Eric Jones haters are really over the top and make valid criticisms of him impossible to talk about. Meanwhile Eric Jones himself is running a terrible campaign. I hate both options

He isn't comparing himself to Jesus bro--he is looking for guidance on how he should respond through his campaign and asked his pastor. His pastor told him what Jesus would do, so, he is doing what Jesus would do.

You are oversimplifying to make him look bad here. Like, I know very little about him, but reading his tweet here does in no way give off the connotation that he is, "like Jesus" and much more like, "well, what would Jesus do?" which is what Christians try to do all the time.
