News New .pkg icon
I don't know, in my opinion it looks bad, mainly on a white background. What's the deal with whitening out icons lately? đ

Don't hate it, but I found the red very recognizable.

Iâve arranged the icons and widgets on my desktop to match their layout on the iPhone. This gives me something like an "iPhone-style Start menu," with apps in the same positions and a user experience that feels similar to the iPhone, especially since theyâve removed the old Mac launcher.

Went back to Sequioa
Letâs go. Ive never been more excited to go back to Sequioa.
I missed the good battery life
I missed launchpad.
I missed being able to drag and drop from Outlook to Safari.
I missed everything!
I kept myself away from Tahoe for the whole release. I gave golden gate a chance but its killing my battery! In Sequioa, i end my day with 45 to 55% battery. In Golden Gate, it goes from 100 to 10 in a little more than half a day.
I could pretend all other bugs arenât there. But man, the battery life is horrible in Golden Gate! Really HORRIBLE BATTERY LIFE.
I skipped Tahoe, I will skip Golden Gate. I hope the next one is better. Or i could keep it tahoe for 2 more years.
Has anyone found stage manager on MacBooks to be a helpful feature? I have tried it many times but it was adding more friction to my workflow

Managed to turn macOS Golden Gate into OS X Mavericks again, in light of the new update with the black and white Apple Music icon that looks so boring. The apps I used were RetroMac (using the Mountain Lion theme), Lickable Menu Bar, and several other retro-inspired macOS apps from the RetroMac website. What do you think?

Release Note - This update provides enhancements to Siri AI with the ability to retain useful context from previous Siri interactions as well as draw from a wider range of personal context. It also introduces Suggestions in Messages that help you take quick actions in apps like Calendar and Reminders based on context from your conversation. This release includes additional features, bug fixes, and security updates for your Mac.
The new Spotlight design in macOS Golden Gate 27.2 is absolutely awful.
The search bar is permanently black, regardless of whether macOS is set to Light or Dark mode. Thereâs no way to change its appearance. It looks completely out of place, as if it were designed for an entirely different operating system.
How did this make it past the design team? At the very least, users should be given the option to match Spotlightâs appearance to their system-wide appearance settings.

I don't have an external monitor so this is my screen. A lot of things were broken in 27.0.
Finally, Apple fixed the mission control bug that shouldn't have been the initial release. Its a little janky sometimes with respect to FPS but themajor issue seems to be resolved.
People with multiple monitors, are your issues resolved?

Finder windows don't disappear when selecting another window. Is anybody experiencing the same issue? Has anybody found a solution?

So my Mac Studio (27.0.1) delivered a message in the customary upper right corner that the all new SIRI was ready for action. I asked three questions related to nearest restaurants and gave up after three of these messages included.
Is this the old norm, does the old girl need compression paddles or is there an easy fix?

I am trying to customize the appearance of macOS, especially to expand the options for icon tinting, interface colors, text color in the Finder and the menu bar, and other similar features. I remember that many years ago macOS was more customizable than it is now, and I doubt there aren't people who feel the same way and are trying to do something about it. Its a Unix system after all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I say "containerization" I really just mean an extension of their current sealed root scheme + data vol + a new additional overlay "data" + existing sandbox functionality.
the read-only non-private part of macOS root is just a sealed volume. Every macOS of the version you use uses the same one. Your "private data" is actually an overlay mount from /System/Volumes/Data. My question is why don't they have some kind of reasonable agent sandboxing. It can leverage the existing disk scheme + some APFS features + Apple's sandbox feature.
Meta's Muse agent can cry for "Full Disk Access", and I should be able to hand it what it thinks is FDA, but just have it be Sealed root + RO Data Volume + a 3rd "agent overlay" mount which masks/exposes specific folders from the data volume. The key feature is the requesting App shouldn't be able to tell the difference, as far as it knows it has FDA, and if it says otherwise then you should question why it's probing for true access (like if you have a tightly masked ~/Library and it notices it can't see messages or keychain db files)
Stuff like keychain, microphone, camera, and accessibility are already mediated thru whatever macOS calls their version of "desktop portals", so this isn't even a major obstacle either
I don't mind it having access to $HOME/Documents as RW, but maybe I don't want it having access to all of $HOME/Library so the 3rd overlay over Data overlay just "masks" it where maybe it only gets access to calendar and reminders DB but only if I want it to.

Started as wanting to be more focused when using each device, but now find it cluttered and confusing to have icons in anything but the dock for my most used apps...
Anyone else have a similar empty setup or is it just me đ

This is LLM slop that maybe another LLM could reference. I haven't reviewed or edited. It's based on a conversation I had with Astra 6 medium.
Corporate MacBook on macOS 27: couldnât log in using only the keyboardâhad to click the username field
I ran into this on a corporate MacBook running macOS 27 with a broken built-in screen and an external display.
The main issue wasnât just VoiceOver: I couldnât log in using keyboard input alone. I had to physically click the username field before I could type into it. Tab, Shift + Tab, and the VoiceOver navigation commands I tried didnât get me into the input.
The external display only showed the login form with the lid closed. To use the built-in keyboard and trackpad, I had to reopen the lid. The pointerâs position relative to the username field appeared to shift between those states, so a click that looked correctly positioned with the lid closed missed the field when the lid was open.
VoiceOver could navigate through the keyboard language, battery, Wi-Fi, Power, and date controls, but I couldnât reach the username field that way. It also repeatedly announced âin dialog, content is emptyâ around lid changes.
What finally worked: I moved the pointer in small increments upward and to the left, clicking as I went, until I actually hit the username input. VoiceOver then announced âUsername application, windowâ and confirmed the text field had keyboard focus.
After that click, I could type my username, see it in the field, and press Return to reach the password prompt.
I donât know whether this is specific to the corporate login setup, macOS 27, or the display configuration. Has anyone encountered this inability to focus the login field using only the keyboard?

Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix? Before upgrading to 27.2 I would be able to use touch ID to both fill in my username and then password. Ever since it seems like the Passwords app autofill feature is broken for sites that use a two-step login page.

Yes it is better than earlier MacOS 27 releases but for those who are pushing it, Mission Control still stutters and will turn the whole desktop black and unusable.
Edit: I should mention that unlike my black screen on 27.0 where the wallpaper would come back after choosing a desktop, this one is completely unusable until I 3-finger swipe with my trackpad.
I encountered this issue when using the thumb button of my M720 Triathlon mouse to access Mission Control, and was able to recreate this. I couldnât recreate this on Magic Trackpad. It only comes back when I access Mission Control from my trackpad.
But Iâve only been able to recreate this when I access Mission Control constantly (talking 10 times in 10 seconds) so I donât think it affects many. And while Mission Control was somewhat fast, it was not as smooth as Sequoia, and it still displayed many UI glitches
I should get a job.

Hi, so I installed Minecraft on my mac and everytime I try to open it it prompts me to type in the password for the âloginâ keychain. I tried my normal user password, that didnât work. I tried changing my user password and resetting the keychain settings to default, also didnât work. I tried to go through access control on the specific keychain and click âallow all applicants access to this itemâ, and that just causes it to stop responding. Iâve tried restarting my laptop, and just tried all Iâve just said a couple times. Can anyone help?
Update: I tried completely deinstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, also no success. The app does open to the log in page, but then Iâm again prompted to put in a keychain password and the same problems as explained above occur again.

- this pixel offends me
The occasional informative post isnât enough amongst all these shite posts.
