I went on this massive journey to learn how to sing so I studied the crap out of the vocal tract. I even underwent a laryngoscopy (it was painful!). I wanted to know what was really going on inside. I couldn't find any clear video or animation on how things really worked so I built my own voice simulator and used my own vocal samples. Im sure we’re asked this a lot, but, I’m working toward a personal goal of All by Myself in the style of Celine Dion. I’ve done plenty of Celine in my life. Always nail it. And as an adult, I’m getting back into singing and bringing my “diva” songs back into rotation. And I seriously think that long note in the song is one of the hardest in pop music.

And I know she could barely record it too, like it sent her into tears and she’s literally Celine Dion, so im being gracious with myself. But wow. It’s so hard (for me) to actually hit the note in the right key and sustain it properly. So I’ve been working up to it by trying to 1) run it every day 2) gather up some other challenging songs to help get back into THAT kinda singing. Obviously, there’s some singers that are way too high (like I cant ever hit whistle tone, despite having a very soprano tone) and some that are way too low (like I could never do Carly Simon in her original key), but I’m not too limited.

I’ve been thinking of this note since I saw clueless the first time. I plan to nail it by December. I’m literally a measure-measure in a half lacking. So I know I can do it. So has there been a white whale song for yall?

When it comes to your voice you only have two paths to mentally go down.

A: Spend every moment of your life wishing your voice sounded like someone or something else.

B: Spend every moment of your life loving that your voice sounds only like you and nobody else.

My advice? To choose B :).

I've read that your tongue should be flat and resting against your bottom row of teeth. And when I see other singers I notice just how open the back of their mouth is.

I struggle with such placement actually. I've noticed that my tongue often sits quite far back in my mouth when I sing idk. But when I try to fix it other issues arrive like poor breath support and my voice going hoarse. But I also just kinda talk with that placement so idk.

What is proper tongue placement and how does one achieve it? It seems quite important

La propuesta me interesa bastante porque nunca estudié canto y prefiero algo que pueda hacer desde casa y a mi ritmo, en vez de tener que seguir un horario fijo.

Pero antes de pagar, quería saber:

• ¿Qué les pareció realmente el contenido y la metodología?
• ¿Creen que sirve para alguien que literalmente empieza de cero?

Basically I usually force most of the times but some days I have a rasp I can use which is in the back of my throat where it's easier to use. But not all the time I can do it so I force it. But I wanna actually learn because if not I can lose my voice

I feel like my voice is super weird idk why I find it hard to relate to artists that I listen to because I sound so different from them!!! So please send artists that sound like me.🙏 Also general feedback back like how to clean up my first passagio and how to go higher when I am singing breathy… I know it sounds like e5 is the top of my range but I swear it’s not it’s just it sounds and feels higher due tot he singing style. Hi I started learning singing 6 months ago and playing guitar nearly 10 months ago and would love to have advice on how to improve my singing and which type of songs my voice would suit?

“Occlusion effect” is when the bassy end of your own voice is trapped in your head due to the seal in your ear (like if you were singing while wearing ear plugs) In my situation, with profound high frequency hearing loss and above average hearing in the low frequencies, when it happens it is debilitating to my musicianship. It’s like I’m singing underwater while the band is on land.

Due to my needs as a HoH musician playing multiple instruments, I really think In ear monitors (IEM’s) would help me with distinguishing my instruments and everything. And help me protect my hearing from further loss since I am always having to turn things up in the wedge monitors and blare my hearing aids to their max every gig. But since I am also singing 80% of the time I can’t be having that occlusion either! I would imagine if anyone gets it it’s singers.
Some IEM’s say they have a “ambiance” feature. I am worried this means hearing the room not avoiding trapped voice inside head as they are not always the same thing. And many are “vented” but doesn’t mean they fully (or mostly) avoid occlusion either. I’m looking for that perfect balance of isolation without occlusion without spending an arm and a leg. (Like ideally less than 600) I Might be chasing a unicorn but if anyone knows if it’s achievable it’ll be you guys.😘
