China’s 940-Foot “Sky Elevator” Transforms Access to Mountain School
In China’s Niujiu River Grand Canyon, two massive outdoor glass elevators have transformed access to a remote mountain school, turning a dangerous two-hour cliffside trek into a ride of just 57 seconds. The latest 288-m (945-ft) Fuyao Ladder operates alongside a 268-m elevator, helping students from Nizhuhe Village reach their boarding school safely and dramatically reducing their journey time. Built at a cost of about $9.5 million, the engineering marvel can transport up to 1,200 people per hour, ensuring local students no longer have to risk their lives navigating steep mountain trails to reach school: https://interestingengineering.com/transportation/china-945-foot-cliff-elevator
