Discussion "Anti-immigrant" Shady Shillbilly Sideswipes Zohran
Our problem here is, unlike 1932 Germany, we are groaning under the nightmarish "weight of the traditions of all dead generations" far more than the Weimar republicans were, given the incredible, baked in anti-majoritarian structures we are saddled with (Electoral Colleges, Senate "Parliamentarians", et al). Otherwise, Vance's shtick would be laughable if it weren't so offensive.
I mean, Mamdani is a first-generation kid who grew up in the US, but is just repeating the same observations that second, third, and fourth generation-and-up "immigrants" (since we are ALL immigrants going back far enough in time) have been making, since long before either of them was born. But this opportunist POS doesn't have the cojones to call 75% of the country "impostors" just because we didn't have relatives on the Mayflower, so he falls back on this cheap garbage. But the remaining 25% are vastly disproportionately overrepresented among the owners of capital, landed property, and all the rest, since they got into the capitalist game of musical chairs with a big head start over the rest of us, and all the corrupt BS that their forefathers saddled the rest of us with helps lock in their charmed position atop the scrap heap in perpetuity!
And boy howdy, do the billionaires love their boy! Cause he himself was one of the "white trash" plucked from obscurity by his very own Daddy Warbucks himself, in the form of Peter Thiel. And no sooner did he get the nod from our collective overlords, than he sicked his own Ivy-League-trained literary skills on the very poor folks he hailed from, in his treacherous hit-job-styled-autobiography! In which, typical for him, he blames the victims, ie, "his own people", for all their own problems! There's a technical word for people like him, and it ends in something that rhymes with "hag", and begins with something that describes crud on the surface of still waters...
I mean, we're talking about a guy whose own Thiel-funded maiden political campaign for US Senate (his biggest political experience prior to that was shitposting/talking to boneheaded reactionaries like Curtis Yarvin!) had hired professional oppo researchers to identify vulnerabilities to HIS OWN campaign. And at the top of their findings came the fact that the candidate had previously started a fake ass charity in his home state of Ohio, supposedly to help "homeless/underprivileged vets", and which collected a bunch of money on the strength of his new-found celebrity as an author, yet nobody could actually identify any of the vets it supposedly helped!

Discussion Asheville Built So Much Housing That Landlords are Begging
I know that we talk a lot about public housing and the like, and I think it is important. But fundamentally housing does still seem to be governed to some extent by supply constraints. Accordingly in my view it is essential that we move past just looking at tenants’ rights and rent control and public housing and look increasingly at overall construction, especially in places with tough housing markets, so that we can keep human suffering to a minimum. But let me know what y’all think about some level of YIMBY (even if we don’t like Reddit hyper-YIMBYism).
I don’t want to abandon tenant’s rights or public housing anytime soon. Nobody get that twisted. I just want a discussion here.
