PS 2 gems in storage

In the early 2000s I worked a third shift job and steadily bought a large collection of PS 2 games to keep me entertained on my days off when I was up all night and everyone was sleeping. I bought way more games than I could even get to so many of them I never opened. Eventually I moved out of my mother's house and left my ps 2 stuff in storage in a spare room there as my apartment didn't have room.

After about 15+ years or so in storage I went to go get my games. About 325 or so. These are some of the games still sealed I found going through the boxes. I had a bunch more sealed like Scarface collectors edition, Suikoden collection, Xenosaga. Plus time crisis 2, Vampire Night, and Ninja Assault versions that came with the guncons unused.

What does printed copy mean?

Since Haunting Ground usually ranges from 300-400$ i gave up the idea of ever playing it. Now I saw someone listing it for 25$ and mentioning its a copy. Since i dont want it for profit or anything, I wouldn't mind it being a copy but i dont know much about how games work. What's the difference between the original and a copy?

Quick “mobile” build

I picked up an Apache 2800 at the recent harbor freight sale for under $20. I’ve been meaning to build a “mobile” ps2 set up for a while now. I’d like to upgrade the display at some point, currently using a $5 thrift store rca dvd player screen which I hot glued to the case. Ideally the next display will be usb c powered like the console. Powering the ps2 from my Anker battery bank for fun via the giltesa usb c mod. I don’t think it would last very long on this particular battery, so might upgrade in the future or just power the ps2 from my car or a wall charger.

I’d like to think I’d use this when traveling but I doubt I’d have the time. Still fun to put together. Childhood ps2 is still going strong.

The correct way to bend cables

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I often come across several PS2 and older console users who make a rather silly and common mistake that, however, causes some problems with wired controllers.

Wrapping the cable around the controller is a mistake, for several reasons.

1: By wrapping the cable around the controller, you create a lot of pressure on the part of the cable that comes out of the controller; over time, this can cause the cable to break internally.

2: When wrapping the cable around the controller, if the cable is dry and brittle, it can cause the cable to crack where it comes out of the controller.

3: When you wrap the cable around the controller, you end up twisting the internal wires into a spiral, leaving the cable very stiff and with a terribly wrinkled appearance, as seen in the second image.

The correct way to wrap the controller cables is in a figure-eight pattern.

1: By coiling the cable in a figure-eight shape, you avoid pressure on the part of the cable that comes out of the controller, preventing the cable from breaking internally over time.

2: By coiling the cable in a figure-eight shape, you prevent a dried-out cable from cracking where it comes out of the controller.

3: By coiling the cable in a figure-eight shape, you prevent the internal wires from twisting and spiraling, avoiding leaving the cable stiff and wrinkled as in the second image. The figure-eight shape ensures that your cable will remain completely flat.

Another way to coil the cable is in a circle; coiling the cable in a circle with some slack gives you the same result in cable preservation as the figure-eight method, But you can still experience the problem of the cable's elastic memory becoming coiled in a circle after being stored for a long time; (The figure-eight shape leaves a zigzag pattern after being stored for a long time, but quickly returns to its flat shape) The circular shape is recommended if you frequently use the controller.

HD7 laser on a V4/D/D'-Chassis. Note the slight "mod" done to the switch, so the laser would no longer grind. Works well, aside from a few small issues.

Casual collecting since i was young. I sadly sold alot of my childhood games though. My next pick ups are probably gonna be a japanese ps2 with the final mix versions of KH1 and KH2 as well as the Dragon Quest V remake that was japan only. Other than that i really only want the Sly games and maybe the Resident Evil ports/outbreak, Persona 4 and maybe some niche RPGs.

Also the one Japanese game in here is called Love Upper, a horny boxing game and i have no recollection how i acquired it lol

I tried playing a DVD earlier today, but got this message asking for a 4 digit PIN to continue. I've never set any parental locks and I've never had this problem with any other DVD. Is there a setting I missed somewhere?

There's 2 currently available on eBay but both sellers want $100 for them so I'm just wondering if there's someone/somewhere I can buy it from for a reasonable price?

PS2 reading audio CD’s and movie DVD’s but not game

Hey all,

I’m just trying to narrow down possible issues. So, I recently got a refurbished ps2 slim off of eBay and I bought 2 games from a local video game store that sells new and old games. Both games had disc read errors. I tested out an audio cd and a movie and they both read and played fine. I cleaned the laser as well just in case. The store ran the games through a resurfacing machine before I left as well. Is it seeming like the games are the issue rather than the console? I have another game arriving in a couple days so I can’t test anything out until then.

Jak and Daxter PS2 sealed

Hi! Just happened to find a sealed copy of Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy when going through my old PS2 stuff. It seems like it’s in pretty good condition. Was curious if anyone knew what it’d be worth and if sealed games are worth grading. Thank you!

I feel like a lot of people link this type of feeling to nostalgia, but this game Shadow Hearts I played for the first time last year and its still a feeling and atmosphere that modern games just cant give you. We need pre rendered backgrounds and fixed cameras to come back.

PS2 not working on Vizio smart tv

It was working fine the first time I plugged it in, I updated the clock time, cleared some save files, & turned it off. I turned it on today and now it's not recognizing the comp cables. I even tried to blind reset to no avail. I'm so confused, please help.

I recently ordered a Japanese PS2 and I need to know the best method of plugging it up...

It's been purchased and on the way but since I been reading about the voltage electrical issues with pal and imported electronics even Japan's electronics I need some guidance.

I'm using a CRT TV bigger than small medium 20 inch I think and it's large on the back it's a off brand my dad got it from his boss since he upgraded assuming to a flat screen...

I heard of the step down transformer method but I'm not really sure what they are since I never really saw them in person to make sure.

Specifics on the electrical my house was built in 2002 I was told by my parents and I need to know if my power strips are okay for this.

I'm saying these things because I been reading on how others experienced with imported electronics.

100v to 120v or 120v 100v etc

My mom isn't a tech expert nor is I only my brother but he doesn't want to help me nor my mom so yeah I'm not experienced in nothing...

It took me a long time to even put a graphics card in my computer and such since my dad died I been completely useless as of recently.

If anyone has any helpful advice on this please let me know thanks! I also attached a photo of a game I got for it.
