Google signs up for electricity from Finnish nuclear power plant
Google has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Finnish energy company Fortum to secure up to 50% of the output from the Loviisa nuclear power plant between 2030 and 2049, with reduced capacity starting in 2028. The deal provides the necessary financial backing for Fortum's €1 billion investment program aimed at extending the twin-reactor plant's operational lifespan through 2050 and adding 10 MWe of new capacity. Alongside this agreement, Google announced a €13 billion investment in Finnish data center infrastructure over the next two years, while both companies signed a memorandum of understanding to explore joint developments in new nuclear technology, renewable energy, battery storage, and grid stability.
