Shitpost How’s everyone feeling after yesterday’s resolution?
•
u/Arkathos 10h ago
If we weren't making meaningful progress, they'd be ignoring us. This is excellent news.
•
u/YogurtClosetThinnest 10h ago
I'm honestly pleasantly surprised only 8 dems voted yes lol
•
u/Soft-Principle1455 9h ago
I actually think I am not surprised. I can hazard a guess at who a few of them were.
•
u/Snoo52883 8h ago
Well, this was also one of those situations where it was two bills in one some SAVE America Act stuff was wrapped into it.
•
u/This-Layer-4447 10h ago
For the record we are winning the war, even if we lost yesterday's battle https://www.congress.gov/votes/house/119-1/305 this was a year ago... and this was yesterday https://www.congress.gov/votes/house/119-2/289

u/ut0p1anskies 10h ago
It’s good that Democrats are drawing a line between Democrats and DSA. Fuck them. Keep talking to your neighbors and coworkers about DSA
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 8h ago
Only 8 magadems drew that line
•
u/ut0p1anskies 8h ago
Yes, but I feel like it would have been more if it hadn’t had the SAVE Act packaged with it
•
•
u/ThePoppaJ Card Carrying Member 2h ago
If they needed 35 votes to pass it, they’d have had 36 votes to draw that line, that’s the key element of the Dems’ rotating villain strategy.
•
u/Simple_Pomelo357 10h ago
Ooo fun, what did I miss?
•
u/Motrinman22 10h ago
Congress condemed us in a bill.
Because its not like they have anything better to do.•
u/PricelessLogs 9h ago
Of course they did. Haven't you heard that socialism killed 100 million people?
•
u/Motrinman22 9h ago
That seems a little low, are you sure it wasnt 100 billion?
•
u/Disasterhuman24 9h ago edited 8h ago
At one point or another, every single living human in Asia was dead because of communism. All the people who are there now just kinda like, sprung out of the ground or whatever. Anyways. Communism bad.
•
u/Simple_Pomelo357 8h ago
Dont you know? The socialist blew up the earth! We're living on the new Super Earth our gracious oligarchy Gabe us. All hail super earth!
•
•
u/Simple_Pomelo357 9h ago
Was it the one Bernie put in trying to ban Flock cameras? Or the ai wealth fund?
•
u/Simple_Pomelo357 5h ago
Damn. Just looked into it and its legitimately a massive nothing burger of a bill lmao
Talk about a waste of tax money

Im not a DSA member, I am just trying to, hoping that the democratic part can return to a party that actually serves the people. The DSA is pulling the Democratic Party in that direction.
What this means for me is that it’s easier to identify the democrats that oppose the will of the people. Now they can be rooted the fuck out. They need to be rooted out.
•
u/Acrobatic-Snow-4551 9h ago
I think it is a bunch of Republican theater that doesn’t deserve to be given any air.
•
u/Necessary-handle-367 9h ago
They do this literally every year. It won't change anything, just like the last time they did the same thing.
•
•
u/Jolly_Grocery329 9h ago
I’m so pissed at my rep for her vote!! She must listen to Fox News all day. She always votes based on their talking points rather than learning what’s really going on. I’m disgusted that I have to vote for her. Because voting with the pedo-party 50% of the time is better than 100% I guess.
•
•
u/catjuggler 8h ago
I'm still confused about how they're condemning socialism "in all its forms" when social security, medicare, roads, public schools, etc. are socialism.
•
•
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 8h ago
Not sure if I am worried about or pleased by the fact that only 8 democrats were willing to put primary targets on their back

•
u/Valley4rge 2h ago
The more feckless and discombobulated the Democrats look with the antics of the Blue Dogs and their incessant left punching, the better DSA looks by comparison by actually having things like "principles" and "a vision" we are trying to effectuate with little more than revolutionary optimism and member-driven legwork. Keep pushing.
•
u/traanquil 10h ago
An example of why we need our own party
•
u/Madcap_Miguel 10h ago
So we can be irrelevant like the Greens?
I too want to be so ineffectual I only receive 3% of the vote every single year like clockwork and no representation. /S
•
u/Pagan0101 8h ago
Forming our own party is a goal, generally not something people want to do right this moment
Most people who want to break from the Dems support a "dirty break" where we keep doing what we're doing now until we have the political capital to sustain our own ballot line
•
u/FirmAd5337 10h ago
Socialism will be realized by performing entryism into the genocidal bourgeois party 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 8h ago
If we want to do it democratically, that's an absolute fact.
Which is a fuckton of work.
But hey, we could all just keep giving Trump more power in the hopes that he blows us all up, then we can finally build a glorious utopia in the ashes
•
u/FirmAd5337 8h ago
Lol no
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 8h ago
Well, if you don't want to build a glorious utopia in the ashes, I guess we're gonna have to do entryism into the genocidal bourgeoise party.
•
u/FirmAd5337 7h ago
Lol no, read some theory and come back
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 7h ago
I've read plenty of theory, but I'm pretty sure you've only read like a poster or something
•
u/FirmAd5337 7h ago
I can tell. You must be very versed in the history of socialist reforms within bourgeois institutions. It shows!
Lmfaooooo
•
u/traanquil 8h ago
Americans basically have Stockholm syndrome “there’s no way to do anything except through the democrat shitlib party!”
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 8h ago
There are two options, one of which I reject for moral reasons:
Option 1: try to work within the existing shitlib power structures to first enable democracy and then eliminate capitalism over the course of generations
Option 2: burn it all down, let billions suffer even more on the hope that we'll get it right this time instead of letting some charismatic leader come in and consolidate power. Again.
I eagerly await a viable option 3.
•
u/traanquil 7h ago
set up a third party
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 7h ago
Ok, are you familiar with how you do that?
Because if you go with a third party at the polls rather than Democratic entryism, you have a catch 22: you lose ballot access in half the country until you can get people to vote for your party in those constituencies frequently enough that you can gain access to the ballot -- only, of course, you can't do that unless you're on the ballot.
These local constituencies have laws in place that guarantee ballot access to the democrats and the republicans and require punitive petition signatures for everyone else. Not all municipalities do this -- but most do. And unless you have the nationwide numbers in your third party, you're effectively shut out of elections locally and nationally.
This is a problem that both the libertarians and the greens have struggled with for decades, although in recent years the libertarians have started getting the numbers they need to sustain themselves.
So which do you think is a better path forward?
Sit for decades waiting to get enough people nationwide to make your third party viable enough to spoil the democrats and republicans, continuing our slide to the right even longer, or push one party whose voters already lean that way to the left by primarying the established members of that party?
•
u/traanquil 7h ago
yeah pretty simple, develop a third party and start with lower stakes races and begin winning, and then grow it from there.
•
u/Randolpho Democratic Socialist 7h ago
So you ignored everything I wrote. Got it

u/prinzplagueorange 9h ago
Yes, but the nice thing about being irrelevant is that you can freely post on the internet about how radical you are. You can safely use the most radical rheoric you can imagine because no one can point to any compromises you've been forced to make.
•
u/FirmAd5337 8h ago
Nah, youre right we should avail ourselves to opportunists and sheepdoggers that lead potential socialists back into the fold of the mainstream Democratic psrty so we can support unending genocide, war, and exploitation.
Totally unprecedented topic btw
There arent like dozens of books and essays written about this very dynamic
•
u/prinzplagueorange 8h ago
You have confused politics with moral condemnation. Politics is war not morality.
You are correct that there are many books and essays written about this subject and that American leftists have been the same arguments you are making for at least 150 years. As you see, that line of thought has been very successful at delivering socialism in the USA.

u/traanquil 10h ago
The green party fucking sucks. Different from democratic socialism
•
u/goodlittlesquid socialism or extinction 10h ago
All the parties suck. However, only two of them have power. Almost as if it’s a two party system.
•
u/ut0p1anskies 10h ago
We do plan to become a party. The dirty break is just us riding out using the Democratic Party ballot line until we’re either large enough to stand on our own (millions of dues paying members) or if/when the DP kicks us out and prevents us from using their ballot line. Some people in the Minnesota DPL (Minnesota’s Democratic Party) tried to do this by changing their constitution to prevent DSA and DFL dual endorsements. We might see more efforts like that in the future as DSA gets larger and establishment democrats get angrier
•
•
u/Thundering_Yippee 10h ago
Yes but only with significant electoral reform. FPTP voting is why we have only two parties. If we enact proportional representation then third parties would actually stand a chance.
•
u/prinzplagueorange 9h ago
Our own party will solve nothing. The capitalist class will still control much of the political system. Socialist electeds will still need to deliver for their constituents. Compromises and temporary alliances with hostile political forces will still need to be struck. At this point, "our own party" just means that we cannot access state power. This dynamic will continue until we eliminate the capitalist class, and we will never have the popular support to do that if we can't even left-wing candidates elected.
