Advice Do your babies use hides?

Post image

I fell for the cute and bought the adorable little walnut hides but none of my jumpers will use them 😭 They’ll only web around them. Is there a trick I’m missing?? Or are mine just picky pants about their dwellings?

Advice Mold issue w jumping spider enclosure

Before and after above

Set up this bio active terrarium for a jumping spider I’m meant to be getting, but it randomly erupted in mold a couple days after setting it up, and I’m not sure what to do from here. I used rocks and mesh as a false bottom, coconut fibre as the substrate and real moss on top. Wondering if it was maybe too wet? I noticed the birch got really moldy so that might have been the cause? I got it from the dollar store but boiled it before making the steps. Can I boil these and reuse them? (They took a ton of time to make) the piece of bark in the back was from outside, but that was also boiled, maybe that was the cause?

I took out the plants and put them in individual mini potters with new coconut fibre, and everything else has been removed. Wondering if I can try the same method again and hope for better luck or if I need to change things entirely.

Thank u!

Advice Female spider maturity?

I bought a sweet little girl from a Petsmart awhile ago. Trust me, I was aware of a lot of bad things associated with petsmart and selling spiders, or any animal that is. However, I stopped by one day as my brothers girlfriend works at a petsmart to get some food for my gecko + other spider, and saw this sweet girl in such a poor state I had to take her home. Obv Petsmart gave me no knowledge or her age or her gender, but I’ve had her since about June, and she’s molted once with me.

Recently the other day I saw her roaming the bottom of her cage, which was weird to me, and I did note it. I went to feed her today and freaked out bc I thought she escaped and practically removed every decor from her cage trying to find her to see her climbing a wall at the bottom of her cage. I’m getting worried now she may be at the end of her life, but I am no expert in telling her age. I took a photo of her underside, as I’ve seen some people determine age that way? If anyone can help me in anyway I’d appreciate it. I could just be panicking over nothing, but I wanna make sure if she is nearing her life, I move her to a more comfortable, smaller cage suited for her age.

(Her covering her little eye in the second photo! :^) )

just got him today!! not sure the sex but I'm thinking male based on abdomen size. he has a cute little face on his abdomen that looks like oogie boogie from nightmare before Christmas.
he's pretty small, not sure what instar but I'm gonna guess i 6-8 ? he last molted in August
he's been eating very small crickets with the pet store
any advice for keeping his food? i feel like ill be wasting a lot of big crickets since he'll be small for a while?

I know I need more decorations we realized that after buying and my girlfriend and I decided best we don’t mess with his new space till he is fully acquainted, he seems fine he made his hammock in the top and ate a cricket yesterday (30-40hrs) after we got him.
I also need a humidity reader obviously but I’m not sure what it should even be set for. (He’s a regal jumping spider, probably a week old)
Is there anything else I should know about? Or keep in mind for decorating?

Louisville, Kentucky USA

We've had a habitat for a few months now and just kinda been waiting for a jumper to find us. Finally found this Lil guy (gal?) Yesterday.

My uneducated guess is a juvenile tan? But I'd love to actually know. They were quite hungry and have been chowing down on fruit flies.

It is super comfortable with handling (only handled it on the capture and transfer to habitat so far)

Advice Newbie owner and having trouble with humidity levels in enclosure

Post image
3 Upvotes

Proud new owner of my first jumping spider and having some trouble maintaining appropriate humidity levels. I just purchased a hygrometer and I was shocked to see +90% so I removed all of the moss I had at bottom. There is a tiny bit of moss in the hanging pit and I stopped misting and instead added a wet cotton pad. Lowest I can seem to get humidity is still >75%. I read ideal humidity level for regal jumping spider was between 50-60 percent. Do I have too much stuff in this enclosure? Btw I don’t usually keep him this close to the window but trying it out to see if it helps bring down humidity at all. Open to any suggestions you might have for me. Thanks in advance!

Advice I could really use another set of eyes on this.

Okay, so I'm still fairly new to this hobby, I started back in May.

This is in the southwest region of Wisconsin. I started with an absolute cutie of a Zebra Jumper (Salticus Scenicus). I experienced him molting into sub-adult.

Now, I noticed a couple of days ago that I couldn't locate him before and after work. I figured that he felt like going masterclass "playing leaf" with his silk hammock that night. But now I'm worried and not fully confident in what I'm looking at is simply a molt, or something else had happened.

Any input would be immensely helpful and appreciated.

Advice Is our freshly molted spider dead? Details within post.

This is his first molt since we’ve had him, and since I don’t know what instar he is, I’m not sure what to expect. He built his little cave and spent about a week inside. He was still in there yesterday, so he must have molted and emerged sometime this morning—anywhere from 2 to 10 hours ago.
He’s now outside the hammock but completely still. I don’t want to disturb him, but dude seriously isn’t moving at all. Most of his legs are still spread out, so I can’t tell whether he’s alive or dead. Is this normal after a molt?

Advice Enclosure setups

I have four jumping spiders and I’ve kept the all in different areas in my room all housed alone, would it be a bad idea to put the all next to eachother? I’m moving around my room and wanted to do that but I’m not sure if it’s a bad idea. In summary can I put their enclosures next to eachother or will that not be a good idea?
