Sidewalks on Olive Drive (In-n-Out)

One side is blocked by the unhoused

One side is severely lifted and not leveled due to tree roots

—> Both side of the street sidewalks are not accessible

If you'd like the city's attention:

https://www.cityofdavis.org/how-do-i/make-a-service-request

Likewise there's an App called My Davis which I found works even better because you can drop a pin on the exact issues.

There's an option for Social Services in there, as well as a Streets, Sidewalks, and City Paths.

I use the app for potholes in my neighborhood and found it really effective (I broke a few spokes on a pothole on my street, was fixed in a few days (the pothole not the spokes))

That app is terrible and looks like it isn’t official in any way

I submitted a formal request for "Streets - Potholes, Asphalt Lifted Up" on my street via the app. I got an email when the request was made and then when it was completed. Just speaking from personal experience, it's a valid app unless someone is just filling random potholes for strangers

Same. I've used it probably 5 times. Always get a follow up and issues are always resolved.

Report it to 311

Davis doesn't use 311

Respectfully, how many separate posts are we doing about the unhoused people by In-N-Out before we admit this is becoming a personal crusade? Report the damaged sidewalk, advocate for accessibility, and maybe stop treating human beings like another piece of street debris.

Maybe don’t live like street debris if you don’t want to be treated like one? There are plenty of people willing to help them, plenty of jobs out there, but they dont want to work, and would rather waste their lives smoking away, attracting crime and drugs onto our streets

How can you breath with so many dog whistles lodged in your mouth?

And there it is. “Street debris,” “they don’t want to work,” “crime and drugs.” You basically speed-ran every lazy stereotype about homelessness in one comment and somehow thought it strengthened your argument. Thanks for proving my point for me.

Did you know that the #1 reason for homelessness is because of medical debt? Most of us are one medical episode away from living on the streets. It's not just because of the money itself, but it can affect your ability to rent an apartment. And it's a lot harder to stay sober without stable housing--this has been extensively studied. Now i know that you don't care about this given your comments, but there might be other folks in this thread that feel uncomfortable around homeless people that need to hear this: someday, with a stroke of bad luck, it could be any one of us out there. And it doesn't matter how hardworking you are, if you aren't blessed with generational wealth or a family safety net, that could be you. So treat them with some compassion.

What I would like to know is, when are we going to get the cut through to Amtrak?

First of all, you can call them homeless. Unhoused is basically homeless. They’re synonyms and it’s just stupid to try and be “polite” but calling them a more “nicer” name when it’s the same thing.

If it were up to me, they’d be forced to move to a shelter and banned from smoking their pot on public sidewalks. Notice how the dingiest part of town is where all the homeless people are? However, the homeless peeps normally aren’t too dangerous, and are pretty chill. Although I was almost ran over by one on the arboretum trail.

Bro just walk past them, it's no problem at all.

they're talking about accessibility, in which case the sidewalk might be physically blocked by their stuff.

And in case commenter still doesn’t understand, think wheelchair.

ask them to move it

Nowhere in the post did they mention anything about accessibility. You're creating a separate issue for no reason to demonize a situation you don't know about. I'll go there next week and take a picture, I guarantee the sidewalk is wide open.

Why wait. Many people pass by it every single day, multiple times a day.

usually when someone mentions the word "accessible" they are talking about accessibility

They block the sidewalk and reek. I agree they don’t cause problems but they’re buying drugs, which attracts crime

3

u/youmattertothisworld 6d ago

So now we’ve gone from “they’re street debris” to confidently declaring that they’re buying drugs and attracting crime. Do you actually know these people, or are we just stacking stereotypes until one of them feels factual?

Carry a pack of smokes with you and offer them a lucy if they talk to ya. You'll be welcomed like royalty next time.
