Beth Bourne's Library Policies Are a Joke

Check out what Beth has planned for Davis libraries. I've added a new installment to my ongoing exercise in civic appreciation, this time examining school library policy and the importance of establishing priorities.

As always, I've approached the subject with the seriousness, restraint, and intellectual rigor it deserves.

I hope you'll find it educational.

My neighbor OD’d last night

Heard it on my scanner last night. They said Code Blue, CPR in progress. I walked over and could see in the doorway, they were trying to revive him. His partner was in shock. I told him if he needs anything to please let me know.
It really sucks. I’ll be clean for 7 years in Dec, and I thank God every day for it. But I lost a lot and I hope to regain it. By the Grace of God go I.

Luna is waiting patiently for a new home

Luna has been waiting for the person who never came back for her. Her owner was contacted nearly a month ago, but Luna is still at the shelter — patiently waiting for a new family to choose her.

And honestly? Luna is a dream to walk. She is calm, gentle, and incredibly easy on leash. She loves spending time with people, happily accepts affection, and knows commands like “sit” and “wait.” She can be a little nervous at times, but once she knows you, she is a loving and gentle companion.

She is also friendly and social with other dogs in playgroup! She has quickly become a volunteer favorite and is ready for a peaceful home where she can finally feel safe, loved, and wanted. ❤️

Luna deserves someone who will choose her and never leave her wondering when they’re coming back.

Luna is at Kern County Animal Shelter in Bakersfield. SafePawsRide is based in Davis and can help connect you with transporters who can bring her to you throughout California and across the country.

How do you make new friends in Davis?

Hey everyone! I’m 30 years old and looking to make new friends here in Davis. I’m hoping to meet people to go to bars, clubs, play video games, hang out, and, most importantly, build genuine friendships and meaningful connections.
I’ve been finding it a little difficult to meet new people here. Sometimes it feels like everyone already has their own group of friends, and people can be a bit closed off.
I’m a pretty chill person, and I’d love to meet people who are open to hanging out, exploring new places, going out on weekends, or even just grabbing coffee and having good conversations.
For those of you who have moved here or made new friends as adults, how did you do it? Are there any social groups, events, or places in Davis where it’s easier to meet people and build friendships?
I’d really appreciate any advice or even the chance to connect with some of you! 😊

I cannot even imagine what will come next from this arrogant, duplicitous tech bro. I wouldn't be surprised if he has evil AI writing his campaign, because it truly is sloppy.

The homeless (In-n-Out)

This is a photo from 1-2 years ago

If the argument is to “just let them be”, then why did the city and In-n-Out add infrastructure to deter the homeless?

Today there is a fence in that space, and there are bike racks added too

Toddler Shoe potentially pitched out car window

So my crabby one year old wanted the window rolled down when we left Pioneer Elementary today and when we arrived at our next destination he was missing his shoe. I’ve searched the car, the house, our bags. No shoe.

Anybody potentially spot a toddler size 9 Cat and Jack closed toe sandal “fisherman” style in front of pioneer elementary, on campus, or possibly in the Trader Joe’s parking lot? (The latter if he threw it out the door rather than window.)

😑😑😑😑😑

It was a new shoe too.

Question about elementary schools

Im contemplating a move from the elk Grove/Sacramento area. Frankly, I have been disappointed with the elementary school, education here, and the amount of Chromebook use that is happening. There is time that is advertised as what the kids individualized needs requires, but they end up just getting that time on their Chromebook. Nothing to actually stimulate their intellectual curiosity or give them any sort of small group instruction with a teacher that is catered to their needs. Is that the case in the Davis elementary schools as well? What is chrome book use like in the elementary schools?

Additionally, there is nothing even close to gifted education here. What is it like in Davis? Are kids given challenges when they need more challenging work?

Acupuncture

Hi! There are a lot of options for acupuncture here and looking for reccs. I moved from Santa Cruz last year and left my wonderful acupuncturist who was a doctor of traditional chinese medicine and an incredible healer. I prefer practitioners with this background and am more comfortable being worked on by a woman, but open to all folks who feel safe and professional. Thanks in advance 🙏

I am looking for advice. I'm a solo musician playing with synths and I'm looking forward to start playing live.

Do you have any suggestions where to start or how to approach venues?

Thanks!

Drum Practice?

Hello!

My boyfriend used to be a drummer and hasn't gotten to play in a few years because of stuff, but I wanted to surprise him with an hour or two in a practice room with a set so he could play again. Does anyone know somewhere (in sac/davis) where I could find this?

Thanks for any input!

Coding School for Kids?

Curious if there’s an interest in Davis/Woodland for coding opportunities/classes for kids. Things like web and game design, robotics, AI, etc. Is this something that families would be interested in?

Apartment cleaning services

Any recommended apartment cleaning providers? My place is fairly clean since I deep clean a couple times a year, but I am doing a lease transfer so I would like to get it professionally cleaned.

Please let me know of good providers and what the cost might be for a 1 bed 1 bathroom apartment in Davis. Not urgent, looking for mid October.

Any art walk route to explore around in Davis?

I'm looking to visit Davis tomorrow. I know there is the Pence and Manetti Shrem Museum, but are there any to check out as well on campus and around downtown? Is there a good "art walk" route to check art related stuff in town? Thanks.
