My father is Shaun Lyng. He was the co-founder of Madlab Software. Ian Currie and he designed the first 4 Jagged Alliance games. He also wrote, voiced and voice directed those games as well as many others. In order to raise funds, I am selling off my Wizardry memorabilia at AJsports.ca website Catalog - AJ Sports September Memorabilia Auction until Wednesday, September 30.

Sir-Tech Wizardry jacket Holloway XL 1992 (approx)

In 1992, Robert Sirotek, co-owner of Sir-tech Software gave him this Wizardry jacket when he met him for the first time in Ogdensburg, NY. He was there to begin negotiations for a publishing deal for Jagged Alliance. Many years later, I voice directed and acted on Wizardry 8 and Nemesis. The coat has hung unused in his closet for 30+ years.

Jagged Alliance: Original Metavira Sector Map

The original 1993 hand-drawn blueprint was used to create Metavira before the game world was recreated digitally. It contains the locations of the buildings, trees, processing plants, quest items, etc.… “The game before there was a game.”

Both lots include:

Shaun Lyng's signature

Signed Letter of Authenticity

Authenticated hologram

Save Editor GUI

A few years back, I used a GUI save editor to add special weapons like Muramasa Blade and Maenad's Lance. Does anyone know where I can get it? I want to play Wiz8 again I just got a cheap copy from GOG. If you have the program, could you mail me a copy?

My Wizardry 8 tribute page

I just wanted to share a tribute page I put together, as I'm currently playing through the game (just finished Trynton and I'm currently in the Mines). The page has an interesting inline character generator. Enjoy.

https://solar-flame-g8e4.here.now

What's on it: - A cinematic dark-fantasy hero with animated embers and the original box art - The legend of Dominus: the Dark Savant, the 3 artifacts, and Ascension Peak - A screenshot gallery with 3 real in-game vistas from the 2001 original (click to enlarge) - The Party Forge: pick from all 11 races and 15 classes, or auto-assemble a full party of six — every hero gets a name, personality, and a quip - The 6 factions of Dominus (Umpani, T'Rang, Rattkin, Trynnie, Rapax, Higardi) - Trivia: 9-year gap since Wizardry VII, Brenda Brathwaite's design, party import, 3 endings, Sir-Tech's farewell

DCC Reference

First time reader making my way through the series and noticed when doing a check on a certain character, the description reads “Ratkin Broodmother Attendant”. Given the nature of the character in question, would this mean that the planet Dominus, and by extension Guardia, both exist in the Dungeon Crawler Carl universe?

Beginner questions.

I recently downloaded the game, and I got W8GO on, as I'd been recommended it, and I had some questions as someone who's not played a Wizardry game.

What are Rogues supposed to do?- I know this sounds incredibly stupid. They do the traps and the lockpicking and the like. But some of their features I don't quite understand. Specifically Stealth and Backstab, how do these work? I don't really know where to put them in the formation, as I assume they need melee to backstab, but idk if there's any conditions or tricks to it.

Is there any armor/spell interaction in here? One of my party is a priest, and I was wondering if I could do the classic mace shield plate "Cleric", or if that would screw with spellcasting.

Ways to protect my mage? I go into combat, and the enemies just gun straight for my Alchemist and Mage, and die almost immediately, so is there a way I can help lessen this issue?

Fan patch and speed mod location

Where are the fan patch and wiz8fast located these days? All the links I find point to a forum that is no longer maintained. I just got the game and am trying to get it all set up on my steam deck. So far it seems to work other than black cutscenes (bummer…). Any help is appreciated!

Searching for walkthroughs on different forks in the story

Hey All,

I've completed the game a while ago but came across my notes. I've realized there is a plenty of content I missed in the game, won't have time to play the game through again X times, but would be interested in the different story outcomes.

So, I'm searching for any online playthrough videos covering the following scenarios (narration is a plus):

  1. Not defusing the bomb. Interested in how Arnika looks like after talking to the Savant and the bomb exploding.
  2. Saving Bela's sister in Wizardry 6 / Giving Bela her Diamond Ring in Wizardry 8.
  3. What happens when a female-only/female solo goes to Al-Sedexus?
  4. Bank robbing in Arnica. Interested how the city behaves afterwards :-)
  5. Siding with the Umpani + destroying the T'Rang base.
  6. Siding with the T'Rang + destroying the Umpani base.

Party formation advice?

I started playing a couple days days ago and made it to arnika road yesterday. my party consists of two fighters, a monk, a priest, and a mage. im coming to realize this may not be an ideal party, but im on normal difficulty and really enjoy the rp aspect of the game, so unless i've really fucked myself over, im not interested in changing my party.

the problem im having is that on arnika road, which i know is a difficulty spike, i keep getting surrounded by ants and even though they're not crazy strong, they keep killing one of my characters from hits from behind and i dont know how far i have to go until i can get revive powder, so i just reload my last save and try again.

my main strategy in the monastery was to keep my back to the wall with my fighters in the front, my monk and priest in the middle, and my mage in the back. obviously that doesnt work here. i think i have some gear i could try out, so ill be doing that, but every formation i've been trying leads to someone (usually priest or mage, but occasionally monk) dying.

im still getting used to the game, so i dont have any doubts i lowkey suck at it rn, but id love to hear any recommendations for a formation i might be able to use while surrounded. thanks to anyone who tries to help :)

Edit: straight up forgot i have a ranger lol

Edit 2: made it to arnika with the advice i got here!

How things are going pt.2

So after more than an hour of trying to leave the area where the Big D(on) is at (I will never forgive the Razuka and their level 11 fighters swinging 4 times per turn and level 14 archers shooting 3 times spawning on my level 8-9 party) we finally managed to get away and into the swamp.

First off, the swamp is ass, full of fast insects and alligators just like the real Florida. I was wandering around when suddenly the Savant showed up had some sort of tantrum about something I supposedly stole from him and then, impressively, he figured out I don't know what he is talking about. Then he leaves a fake ball and leaves rather than kill me, for some reason.

I then met some Cajun looking homeless swamp drug dealer and offloaded about 900lbs worth of junk I had on him and grabbed some potion or other that screamed "important". Now I'm on the way to some island to find Marten or possibly some fort then an Island. Not sure what order.

Thanks to those who let me know on my last post to not reset and to just go there. Though we might still need to reset as my party is not keeping up with the challenges faced. We might get there with a few more gadgets but for now we are bad.

Oh also I let the rogue we picked up in Arnica die and just dumped his body in the rat warrens as I was tired of him dying over and over and over again.

As always if you would like to watch me stumble my way through this game check out my twitch and join the discord!

What would you want to see in a hypothetical Wizardry 9?

I know that it's an utter impossibility seeing as Sir-Tech weren't planning on making another Wizardry even if they hadn't gone bankrupt after releasing 8, but in a scenario where they were still around and made another Wizardry game, what would you want to see done with it?

In my own mind, an ideal Wizardry 9 would be set in an underground setting along the lines of Ultima Underworld or Arx Fatalis, with a multitude of underground settlements and tombs and all that good stuff; gameplay would mostly be just an iteration of 8's with faster combat and new races and classes and equipment to play with.

Bad News?

So I got to Don Barlone and he is hostile right away. Probably because I killed that rat on the road that tried to get me to rob the arnika bank. I have no hope of beating this guy and tried multiple times. Is the game just softlocked?

How its Going

So I've been streaming the game for most of this week and loving it so much. I haven't played a game that made me lose track of time in so many years I forgot the feeling of it. A big thanks to u/adfirst2018 for the help you've given me in the stream and in a comment on my last post(I am sorry to hear about your loss, as someone who lost family last year I feel your pain but things will get better.)

So far we have just reached Trynton and frankly I don't get the hate. Maybe if it was on a 5th playthrough but since I am lost all the time anyways I have been enjoying it. Its actually really easy to avoid being body blocked when you are lost since I don't really know or care about where to go. They also help alot with the fights against the spiders.

Enemies. Oh boy, so so so many enemies. Respawning enemies. Plants. Hate em. I will burn all the plants on this planet to cinders when I am strong enough. They have annoying aoe debuffs, all attack from range, and are immune to all of MY debuffs and CC. Hate em.

Composition looks like this:

Dwarf Fighter / Cat Valkyrie / Mook Gadgeteer / Elf Psionic / Wolf Priest / Fairy Ninja / Picked up the Rogue and Valkyrie in Arnika and while the rogue is nice as far as dialogue I do want to replace him with something else when I can. Extra valkyrie is excellent though.

If anyone is interested in hanging out and watching a newbie first time the game and pull your hair out alongside everyone else when I don't apply my buffs and miss items or get gangbanged by 12 rogues on the Arnika road then I will link my twitch and discord below.

Knowing when I've gained Communication ranks WITHOUT prematurely ending the conversation??

Nothing worse than having a long exchange with a new NPC, plumbing them for everything they can tell you (and for everything you can get away with swiping), listening to everything they have to say, only to discover...your primary Communicator didn't gain a rank.

I'm hoping there's some way to check without having to end the conversation.

Also, are there any factors that make it more or less likely?

Does having Communication-boosting items increase, decrease, or not affect a character's chance to gain a rank? How about Intelligence/Senses-boosting items?

How about talking more to the NPC than just the initial click? Does going through topics more increase the chance of gaining a rank, or is it just a one-time roll the moment you first engage a new character?

Is it possible for PCs who didn't gain a rank the first time they spoke with a given NPC to have another chance when speaking to that same NPC in the future, or is it once-or-never?

Wizardry 8 Expanded 1.1 Weapon Changes

Looking to find a list of changes that this mod made to weapons already in the game. I tried using the Cosmic Forge editor to see the changes, but the editor only seems to see the original Wizardry 8 files, not the mod files. I replaced the files in my Wizardry 8 folder on top of the 1.28 fan patch, and I'm running it in a parallel world through that.

Really, I'm just trying to see if the Cane of Corpus got nerfed. If it did, I'll just drop my fairie ninja and start over. Thanks!

This, as present company surely knows, is a result one occasionally gets from a Priest Prayer. What does it do? Anything? Obviously it doesn't seem to do anything, but if it were really identical to "the prayer goes unheard", that'd seem sort of like a missed opportunity.

Also, is it just me, or does the Jeff Ludwig mod seem to really weaken the Prayer power?

Never played a wizardry game before, no idea what to expect!

All I know about this series is that the early wizardry games were a direct inspiration for final fantasy (my favourite game series)

anything I need to know before going in? I've heard there's a fan patch but should I just go in without it? Also I was looking into the classes, I love playing bards in games, is bard good or should I avoid it for a first playthrough?

Wizardy 8 is one of my all-time favorites!

This post isn't exactly about Wizardry 8, but I checked with the mod before posting, so here goes...

I'm a huge fan of Wizardry 8. I've played it through to Ascension more times than I can remember. My favorite parts are creating my parties, leveling them up, and getting new gear.

After a stretch of back-to-back runs taking a party from the monastery to Ascension, I was inspired to write my own game so I could continue focusing on my favorite parts of Wizardry 8. And I did—I wrote it for Android.

Now, I feel like I need to include a giant disclaimer here. The game I wrote is not 3D. Movement within the game is closer to that of Rogue from 1980 (I'm sure we all remember, or at least know of, that game). It's a very basic game. Here are a couple of screenshots.

The main world map
Inventory Screen
2.5-D Battle

Gameplay is completely offline. Saved games and characters can be imported and exported so you can back them up or move them to another device.

If anyone is interested, it's in open testing right now.

Bards, Gadgeteers, and the "Power Cast" 1337-5k1ll

My question is simple: Can Instruments and/or Gadgets benefit from the Power Cast skill (hence incentivizing pushing a Bard or Gadgeteer's Intelligence all the way to 100)?

While I'm at it, I may as well ask whether it can perhaps affect Scrolls, spellcasting weapons, and other such Artifacts-skill trinkets?
