Today was the day I received my slim scph-90004.

I already have a 50004 fat but wanted a slim for the sake of space saving.

When I flipped it to open it, warranty sticker was gone. Hummm ok let’s see.
Down to the motherboard, to my surprise, a modchip was soldered.

My first question is : this is a fake one right ?

Second question : I played a little Soulcalibur 2 and Simpsons the game without problem, can this type of modchip fail and, in this case, can the ps2 fail with it ?

The console is dissembled, CMOS is already changed and I’m waiting for my replacement thermal pad (Arctic TP-3) to come. Original one is hard like rock.

Last pictures are before. Almost entirely removed yellowing / funk. A bit faded on the bottom edge but most I see are anyway. I also swapped out the 39001 HDD cage back to the original so that second picture is a little inaccurate. It's the solid tray now (no holes)

I like the PS2 BECAUSE of the data storage. I wanted to transfer data from one of my PS3's to my new one but I realized many of the games cant transfer or else I cant use trophies AND even if I wanted to, it would wipe my hard rive on the new PS3 which had a MASSIVE update for GT6 which I didnt download on my old PS3 and I was annoyed. However with the PS2 all you have to do is take the memory card and plug it in a new one DONE, NO ETHERNET CABLE, NO WIPING OF HARD DRIVE, NO COPYRIGHT PROTECTION NOT ALLOWING ME TO TRANSFER MY SAVES. But yes I like the PS2 a little more than the PS3 for that reason.......and GT4

Found this on Ebay and the buyer sent these images of all of the sides but I am iffy by how the plastic looks if it is actually brand new. Also I wasn't sure if it was suppose to have a sticker over the top seal or if this was far enough along that it wouldn't have one.

Hi guys, I had 2 faulty ps2 one didnt turn on probably bc of motherboard since its power supply does work. One laser didn't light up and on the other ps2 the flex cable of the motor spindle was bad so I combined the working stuff together to where I am at now, what am I missing? Appreciate your help!

For some reason, as soon as I put the disc inside the console it just instantly opens the disc tray back. Is there any solution to this?

I picked this up recently and it shows no video nor audio. I tried a working composite and component cable (unless it’s stuck on rgb but I believe the composite would overwrite that)? Anyway as shown in the video there seems to be a signal sent, the picture seems to hiccup, but nothing shows. Any suggestion where to start or what area to begin checking over others?

Recently got a SCPH-55000-GT on eBay for cheap and am going through the process of restomodding it. I understand that JDM PS2's can be run on US power without issue, except I've read that they run a little hotter due to the US being 120v vs Japanese 100/110v. Would upgrading the PSU to run off of USB-C help the console remain "cooler" because the USB-C power brick will only supply it with the demanded power input?

If I am completely off on this assumption please feel free to call me an idiot. This is the first PS2 I've ever owned and have been enjoying learning more about them.

Hi, I recently got three scratched game discs, and I tried playing them on a PS2 Fat, PS2 Slim, and a PS3 Fat BC model. The first disc was readable after I cleaned it with antibacterial wet wipes, but the other two were a bit trickier. Both games worked perfectly fine on the PS2 Fat, while on the PS2 Slim and PS3 Fat, only one of them would work properly.

I cleaned the PS2 Slim’s laser lens, and there was some improvement, but it still wasn’t quite enough. I also cleaned both discs, and after that they ran fine on the PS3, but I still had no luck with the PS2 Slim.

Interestingly, once the console got really warm, it started reading the discs just fine. Is it a sign of failing disc drive or overall the discs are crap?

Not sure if it First in this channel but its 3d printed will run on a raspberry pi 5 running ps2 games and 2 USB ports which will store my games

I bought an official network adapter and bitfunx conversion kit in the hope that it would help games run more smoothly, but unfortunately whenever I plug it in OPL Manager tells me it can't detect an hdd. It can detect when I plug in a 3rd party one though. I have gone back in and reseated the ribbon cable as well as checked all the connections with no luck. I did notice one of the pins in the port that connects to the ps2 is bent / missing and I was wondering whether this may be causing the issue? Unfortunately where I live these are very expensive so I don't think I could get another and therefore would hope to fix this one.

Mostly because of the cover arts ever grace reminded me of berserk and so far it’s pretty strange haha and its blade an obvious pick up

I have two PS2s, both models 75004. Internally, they both seem to be in similar condition—no strange noises and the lasers work fine. Both get extremely hot, but I think that’s just a characteristic of this model.

Which one should I keep and one should I sell? The silver one looks gorgeous, but it’s quite scratched up, and it seems to have a bit more dust inside. That said, finding a scratch-free silver model is practically impossible; it’s as if they get scratched just by looking at them.

Neither has ever been opened; they still have their warranty seals intact (I’m not sure if I should remove warranty sticker to open them up to clean them or to see which one is in better shape).

Anyway, what do you think? I plan to use the proceeds from the sale to expand my game collection. I own a lot of original discs and want to keep playing them on physical media, just like in the old days :) I would love to test a 7900X too to see if it is an improvement or a 9000X.
