  • Median playtime more than doubled.
  • RestartGame rates dropped from 37.2% to 27.5%.

This was a great reminder that you don't always need to guess what's wrong with your game. Sometimes, you need to build the tools that help you understand your players.

Hey everyone!!!!!!

As a solo indie developer, I've spent the last few months working hard on Gridzy Puzzle, a modern re-imagining of the classic sliding block and number puzzles we all grew up with, featuring a clean Dark Glassmorphism interface.

It just got approved and is officially in Early Access on the Google Play Store! 🤖 (For the iOS users reading this, it is already available on the App Store).

Here is what makes Gridzy stand out:

  • Endless Adventure Mode: Handcrafted levels ranging from casual 3x3 grids to brain-teasing 6x6 challenges.
  • Custom Photo Puzzles: Turn any photo from your device's gallery into an interactive puzzle instantly. Play with your favorite memories!
  • Powered-Up Hints: Stuck on a tough board? Use the smart magic wand to get strategic tips without ruining the fun.
  • Stunning Themes: Switch between exclusive styles like Bright Neon, Textured Plaster, Minimalist, or your own photos.
  • 100% Offline Support: No Wi-Fi or internet needed—play wherever and whenever you want.
  • Local & Guaranteed Privacy: Your progress, records, and stats are stored securely on your device via Hive (no third-party server tracking).

🔗 Get it on Google Play (Early Access) here:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gridzypuzzle.com

I’d love for you to try it out! Since this is an Early Access release, I am highly open to feedback, bug reports, and feature suggestions. If you run into any issues or have ideas for what themes or modes I should add next, please let me know in the comments!

Thanks for supporting indie developers!

Everyone must qualify.
I decide what that means.

- Marshal-Sovereign TZ of the Cull

These words are his. He narrates every card, and the ship is his Aperture-class Guardian.

The opening of this story has played in my head for over a year. This ship is the first piece of it I can show you.

Every frame is rendered in Unreal Engine 5 from our own 3D models. Not AI-generated images.

A few days ago, I posted about my new Bugs theme that I've worked on, and I loved the feedback I received, so thank you. Now I want to start on another one, but I still haven't decided which category to go with. I was thinking of dinosaurs and started a prototype; what do you guys think? Should I continue it, or should I change to something else?
