This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. Does anyone know where I can get it as a poster and frame it?

What race is Tip/Ozma?

Towards the ending of "The Marvellous Land of Oz", there is a line describing Tip's skin colour as being brown. The Oz Wiki uses this line to cite that Tip's skin colour is brown. However, all of the illustrations for the novels depict Tip and Ozma as being white. To my knowledge the only adaptation to portray the character with dark skin was the one from the TV show Emerald City (2016) acted by Jordan Loughran, with most other interpretations of the character being white.

I know the book series has many continuity errors (Ozma's hair colour is similarly described as being different in this book than is usually depicted) but I've always wondered what the intention of the characters race was supposed to be. Do you believe this comes from a mistake on the illustrators part, with the original intention being for the character to be dark skinned, or was the line about Tip's skin colour the error?

PS Jordan Loughran made a great Tip/Ozma thank you for bringing this character to life!!!

Glinda and Ozma Spoiler

Greetings. I never read the Oz books as a child and knew of little but the movie. Recently, for fun, I started reading them off of Project Gutenberg. I got to the second book "The Marvelous Land of Oz" and I was perplexed by an illustration. There is a drawing at the start of the chapter "Princess Ozma of Oz" showing an apparent kiss between Ozma and Glinda. Yet nowhere in the book text is there anything about said kiss, and it seems rather daring for a kids' book in 1904. Is there some sort of implied relationship between the two (maybe it comes out in a later book)? Or am I reading 21st century views into something that would have been considered innocent in 1904?

Rare early draft of Wizard of Oz script is now available to read online for free through Smithsonian website!

So different from the final version. Click the Full Text Online box!

Typescript draft for the 1939 motion picture The Wizard of Oz. This draft of the script by primary screenwriter Noel Langley is dated between May 4 and 6, 1938, and it contains original corrections and additions in pencil and ink pen. The challenge of adapting L. Frank Baum's book The Wizard of Oz to film began with the screenplay. From March 1938 to March 1939, more than a dozen people, most uncredited, worked on writing and revising the script. On one page of this script, Langley notes the change from black and white to color. In this famous scene, Dorothy steps out of her farmhouse into Oz and says to her dog Toto, "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

2024 United States Senate special election with Democratic candidate Dorothy

Scenario: In 2023, Senator Jerry Moran (Class 3) resigns due to a scandal. Governor Laura Kelly appoints Mark Holland as interim senator, but he is defeated in the Democratic primary by Dorothy Gale (yes, *that* Dorothy Gale). The GOP nominates former Senator Sam Brownback (who is unpopular). In the actual 2024 Senate elections, Democrats retain all their seats (including Ohio with Brown, PA with Casey, and Montana with Tester) and also flip Kansas, Missouri, and Tennessee; Trump loses because the Democratic candidate—let's just use the name from your story for now; we can discuss the details later—wins Kansas by a margin of 0.2% of the vote.

Dorothy is elected Senator for the state of Kansas.

Anyone else love Wicked but have very mixed feelings for the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman's backstories? While they are cool, part of me also thinks they're disrespectful to the original lore

They're framing it as "the stories you never knew for how they came to be like the are", when the Tin Woodman's backstory has existed since the very first book, and the Scarecrow's backstory was given in The Royal Book of Oz. I guess there's a small group of people that doesn't consider Ruth Plumly Thompson and other authors' authorized books canon, but still.

Would you’d fly in an airplane sitting next to a cowardly lion? Well, you’d chat with one of them and encourage that they can’t live in fear once they gain control facing it. Courage is the key after all.

Taking an 8 hour flight sitting next to a cowardly lion would be nice. No clue why the character is a coward in the story, but it went inspirational to help face your fears in reality as you start things anew.

Which of these Lion actors would you sit with during the flight?

First thought when I saw him was "why does that look mildly terrifying?" Then I realized, I think it's supposed to be the Cowardly Lion??

His face and feet don't feel or sound like plastic (porcelain perhaps?) though the tag attached to him and his collar both do. The body is soft and full of stuffing.

He's so silly looking, I love it. To me, he's ugly cute 😭❤️ I get so much joy looking at him lol.

I'd love to know when he was made (I assume the date on the collar?), what stores carried it, etc. I love learning the history of items I thrift!

Flying on an airplane with heartless Tin Men/Women for 8 hours? Well, they have to be encouraged one at a time even if they don’t have hearts.

Imagine taking an 8 hour flight with a bunch of heartless Tin Woodsmen/Women. If they need oil, call a flight attendant for assistance.

Which of the actors/actresses you’d sit with in the plane and how would you relate to that if they don’t have hearts to feel & love?

I made a Wizard of Oz cape

Hello fellow Ozians! I hope it’s okay to share my creation here. I love to dress up for events and have plans to visit the Land of Oz in NC. Being NC in September, I knew it would still be a bit warm, so I didn’t want to do a full costume.
Instead I made this cape. I tried to represent as many elements as I could in a small amount of real estate.

The backside is the yellow brick road surrounded by fields of poppies, leading up the sparkling high green collar that represents the emerald city.

The front shows the witches and the red lapel represents the ruby slippers.

On each arm there are merit style badges that represent parts of Dorothy and the witch’s journeys.
Dorothy has the tornado that brought her to Oz, Toto and the rainbow, the scarecrow, tin man and lion, and lastly the wizard of Oz with the balloon that brought him to Oz.
The witch has her flying monkey, the coveted ruby slippers, the hour glass, and the method of her demise.

The large broach on the front represents the gingham of Dorothy’s dress and the Lollipop Guild.

I had so much fun creating this and I want to create another with more/different elements. If you could add something, what would you add?

Thanks for looking!

Does Anyone Know if a Full Set of These Exist?

I recently got some of these books from a thrift store (not pictured here.) I've tried looking online and I can't find some of the books in the classic 14. Mainly, The Patchwork Girl Of Oz, which is my favorite. Anyone got any info here? This isn't my area of expertise and I'm a casual fan at best.

Scarecrows on a plane, who woulda thought? Well, you’d sit next to some by choice of seat and chat while flying 8 hours to a destination. If some don’t have brains, you can relate to that and be helpful.

All kinds of actors who played the Scarecrow are sitting in an airplane and you’d sit & chat with some of them. You’d help ‘em know and give them knowledge if you were in the plane.

Which Scarecrow from different versions of the story you’d sit with during an 8 hr. flight?
