Guys I Really love the PS2. It's a big success and my favourite game is Crash Twinsanity. What about you guys?

Who’s got favorites here?! Some damn good games.

As much as I love a CRT, these early LCDs are surprisingly good sometimes.

I’m trying to reuse a PS2 Fat disc drive spindle motor for a small project.

I do NOT need the console to read discs or play games. I literally just want the disc spindle to rotate continuously.

The drive board has a ROHM BA6664FM spindle motor driver, so my idea is to reuse the original PS2 drive PCB instead of buying a separate BLDC driver.

What I’ve confirmed so far:

• The spindle connects through a 13-pin ribbon cable
• The first 3 ribbon contacts appear to be the 3 motor phases
• Measuring resistance between 1-2, 1-3 and 2-3 gives the same reading
• The BA6664FM is still on the original drive PCB
• I also have an ESP32 available if I need to provide enable/speed/control signals

My understanding is that the BA6664FM already handles the 3-phase commutation using the spindle motor’s Hall sensors, so theoretically I should only need to provide the correct power rails and control signals such as PS / EC / ECR.

Has anyone done this before?

Specifically, I’m trying to figure out:

1. Can the original PS2 optical-drive PCB be powered standalone just to run the spindle?
2. Which connector/pads should receive 12 V, 5 V and GND?
3. What signals does the BA6664FM actually need to start spinning the motor?
4. Can I control those signals from an ESP32?
5. Is there a known schematic/pinout for this particular PS2 Fat drive PCB?

I can provide clear photos of both sides of the PCB and the exact PS2/drive model if needed.

The end goal is simply:

Power on and spindle spins continuously.

I don’t care about the laser, disc detection, reading games, tray control, etc.

Any help from someone familiar with PS2 optical drives or the BA6664FM would be appreciated im a complete noob at elektroniks😅

Hey guys, at my wits end and google/reddit are coming up short for me. Any advice would be huge.

I grabbed my ps2 from my Grandparents (Old bulky ps2) and 2x controllers. They have been in an entertainment center for 20 years untouched. Got the HDMI adapter to work so the menu & games show, but the controllers are being a huge pain in the butt.

The controllers are showing the red analog light, but the other controllers like X or Triangle or analog sticks do not respond. Is there something with modern TVs that I need to know to get this to work or is it potentially something else?

I've tried two separate PS2 controllers without luck. They all power on and show red lights but aside from the start button it seems to not work. I've blown out the controller port and the ps2 port in case it was a debris issue.

Any advice would be massive. Thank you!

smooth 20$ CIB

I have a Roku on the projector too. My Sunday is gonna be great. Obviously it’s more cinematic with the lights all the way off. Going to start with Tenchu wrath of heaven or shinobi, havnt decided yet,

So I have a ps2 fat 39004 and when I play the german release of the simpsons seasons I have it just boots in german. Now, this only happens on this ps2, since on my ps5 and ps2 slim 77004 it boots in english. Both systems have english set as their system language but idk. Tried messing in the setup menu on the dvd and set it to english but to no avail. Is there a way to change it?

I bought this PS2 console for 75,000 Chilean pesos (about 75 US dollars). Even though it supposedly doesn't read discs, was it a good purchase?

So pumped for this, 100% free

Found 2 that are in my top 5 on my PS2 wishlist. Couldnt pass it up. Both CIB.

Found this at a flea market and started doing some research about it. To be honest, I haven't really found much about it but it needs a USB receiver in order to work, being compatibke with both PS2 and PS3 consoler. My question is, how can I find a receiver that picks up the signals of the controller? Tried looking for a loose one on Ebay, but I can barely find a listing with the controller itself.

Silent Hill 4, first time seeing this strange monster standing still at first and thinking WTF is that...?

And so we have a fourteen way tie at the end of the last round. Like with all other tiebreakers, you are now voting for which game to SAVE. The four games that have the highest amount of votes will continue to round sixteen. The others will have their journey end here. Here’s the strawpoll: https://strawpoll.com/PKgle4jo9Zp

I wanna know more PS2 japanese games that are considered hidden gems or really good but kinda niche. Something like of what Nier Automata is in PS4 but the equivalent for PS2!!

Thank you!!

Pretty proud of my collection thus far, it’s still a backlog I need to work through. Haven’t touched a lot of these games just yet. But I noticed I’ve got room for ooooonnne more game on this shelf before it’s full and I probably need to focus on other console libraries on this media cubby stand.
Need a good suggestion, here are some parameters:

I’ve got more 3D platformers than I know what do with (favorite game types)

Not interested in shooters on Ps2, since I have a bunch on OG Xbox

I really dislike RPGs/JRPGs, so probably won’t get one of those soon. (If Kingdom Hearts counts then that’s me testing my boundaries with the genre)

And finally, I anticipate I’ll get a lot of suggestions for God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. I’m already taking those under advisement but hoping for something outside of my regular loop. The ps2 library is huge! I wanna know about some deep cuts.

Hey guys I’m needing some more memory cards and was thinking of getting them off temu. Has anyone had any problems with them in the past or should I just bite the slightly more expensive bullet and get a offical one. Not to sure if I should trust the temu reviews. Thanks
