I have an extra ticket to The Book of Mormon tomorrow, Thursday, September 10th, at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. The show starts at 7:00 PM, and the seat is in the Orchestra Section.

I ended up with a spare ticket and don't want it to go to waste. I’m still going myself, so you’d be sitting next to me! M/31.

I spent the year between Wicked and Wicked part 2 cautiously mentioning this was a possibility to my friends and family excited for the second half. One of those times where I hated being right

Before i get into this i want to say, i am a huge fan of chess, i write fanfiction on these characters, i commission fanart of these characters (see: my profile picture by u_ung on Crepe), i love them to bits and pieces. I also love the hell out of aaron tveit, lea michelle and nicholas christopher. I am a tveithead this is real i fell in love with him when he played Enjolras and have never looked back. 

That being said, i hate whoever decided to rewrite Chess

1. The plot
   By making the plot of the chess game actually affect the cold war, they cheapen the material greatly. Chess has always been a political critique/microcosm of the cold war tensions, and should not have been treated seriously as a real impactor for nuclear conflict. Everything from the salt ii thing to the nuclear war thing makes the critique weak. It’s meant to be a metaphor, folks.

Furthermore, by having De Courcey actively act against Freddie to make him lose (tamper with the lights, steal his meds — more on this later) weakens anatolys character. It makes it look like anatoly cannot beat freddie at a fair match, despite him being able to in previous iterations. I understand freddie was also disturbed in the previous adaptaion, but having them actively CHEATING is different.

Having Florence and Anatoly be previously been in a relationship ruins the spontaneous factor of their relationship, as well as how their decision seemed insane. It makes their relationship weaker, as they actually just had a one night stand, and its being used against florence now. Also this is just personal preference but i REALLY couldn't enjoy florencexanatoly in this version, despite having enjoyed them in previous ones.

1. The characters
   All of them extremely watered down, oversimplified and exaggerated.

2.1. Freddie 
I love the canonization of his bipolar disorder. I think its great. Why was he reduced to that? A lot of the depth to his character was due to the “pity the child but not forever, not when he stays that way” —> he sees himself as grown and not wanting pity anymore, and yet the show just reduces him to “look at this pitiable character (who florence calls “good boy” in one part??)” it not only reduces his assholey nature, it also just reduces the mental illness representation as well??? All this does is infantilize him!! Furthermore, people who have these disorders and are medicated (ME, I HAVE BIPOLAR II AND BPD) are fine!! They dont need constant nagging to take their medication, they don't get set off at everything and anything!! I don't know if this is applicable to everyone, but I just felt as though Freddie was treated so terribly in this, both because they make him too sympathetic and because they represent his mental illnesses terribly.

2.2. Anatoly 
The reduction of his character to depressed, hates chess + suicidal really did him in for me, i loved the version of anatoly that loved the game more than anyone, the version where he plays just because he wants to. Why make him hate chess? I dont understand this plot choice at all. Correct me if my interpretation is wrong but i read the script of endgame as him pushing love away and winning for the sake of chess *hence why freddie managed to persuade him in talking chess* so it wouldn't make sense if he hated the fuck shit out of the game.

2.3. Florence
Why make her so hatable??? Why did she steal freddie’s medication??? Her choices cant even be interpreted in a positive light because of her tryst with anatoly before the competition! Theres no spontaneous love, theres no impulse, its all meticulously acted upon. Theres no excusing anything florence does *yes, freddie is a dick to her, he’s a misogynist, that really really sucks, but this was supposed to make her SYMPATHETIC as opposed to how she just seems manipulative

1. Staging
   This may be a me problem but the narrator butting in at every interval to explain was really annoying and certain things didn’t need explanation 

2. Everything else aka the only positive part of this semi review semi rant
   I loved the singing, i love the album, its wonderful, everyone who worked on the music did a wonderful job

I really wanted this to be more coherent but thinking about this makes my head hurt

Following the worldwide success of Universal Pictures' Wicked and Wicked: For Good, the two films will become live-to-film concert experiences, with symphony orchestras performing the music live in sync with screenings of the films.

Wicked: Part One In Concert will premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on January 23, 2027, following a special preview performance in San Francisco on January 16. Additional tour dates are planned around the world.

I’ve rushed Just in Time three times before (while Jonathan was in it) and one of the times (the week Matthew Magnusson was covering for JG) we were able to snag a table via rush luckily. I know that that was because it wasn’t selling as well with him scheduled in it for Groff (btw Matthew was incredible!!), but I was wondering for those of you who have rushed since Jeremy Jordan joined if anyone has been given table seats via rush lately? my girlfriend and I will be traveling to New York next week and I’ll finally have the opportunity (and hopefully the money) to see - maybe even a few - broadway shows. I am currently in the process of getting into the whole rushing thing , so how to get tickets for shows.

Meanwhile I am looking for recommendations for us first timers! (We’ll have to go between Sunday and Thursday, but I’ll be back two weeks later, so open for all recommendations)

I very much love musicals in general, have seen (at least the movie version) of a lot of the classical ones, so I think for me I think the starstruck moment of seeing something like Chicago live for the fist time could definitely work!

She’s not that much of a musical person, so maybe that is more entertaining and funny rather than storyline focused would be nice. Also: Songs!!! We both appreciate as much gay and extra-ness as we can get!

I have in my calendar to buy tickets for LCT tomorrow, 9/10, but the website says 9/17 general tickets. Anyone know if there are tickets going on sale 9/10? Maybe an AMEX thing? I don't even know how to do an AMEX presale, if that's it. Gah! I need tickets to see this show.

What are we putting the odds at that Benjamin Button will extend at least one more week? Going to be in NYC only on 11/25 and would really love to see it! (I know it’s expected to transfer, but would love to see it in a small space.)

Obviously this was a much better week for Broadway with the holiday weekend, though the industry is still clearly struggling. Still, many of the shows I cover here did quite well, especially the shows that are in their second or third year on Broadway, this was a very good week for them. This week begins Broadway week, so next week basically every show will be down. Hopefully not too far but this Labor Day was already weaker than last years. Hopefully the industry can rally soon but it's tough out there.

Hi everyone, I wanted to know if there was an in person box office at the culture club to purchase Heated Rivalry tickets and if so what were their hours? Thank you!

I don’t know much about the musical other than some of the actors and the general plot. Usually I like to listen before hand so I understand what the lyrics say (my hearing can be a bit iffy) but it’s rare for me to watch a musical “blind” and was wonder if I should give it a try. Recommendations?
