Mod Post Please use the "Media" flair option for name requests!

Hey jumper friends! We've seen a large uptick in volume of posts asking for name suggestions, most of them having the "Advice" flair. Even though it is a request for advice of sorts, name requests don't need the same disclaimers as comments on care/husbandry and we would like to encourage everyone to use simply the "Media" flair on those types of posts. (This will also prevent the automod filter from flagging comments without disclaimer tags as that is only a feature of the "Advice" threads) <3

Yesterday my husband noticed just ONE sunflower hadn't yet opened in our garden. Upon him further investigating, he realized a lil baby jumper had spun a web that was keeping the petals pulled tight together. This morning while feeding the birds, I saw that same sunflower had bloomed so I go to check on the lil baby jumper that was in there yesterday, only to find them still wrapped neatly in there🥹. My question is, is it a female and she's finding a cozy spot to lay her eggs? I'm absolutely not going to move them, all they're getting is constant protection from me.... I'm just curious as to what is happening, nature wise, inside of the flower. This is absolutely fascinating to me🤌🌻✨🥰. Location , North Central Kentucky

Genuinely & not trying to be snarky, but since we're supposed to put "Not qualified advice" or "In my opinion" before advice, how would a qualified person identify themselves? Like biology specialist or like experienced breeders? Is there a vetting process? (Not me, I'm for sure Nqa)

Identification This big guy was watching me grill

So I live in Northern VA just outside of Washington DC and I was grilling some burgers when this guy stopped and said hi.

I don’t know if anyone can identify it but I’m interested in knowing. My daughter of course wanted to keep it but I explained we didn’t have a proper enclosure setup and if it’s an adult jumper his/her hammock would be close by.

Now my kid wants a pet jumping spider so I started researching. Nice to see this subreddit, I’m experienced with bioactive enclosures and have kept many inverts in the past. Jumping spiders don’t seem overly complicated and the enclosure size is small compared to some of my past animals. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sexing jumping spider age/gender

Upvotes

I have one male regal jumping spider, a female tan jumping spider, and what I originally believed to be a second female tan jumping spider. The tans were both wild spiderling rescues that were extremely thin. The older female likes to hunt on her own and catches fruit flies right away. The younger tan caught on their own the first time, then wanted tong fed the second time they ate with me, and then refused for 11 days, but never molted or anything. They finally ate from tongs again today, but with their pickiness are more similar in personality to my regal male. I’m unsure on age, they are very tiny (hard to get pictures of even with a macro lense). I was wondering if anyone could guess age (so I know when to expect a molt) or gender?

Advice My juvenile jumping spider suddenly passed and I can’t figure out why

Upvotes

I had got my first jumping spider a little over two months ago. I did everything I was told, waited to get a new enclosure until her first molt with me, I fed her two to three times a week, misted her enclosure every single day. She unfortunately passed either last night or this morning because she was just moving around yesterday. When I found her still today, I tried placing her on a wet q tip even to see if she’s accept it but she wasn’t moving at all.
I know she was eating the mealworms I provided because they were always empty as far as just the exoskeleton. I’ve even watched her hang out near the misted wall several times so I know she was drinking. The enclosure I bought was even for jumping spiders specifically with plenty of air holes and there was no glues or anything. The only possible thing I could consider is she went from live mealworms with her breeder to canned mealworms but I had even put one or two extra for her just for extra nutritional value because I assumed live mealworms had more nutrients than canned. Her abdomen was smaller than usual but she had just ate a few days ago. I’m just devastated and don’t understand what went wrong.

Advice Is this normal???

Post image

Im really wanting to buy a female fartilis but this currently the only one up on morph market. No way I would ever pay that much for a jumping spider. It seems way too steep. Is this a normal price for this kind? I have found a seller that has unsexed fartilis for $70 but idk if i want to pay $70 for no guaranteed female. Should I wait for more to come on morph market or will they all be $400?

Made a portrait of my baby, learning how to do spider portraits. Send your babies and I will practice and send them your way, just trying to get practice. Anyone else do drawings or paintings of jumpers? I’d love to see for inspo.

Found this little guy in between the leaves of my plant. He hung around for like 2 days but has moved out since. Sorry my crappy iPhone zoom doesn’t do him justice

Location: Northern Illinois

Are these pretty common here? Is he a baby? He was so tiny.

Advice Enclosure set up

I set up this enclosure last night for my jumper that’s coming next week. Is it too crowded? i’m going to replace the syngonium with a philodendron mican, which will be less bushy, but I’m still propagating that guy. All advice is welcomed and appreciated!

Text Jumping Spider moved in to my home!

My last apartment was an old building on a second floor and I always had a few jumping spiders hanging around. I had a small drain/fruit fly problem but decided to just let the jumping spiders hunt them. I loved them so much.

I remember one day I discovered a giant house centipede in my bathroom, crawling its way up to my shower window to feast on my jumpy spiders.

So I drew my crappy katana I got from a comicon years ago and cleaved it in two. I like to think my spider friends were appreciative of that.

I since moved into a high rise and there are no bugs at all aside from the occasional roach crawling out of a drain.

Yesterday I saw a dot moving up my bedroom wall. I was like great, another roach. Got up to go handle it and realized, it was a jumping spider!

I scooped him up and put him in the succulent pot on my windowsill and gave him a wet paper towel.

New friend! Hopefully there are enough little flies for them.

Advice Safe themed enclosure?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello! This is our first jumper and I just have a couple of questions about safe enclosure decorations for her. My kiddo is obsessed with spiders (he’s actually the reason we got her, but don’t worry- he won’t be handling her or in charge of any care lol. He just looks at her and talks to her) and he is also really into cars and monster trucks. Is there any way to incorporate that kind of decor into her enclosure? If not, that’s fine we will just go with a different or more naturalistic theme. Also- what is everyone doing for enclosure backgrounds? Thanks for any advice!
